Premium Alcohol Package Math

Recommended Posts

Well, the drink package is game on.

Going fleet wide little by little.

According to some on this thread, drunks will be everywhere.

According to you-you don't like to be around them.

Where will you all vacation now since Royal is becoming a drunk fest???:p

It might not be for a year or so but RCCL will eventually stop the unlimted drink package for legal reasons. Someone will have far too much to drink and do something very stupid or criminal. Then the lawywers will get into the act and sue RCCL. After a few legal settlements, RCCL will find it really doesn't make them any money.

So drink up while you can but please stay away from me or you will find yourself talking to RCCL Security.

Who gives a s&%t, he is not driving the ship is he? He is on HIS vacation and can do or drink whatever he wants. That is the problem with this world, everyione is worried about waht everyone else is doing. I think it is great that he enjoys himself and does what he wants. It is VACATION!! And if he is on EOS the week of 02/16 I will belly up to the bar with him and have a few!!

A past post, not so long go, said that a guy was in fact cut off from drinking. He was told he was not to drink any more for the rest of the cruise because he passed out in a public area. Apparently this guy tried to order drinks the next day and Royal escorted him off the ship in the next port. That’s a very expensive drinking binge. Just trying to give a heads up.

I thought on one of the endless threads about this there was a limit as to the number of drinks you can order in one day?

Here's a copy of the E-mail from RCCL:

Royal Caribbean

Ships: By early 2013, all ships with seven-night or longer itineraries will offer the all-inclusive packages. At press time, only 13 ships were participating in the program: Legend of the Seas, Grandeur of the Seas, Splendour of the Seas, Independence of the Seas, Vision of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas, Navigator of the Seas, Mariner of the Seas, Brilliance of the Seas, Adventure of the Seas and Explorer of the Seas.

Package Details: Royal Caribbean has two alcohol-inclusive beverage packages on offer. The Classic Beverage Package costs $45 per passenger, per day, and features beer (priced $6.25 or less), house wines by the glass, all nonalcoholic cocktails, soda and juices. The Premium Beverage Package, at $55 per person, per day, includes all of the above plus all beers (no price limit), frozen drinks and cocktails made with premium brand alcohol. Bottled water and minibar items are not included in either package. Prices are inclusive of service charges.

Fine Print: The drinks packages are available on all seven-night or longer sailings (sorry, Majesty of the Seas) and can only be purchased on the first day of the cruise. If one adult in a cabin purchases the package, all adults over 21 years old in that cabin must purchase the package as well. Package users may only order one item at a time for individual consumption. There is no daily limit on how many items a person may order.

Oh geez..This will cause problems I bet. My DH and I have a few but not enough for the price of the package. With this package I think people will be drinking just to be sure they are getting their money's worth.

Yep, without a doubt people will try to get theor "money's worth" from the package.

Ya because all-inclusive resorts have ceased to exist due to liability concerns.

Your logic is flawed and seems to be wishful thinking from someone who is against the drink packages.

The logic isn't flawed... AIs are not located nor are they moving through open water...

2 words: George Smith :)

The package, IMO, is but a step towards an entirely new pricing structure for cruises... I'm picturing something very similar to WDW... And that is a good thing...

I am discouraged that everyone over 21 in the cabin has to purchase the package but I get why... For us it doesn't work... DH doesn't drink at all...

It will be interesting to read "cut off" stories and complaints here over the next few months...

I'm stocking up on popcorn now cause I figure March and April should be prime time for: I paid for the drink package and got cut off stories...

Tell me again how many AI's are located on US soil or within the reach of US lawyers?

Think a minute before you post and you will figure out that the logic is on-target.

Whether you have a drink package or not, there will always be people who don't drink responsibly and get drunk making a nuisance of themselves annoying the people around them. Everyone seems to think people will drink to oblivion if they purchase the drink package.

My husband and I did purchase the alcohol package. Our intent was not to over drink to get as much out of the money as possible. We probably ended up breaking even because when we're on vacation have mimosas in in the morning, drinks by the pool in the afternoon, wine or other cocktails during dinner and after depending on the show or party we are attending -- 7-8 drinks within a 12 hour period (noon to MN or so) on vacation is not unreasonable for us. We enjoyed the idea of not having to pay and sign each time we ordered a drink and didn't drink any more than we usually do during a cruise. If we were Diamond or diamond +, we would not purchase the package.

There were drunks at sea and on land before the drink package. People have hurt themselves and jumped off ships and done criminal acts for years now. I don't anticipate that this will increase or decrease. At least Celebrity has shown it hasn't.

I should not be judged by how many drinks I have a day while I'm on vacation. The drink package certainly doesn't determine my alcohol intake.

With this attitude, I hope you don't cruise with me.

Some people just don't get it, you can do as you wish as long as it doesn't affect others. Sadly, the behavior of many drunks affects the rest of us.

These are the right we won after the Revolution. :p

I think the package is well worth it, I agree with what others have said about how easy it would be to get to the 5 - 6 drinks a day.

there are drunks on any cruise with or with out this package, as at the local bar.

Speciality coffee? Really are they that great?? I like to have baileys in my coffee at times - I will just order a coffee and a shot of baileys. I really don't get what the big deal is.

I plan on buying this in April - the only down side is that you can't order a bucket of beer.

Well the playoffs are on - I better get a beer and practice for the 5 - 6 per day :D

Thank you for the first hand experience.

To those that are concerned about people overindulging, I don't really think you have to worry. If they were going to overindulge they would whether they had the package or not. If they aren't used to that many drinks each day after a day or so their bodies will be rebelling and they will slow down.

We are looking at the Allure Western route (only 2 real port days) and considering the package. Will we get our "monies worth", probably not, but there are other advantages to having the package such as being able to try other drinks, not having to worry about signing for each drink, and knowing up front what the cost will be.

Someone did a poll a month or so ago. The largest group interested in getting the package, over 50 not the early 20s! Wondering if they have other reasons that just getting wasted????

ETA, I had assumed people looking for the specialty coffees were looking for the lattes, cappuccinos, etc, not the coffees with the liquors in them. We don't drink that type of specialty coffee so no issues for us there, although if the bottled water was added it would make it an easy decision for us.

akcruz - Sounds a lot like us. I'm back and forth everyday on what to do. We are 30, and although we are not huge drinkers, the package is appealing to us. Not to have to worry how much we're spending, and trying a variety of drinks. That being said, will we still get our money's worth with 2 port days where we plan to be off the ship? Not sure. So I'm torn - pay it and not have to worry, yet will I worry that we're not spending enough to make it worthwhile? If we don't get it, kick myself and think about everytime I get a drink.. haha! Still on the fence. One minute, I'm convinced to get it, the next minute, I say nay. I enjoy hearing other people's opinions! Thanks :)

Well, obviously, from some posters here, Royal attracts the drunken boozers!! Now add a drink package and wow, it's going to be lawsuits galore!!! It's such a shame that those people that run the company have no clue of what they are doing!!!:p

So-between a drink package and people shoving all they can drink in the time frame of loyalty happy hours-it's going to be hell everyone.:D

.............:flee:
