Rare babs135 Posted January 1, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2013 Just wondering what the best upgrade (no upsell) anyone has received. For example, has anyone been upgraded from an inside to a balcony or from a balcony to a suite?

Krazy Kruizers Posted January 1, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 1, 2013 We got an upgrade years and years ago on Princess -- from a mini-suite to a full suite.
Putterdude Posted January 1, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 1, 2013 Because we need an accessible cabin our best upgrade with Princess was from a balcony to a Caribe deck balcony.
Nebr.cruiser Posted January 1, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 1, 2013 We got a free upgrade from a balcony to a mini-suite on Carnival once. Our TA called within hours of our booking to ask if we'd accept the upgrade. Um, yes!
Roxymax Posted January 1, 2013 #8 Share Posted January 1, 2013 Just wondering what the best upgrade (no upsell) anyone has received. For example, has anyone been upgraded from an inside to a balcony or from a balcony to a suite? Best was from an outside to a suite on Carnival about 15 years ago. But we were in a large group booking (40 cabins plus) so I think I was given the upgrade that the TA would normally get if they sailed with the large group. Just my thoughts....... cruising grandma Posted January 1, 2013 #9 Share Posted January 1, 2013 Our last cruise(December 8-16) on RCI Independence of the Seas, we received a wonderful upgrade from an oceanview cabin on deck 2 to a D1 aft corner balcony cabin on deck 10. We were thrilled, especially since the 3 night cruise before that we had the cabin just below the D1 cabin on deck 9 and loved it. It wasn't available for the b2b and the 8 nt cruise was much more expensive so we went for the lower category room for the 8 night, only to be upgraded. Thank you Royal Caribbean!!! This was my 59th cruise(not all on RCI), and the only other upgrade we ever had was on Princess from an inside cabin to an oceanview. This was about a month after 9/11 and we felt it was because so many people cancelled flights and cruises, especially to/from NYC where our cruise was. Happy ks Posted January 1, 2013 #12 Share Posted January 1, 2013 On the old American Hawaiian Independence, we booked an OV quad cabin, specifically for the location. Our TA called and asked if we would move, the ship had a group that wanted to be booked next to each other. We declined. Fast forward a month and my TA called and told us we had been bumped out of our cabin, the cruise line didn't understand our "no". So, not only did they upgrade us to a cabin twice the size, they gave us $400 onboard credit and a bottle of wine, with apologies. The really good part was that once onboard, we went to "our" cabin that was given up...the whole cabin area had smokers in those cabins, the hallways just reeked. Quadruple win on our part :)
DanJ Posted January 1, 2013 #13 Share Posted January 1, 2013 We went from a 4A guarantee to 6E on Carnival Victory. Could have gone to balcony if we had asked, but wasn't aware the option was available until after we unpacked (not sure why they didn't just put us in a balcony to begin with). This was on the first post 9-11 cruise and the ship was 75% empty.
mickym Posted January 1, 2013 #14 Share Posted January 1, 2013 We were given a free upgrade on RCI from an ocean view on deck two to a Jr. Suite on deck 8.
Kartgv Posted January 1, 2013 #15 Share Posted January 1, 2013 In 2005 we booked an aft balcony on the Carnival Pride for a Mexico trip. About 2 months prior to sail date, we got a phone call from Carnival asking if they could move us to a Jr. Suite; a family group wanted to book the entire row of adjacent aft cabins, so we got 'bumped up'! Lovely cabin, but hated the ship and have not gone on Carnival since. Two years later, 2007, booked a "Best Available" balcony cabin on the Sapphire Princess for a 17 day Australia/New Zealand cruise. We got our cabin assignment a few weeks prior to sailing, it was fine, got our luggage tags, etc. When we checked in at the Sydney pier, we were told our assigned room had been changed. For some unknown reason, we were placed in a huge full suite, complete with separate shower and whirlpool tub, 2 TV's, - just beautiful! Someone else's luggage was sitting outside the door when we got there, but our name was on the nameplate for the cabin. Apparently whoever booked that cabin was upgraded to something even bigger (perhaps with a grand piano?). We never did find out why they picked us and quickly learned not to mention our good fortune to anyone on board, as some were quite upset that we had gotten the upgrade when they had many more cruises with Princess than we had. No upgrades since, though for the last 2 cruises, we've requested 'no upgrades' as we've learned to choose our cabin location very carefully and really don't want to be moved. jocap Posted January 1, 2013 #16 Share Posted January 1, 2013 No, but we were once downgraded....from a balcony cabin behind the bridge, to a similar one on a lower deck. The OBC we were given for moving was enough to provide us with wine each night of the 17 day cruise, and also pay for 3 expensive excursions including one in Venice.....and there was a cheque in the post when we returned home! I'll go for a downgrade any day! :D We noticed the captain's wife and children near our original cabin, and discovered that the captain was seeing them for the first time since returning from the previous cruise, round the world. Shmoo here Posted January 1, 2013 #17 Share Posted January 1, 2013 Just wondering what the best upgrade (no upsell) anyone has received. For example, has anyone been upgraded from an inside to a balcony or from a balcony to a suite? We were upgraded on our first HAL cruise from a deck 4 oceanview (partially obstructed) to a deck 6 verandah. :)

sjcruiser Posted January 2, 2013 #21 Share Posted January 2, 2013 This past summer on Carnival Miracle we upgraded from an IS, to IS w/french doors for free, then upgrade from that to balconies for $20.00-$30.00 per cabin. We had 5 cabins, and all were booked with either a PG , Senior or Residency rate. This is the first time that the upgrade was that low per cabin, usually it's double that amount. Either way the price, rooms, and locations couldnt be beat.

CruiseScrooge Posted January 3, 2013 #24 Share Posted January 3, 2013 not really a upgrade but i got a 7 night solo epic studio cabin for $350 when ncl mistakenly had the code for 3rd person in cabin as the solo passenger code.
Skywench Posted January 3, 2013 #25 Share Posted January 3, 2013 I've only been called about an upgrade once. I didn't take it. I always book certain cabins/locations and the location of the suite didn't compare to the aft wraparound balcony cabin!
