fishycomics Posted April 12, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2013 Ever gone to a Hotel, and floor 12 was card access only for those who wanted more a personal feel? no regular guests allowed.. Imagine a part of the ship was like that part of the floor and only access was like that. Wondering what you would think. I wonder if Celebrity has something like this on their ships good bad and ugly...... Oh I wonder where the lounge section is at to?
cle-guy Posted April 12, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2013 Reflection has signature suites and reflection suite in a separately keyed area on ship. Norweigian has the Haven area. Aqua class is somewhat like that with blu access and spa access, but still not total private floor.

YOW Posted April 12, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 12, 2013 During the Cold War I once stayed in a Moscow hotel that had a floor you couldn't access. And there was no TripAdvisor where you could complain about the bugs in your room. ;)
eadien7 Posted April 12, 2013 #5 Share Posted April 12, 2013 I've stayed on the Executive floor in a few Hilton Hotels. No big deal. The main thing is usually a lounge with free food and often an open bar.

The main thing is usually a lounge with free food and often an open bar. Same thing at some of the casinos in AC and Vegas. We also have one at our time share in Disney, but no food, its actually a private area you can use for parties but also to view the various fireworks. I wonder if Celebrity has something like this on their ships good bad and ugly...... Oh I wonder where the lounge section is at to? Its called first class. They tried it once before...and it died the death it should of in the 1960's. If you want a ship like that its better to have the whole ship like that...not dividing up sections. You just pay more for the cruise. In fact on the Titanic those in that section were so understanding that they kept the doors to the other sections closed so they could have first chop at the life boats....... Merriem Posted April 12, 2013 #8 Share Posted April 12, 2013 We always stay on the executive floors if a hotel has one. You pay more, but the perks are worth it. It would be hard to do that on a ship unless like the reflection which has the signature suites, I am all for it. Peace and privacy.
spookwife Posted April 12, 2013 #9 Share Posted April 12, 2013 Disney's Concierge Cabins are set up that way, gated access to the section of cabins. some appreciate it as limiting the amount of noise/ ding dong ditching and sorry to those that think it's snooty, but I certainly would pay extra to have a more private experience.. a separate pool and jacuzzi, even a separate dining room, etc. I dislike crowds, even well behaved ones. I'd rather go once a year in Top Tier accommodations and experience than 4 or 5 times a year in the bare basics for the same price.
Phxazzcruisers Posted April 12, 2013 #10 Share Posted April 12, 2013 We are Hilton Diamond members and always get the Executive floor. Nice, great lounge, especially in Europe. As previous poster said, the latest Celebrity ship Reflection has a "private" area for their Reflection suite and signature suites that are only accessible with a special key...... cruisegirl1 Posted April 12, 2013 #11 Share Posted April 12, 2013 RCCL has a bank of suites on the Oasis and Allure than require card access for the hallways. The few amenities in the common area on that floor are available for everyone use. M

fishycomics Posted April 12, 2013 Author #13 Share Posted April 12, 2013 thank you for the insight........ It is not hard to section a portion of a ship off, and not asking like how they shown it in the Movies, "the titanic" with locked gates. Yes Able to go to your private Buffet, Diner, and would not say show, because that will cost to much and die fast. thank you for the info provided :) good or bad. all works out at the end

Each person has different likes when it comes to hotels, cabins, cars, etc. we like suites and club floors. That has nothing to do with a class system. It is budget and preference. Our first cruise 40 years ago was an inside cabin so small that only one person could stand up at a time. After raising a family we prefer the suites on ships, executive floor in fine hotels. It is all about choices. We were in a suite last June on the Century, and frankly did not like the noise of people running by. You pay more because you want certain things. I think all new ships should have keyed entries in high end cabins just like you have a concierge or a butler. Oh, we fly business class now also. aquaclass Posted April 12, 2013 #15 Share Posted April 12, 2013 I think Celebrity has many examples of “special access” ….. and its fine. 1. Aqua Class guests pay for special access to Blu, the Persian Garden, Relaxation Room, etc 2. You can only dine in specialty restaurants if you pay a bit extra and you will need your card to enter. 3. For those who have paid for multiple cruises on Celebrity, they have a special card and the opportunity to attend special events in private rooms with free drinks, etc

fishycomics Posted April 12, 2013 Author #17 Share Posted April 12, 2013 Sorry I did not see your point to start, and I also said not aqu class capt'ns ..... I was around 40 years ago, and My memory serve me no floors like that Lol Maybe bouncers to stop you. Electronics was not, more like punch cards around. hmm makes me think about credit cards back then to? I hear ya

We stay quite often on the "executive floor" while staying on the Holiday Inns. This is all because DH is a platinum elete member of their priority club. In saying this, the only benefit on this floor, is a free snack room and there is usually no kids running in the halls. I'm not sure how they would do this on a cruise ship i.e. restricting an entire deck to certain cruisers.
camarodrivenrs Posted April 12, 2013 #19 Share Posted April 12, 2013 I believe MSC has something like this on their new ships. I think its called the yacht club or something. They portion off a fair amount of the ship for the people who book that tier.
jcrandle Posted April 13, 2013 #20 Share Posted April 13, 2013 The 13th floor on many ships and building can be hard to find, if you are on and elevator. I suppose it is VERY private:D.
nursebob Posted April 22, 2013 #21 Share Posted April 22, 2013 We sailed on NCL and were in the Haven, key acess only, it is the only way to go. It was quite and the service was excellant. I do wish Celebrity would do the same for the Penthouse and Royal suite passengers. NCL has a private pool hot tube and dining area for the Haven. Rare skittl1321 Posted April 22, 2013 #22 Share Posted April 22, 2013 Why not just book on Azmara or another high end line? Keep the riff-raff out entirely? I don't care for 'class' systems.
macruisefan Posted April 22, 2013 #23 Share Posted April 22, 2013 I think it's a great idea! I wish there was an "executive floor" on some of the large ships. I enjoy the pool area, casinos and bars of the larger ships, so Azamara, Silversea and Seabourne aren't for me. But I do like having a somewhat private enclave. If comparable to an executive level of a land based resort, it means no kids (or at least better behaved)! Also, I like the quieter, perhaps somewhat more dignified experience of the private lounge, especially to start or end the day.

The thing is they got rid of a class system for a reason. It was not profitable. If they started closing off too big a part of the ship you might actually see a line lose just as much business as it gained. A lounge if fine, I can understand a club lounge would work as would a barrier on the hallway ( which means you would need to group the high end cabins together maybe losing better cabin locations in the process such as hump cabins or stern ones).
