That is why it is offered and not included. We are not big drinkers and only get to cruise every one to two years, so it is a very special occasion to us. However, when we do go on vacation we like to relax with a few adult beverages. We were on the Noordam Jan. 28 to Feb. 8 and purchased the package. On sea days, by the pool, a couple of Blood Mary's or Screwdrivers by the pool is not over indulging. A couple of cocktails in the afternoon can be nice. A wine with dinner and a cordial after dinner, a cocktail in the show lounge bar. It adds up. I enjoy a diet Coke now and then, and for shore days, we would stop by a bar to get a couple of bottles of water to take on shore with us. We traveled with another couple who also purchased the package, no one got sloppy, but we did have a good time. It relieved the pressure for us as to how much our bar bill was going to me, we knew up front. It is $39.95 per day plus 15% gratuity. Would we purchase the package again? It would depend on the cruise and who we might be travelling with. To each his own.

This is a perfect example of how this package will work for some folks. It doesn't necessarily mean that any purchasers of this package have a raging alcohol problem, they just like to relax on their vacation in a way they see fit, and as this poster said, no one "got sloppy". I agree with this poster also that the charges for beverages, no matter what kind they are, add up in a hurry. The package price does not seem outrageous to me, and it is a good fit for some cruisers.

Good comments Linda. Could you also get one glass of wine..or two with this package? Is this offer on Eurodam? Thank you

Don't know much about this other than what details other posters have described (more details are in earlier comments on this thread). It is a new thing that just got introduced recently. Don't know if it is on all ships/sailings at this point. Maybe more details will be forthcoming.

I just checked the our upcoming cruise as well as a cruise we have booked for 2014 and the Beverage Cards are still available. Of course there is no discount.

I should have been more specific -- the beverage cards are no longer listed under "Packages for Grand World Voyage", under the "Packages" tab. That is where I got them at the $225.00 discounted price in January and, as of last night, they were no longer there. Yes, the beverage cards are available for $250 for a $250 card.

agreed, however this is where the problem comes in - if you have a long cruise which is port intensive, it would be difficult to make it work on your port days. I can see it for the right people for a Caribbean - anyways, as long as people are happy, that's the main thing:D

Yes, you can order the house wine and since I am a casual wine drinker, this worked fine for me. A second glass of wine is not a problem, either. I don't know if this is available on the Eurodam, from what I understand, it is a trial program available on the Nieuw Amsterdam and the Noordam.

Point well taken.....on some port intensive itineraries it may not be cost effective depending on how much you drink and when you drink it!

It also really depends on what selection there was for the under $7. I was on the Westerdam in January and if I recall most fancy bar drinks were 6.95, my beloved Prosecco was $6.50...not sure about wine. Does anyone know the current beer prices?

At $40/day, you get your money's worth at 5 drinks at $7 a drink...so lets say at 6. DH can easily drink 6 beers a day on vacay...but I'd be hard pressed to drink that, especially f I have wine in my cabin.

And...if those drink prices go up then selection will be an issue.

I don't know, let me think about my typical day on a cruise ship...

A couple of bloody marys at the seaview bar right after the morning walk and breakfast, $14. A bucket of beer for lunch and afternoon time wasting, $28. A drink while watching the sunset, $7. A couple martinis before dinner, $14. A glass of wine with dinner, $7. A couple scotchs on the rocks while playing black jack at the casino, $14.

Lets see, that adds up to $63, so I'm saving money. Maybe I have a drinking problem? But hey, I drink very little normally, a daily glass of red wine and maybe an occaisional drink of scotch if out with friends, so on a cruise, I tend to get a little crazy. :D However, this is spread out over 16 hours or more, so I can honestly say I have never been "drunk" on a cruise ship.

As we also like Celebrity our last cruise was a 14 day on the Eclipse. I purchased the Premium liquor package. Don't know if I got all my monies worth, but, did find it very convenient and a little extra liquor was usually poured. I also did not notice any more "Partiers" than usual. Actually, since Celebrity seems to be a little younger crowd than HAL, I was expecting to see more, but, I didn't. I believe the price point is the main issue here, and I did like the idea of paying ahead for the package as I could budget the trip more accurately. I applaud HAL for giving this a try as this seems to be the trend of other cruise line.

How does one go about purchasing an unlimited beverage package on HAL? Is this something that is pre-sold online? Is it on all ships? I would be very interested in this for my upcoming cruise. Even though I already purchased a $250 beverage card.

Take heart, you don't have any kind of problem.....you are just enjoying yourself on your vacation!!! It's perfectly fine in my book!! Happy Sailing!

I just called HAL ship services about this one - because I do not want to be "pirating" booze and carting pop/wine onbord if we can get an unlimited drink package. After checking with the supervisor I was told "This option is available to certain GROUPS as a group amenity. It is not an option for individual cruisers" Darn it.... Oh well....

Really??

I wonder of the HAL rep even knows about the recently instated drink package on a couple of ships?

From what Retired Mustang stated -- you have to buy it onboard the ship from one of the var staff within the first 2 days of the cruise.

So far I have only heard about it being on the Noordam and maybe the Nieuw Amsterdam.

We just got off the Norrdam Feb. 8, the package is being done on a trial basis on the Noordam and Nieuw Amsterdam. If you are cruising on either one of these vessels, just contact any of the bar staff to purchase the package. It costs 39.95 per day per person plus 15% gratuity and has to be purchased for each person 21 and over in a cabin. We purchased the package at the Sea View Bar on the Noordam

We are cruising the N. Amsterdam on March 24th (yeah!! just 1 month to go!!) I have never cruised before - so is this typical that they offer items that the main HAL ships services would not know about? My husband and I are not huge drinkers but as several posters have already stated, think the beverage all inclusive will just be easier and make the overall cruise more enjoyable to not have to think about every drink we order. On the flip side if we can not get it then I at least want to take some pop and wine with us - if it is available then I won't sweat trying to cab over to total wine in FLL.

Another beverage question I had, I have seen several posts about $1 second beverages when and where is this offered? and what are typical drink prices? I like mimosas, Bloody marys, pina colada's and wine, my husband likes makers and ginger and wine.
