couple_cruisers Posted September 19, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2012 I am new to RCL and I am wondering about smoking. I am not a smoker and do not enjoy the smell of smoke. I have heard that there is a side of the ship that the staterooms are smoke free, which side? I would really hate to book stateroom only to find it to smell of smoke. We are also thinking of booking a balcony, should I be concerned about smoking coming in from other balconies. We are thinking about the Allure in May. Thanks in advance
uksimonusa Posted September 20, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 20, 2012 Smoking is not allowed in any stateroom, although it is allowed on all ocean facing balconies, the interior balconies over Central Park and Broadway are non smoking
Langley Cruisers Posted September 20, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2012 We are also thinking of booking a balcony, should I be concerned about smoking coming in from other balconies. Since smoking is permitted on all ocean balconies, you have no way of knowing or controlling anyone who sails near you who may be a smoker. You may wish to choose a cabin as far forward as possible, to help curb the possibility of smoke as it drifts backward while the ship is moving. I understand what you are saying, though - we are non-smokers too and choose to sail on RCI because of their excellent product. For now, smoking is permitted in certain areas and we respect this. . Thanks in advance As the other 2 posters have stated there is no smoking in the cabins, smoking is only allowed on ocean facing balconies. The smoking allowed on one side of the ship you mentioned refers to outside areas of the ship. In outdoor areas one side of the ship smoking is allowed and what side of the ship it is allowed depends on the ship you are on.

We've rarely had problems on balcony's with smokers; we'll leave the balcony if smoking neighbors are there and go out when they aren't out. turned in a smoker on the boardwalk balcony once. security was up there toot sweet knocking on his door with I believe a warning. stay away from the casino; that is the worse on ALL ships; although when we were on the Allure and Oasis they did actually have a smoke free time one night on each. I am another that has not had an issue with smokers on the balcony and we do use it quite a bit. Of course it is the luck of the draw and there have been many posts on here related to this topic. As for the casino on Oasis and Allure there are two sides, one smoking and one non smoking.
couple_cruisers Posted September 20, 2012 Author #8 Share Posted September 20, 2012 Thank-you everyone for their input. I will happily move if someone is smoking near-by like everyone says it is their vacation too and since it is allowed by RCL I wont complain. As for the casinos I don't gamble so I am not worried about the smoke in there :)

CRUZBUDS Posted September 20, 2012 #12 Share Posted September 20, 2012 Celbrity isn't totally non-smoking, but close enough for us. There isn't any smoking allowed indoors anywhere, including the casino. We'd love to go on RCI again, but not until they stop balcony smoking. It's just a matter of time. :)

poncho1973 Posted September 20, 2012 #18 Share Posted September 20, 2012 If you want to be 100% sure, do what the other posters said and book an interior balcony room. If you book an ocean balcony, you are at the mercy of your neighbors. We went on the Disney Dream last month and our neighbors on both sides were chain smokers. One or the other was out there every morning and every night. They must have both had early dining because before dinner was basically our only shot at a smoke free deck. That is a sadly inconvenient time. The last night I decided to tough it out and I made it about 30 mins before my nose was so clogged that I couldn't breathe. Other times you will have both neighbors be non-smokers and have a perfect time! Don't believe a word anyone says about the smoke floating away while the ship is moving. The smoke swirls right back to you. It doesn't magically disappear. Drive down the road with all the windows open and spit out the window... see if the person in the backseat doesn't punch you. Asma Posted September 20, 2012 #19 Share Posted September 20, 2012 Honestly I don't understand the balcony issue. To be fair though, I'm a smoker. However my wife is not, and shoreside, I do not smoke around here. However on cruises, we could be two feet apart and she would never notice. The ships moving, the wind is blowing, the smoke always seemed to vanish rapidly. I do understand that some are overly sensitive to it. And before the rest of you jump on with your RAWR RAWR RAWR, I'm that kind smoker who asked you if you mind before I light up. gerif Posted September 20, 2012 #20 Share Posted September 20, 2012 are you a smoker? tell the truth, no fibbbering Nope, never have been. Lost a lot of friends to it though and DH (former smoker) has emphysema which will kill him one day.

Go-Go-Gadget Phone using Tapatalk No arguments here - just statement of fact based on my experience. You can - I have in the past - smell the smoke on the balconies even as the ship is moving if they are close enough to you. (And not just next door). Maybe as a non-smoker I am more sensitive to it, but I have noticed it. And maybe as you are a smoker - even under the circumstances you describe - your wife is more immune to it. But I also agree that policy is policy and so be it. But for the OP, this has not been frequent - or an issue in our choice of RCI for cruising. In fact I've only noticed it a couple of times. I don't think you should be overly concerned about it. Oasis / Allure are outstanding ships and would be a great choice and a terrific cruise experience - and the situation I noted regarding smelling cigarette smoke did not occur on either of our Oasis cruises. Enjoy!
Debde Posted September 20, 2012 #22 Share Posted September 20, 2012 OP specifically stated s/he wants to book Allure or Oasis. And that's why I said what I said. if smoke was the thing to get them to come back on CC and say 'the cruise was ruined' I just wanted to point out smoking was allowed and something to think about! After reading the next post by the OP-they do not seem at all that way. :)

poncho1973 Posted September 20, 2012 #24 Share Posted September 20, 2012 The ships moving, the wind is blowing, the smoke always seemed to vanish rapidly. That's because it leaves your balcony and blows into your neighbor's. Refer to my spitting out the window of a moving car. You do not possess the lung power to push the smoke far enough away from the ship to keep it from blowing back to the next deck. It also comes under and over the walls. Ciggy smoke isn't magic. When it leaves your lungs or your cig... it doesn't disappear to somewhere in another dimension. Much like farts. You may THINK you were sneaky, the rest of us disagree! highlandlassie Posted September 20, 2012 #25 Share Posted September 20, 2012 I am now classed as an non smoker (will be 3 years in Jan) and there is nothing worse than an ex smoker. I cannot stand the smell of it now. Hubby still smokes, and I make him go outside - so will be lots of arguments in my cabin as we have a balcony
