Welcome back to being "connected"... sorry Judith's not feeling up to par :(

No worries about missing days 9/10/11 - you can just show it to us next week on the way back... We won't know the difference ;)

I expect to be without Satellite Service again in the same areas on the way back.

I have not gotten a satisfactory answer on what the problem is. I was told by a Guest Services Officer that they were without service for 5 days crossing the Atlantic and that the problem is related to the ships position and that we will encounter signal loss again in the same places on the return trip.

I am certainly not an expert on satellite communications but it sounds to me that they have not pre-arranged for service from a satellite they can "hit' with the Ship's antenna.

One satellite could probably cover the entire Caribbean easily.

The problem of signal loss occurs when the satellite is two low (close to the horizon) in the sky .

Maybe someone who reads and this understands satellite communications can explain it.

Hmmm maybe it's so you feel like the "locals" being unconnected? lol

Since so many people are following along here I'm going to ask and hopefully someone will know the answer- do you lose the connection enroute from Hawaii to the mainland?? If so I'm going to have to make sure my Kindle is loaded up for those 5 glorious sea days!

I am going to assume yes since I did read that one of our airlines (Westjet) that has satellite TV loses it about 200 miles off the California coast... :(

My Frustration Meter has peaked again!

I am having no success uploading photos to Photobucket. Not with the Bulk Uploader and not Individually.

I have hundreds of photos waiting to show you and can't!

No problem, maybe when you are stateside, you can do some sort of photo album thingy and we all can go in and look at them then. Your daily commentary is good enough for me and takes a lot of pressure off of you to have to download photos for all of us to see. Most of us can visualize what you are talking about anyways if we have cruised before.

I am really surprised to hear they lost the internet during a TA crossing. We have been on a number of crossings and do not recall that happening.

You do lose satellite TV in the middle of the Atlantic, but not internet. I believe they use different satellites , and I thought the ones that handled internet were used for ship communication also.

Your experience matches what we saw last year on the Voyager TA. We lost TV for several days mid-ocean, but I was able to use the internet every day.

Glad to see you are back among us Jim! Hoping Judith is feeling better. Nothing worse than not feeling well while on vacation. Hope she is back to her self in no time!

Hi deshomespun

Just wanted to say I am your neighbor, live in Vienna, just north west of you, visit your little town often via 616 to Campbell.

Safe travels.

Trainman, I love your posts, but are you eating all the chocolate donuts. Chocolate donuts are my favorite thing on board. If they are all gone by the time I get to the WJ I am upset. Those chocolate donuts are so good. I think I was drooping on the screen. So love the Trainman food porn photos.:o

I am uploading "selected" photos for posting on CC, maybe one of every ten I take.

When I get home I will upload the rest to my Photobucket account and post up the direct link.

That will probably start on November 3rd.

We are still a long way and time from home...

Rumor of the Moment...

ERNightNurse is sitting with me and she got an email cancelling her tour tomorrow in Cabo San Lucas because the port has been closed.

The Captain just announced that we are going into Cabo on schedule at 7 am tomorrow.

He said there will be some swells tonight and that Ladies should not wear high heals tonight.

Photos from /Saturday in Guatemala...

It was really interesting to see the natives weaving on the Textile Villiage Tourand admire their work. Judith said it was too expensive so we didn't buy anything.

The young girl had a cell phone hidden in her lab and when none of us touristas were watching she was texting instead of weaving.

I got to watch a woman making tortillas and even made one of my own. They had cheese and black beans to put on them and I made one of my own.
