shootingstar07 Posted October 3, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 3, 2013 Does anyone know if Princess has a luncheon or cocktail party for MTP on their get-a-way cruises? Or did that go the way if the formal dinner? Thanks for input. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
cnd crsr Posted October 3, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 3, 2013 The captain decides on whether it will be a luncheon or cocktail party. Most often we have had luncheons on the cruises we have taken. IMHO the luncheon is much nicer but we have enjoyed several cocktail parties as well. Whatever it is I am sure you will like it.
Astro Flyer Posted October 3, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 3, 2013 Our 3 times invited to MTP events were in Alaska & all were cocktail parties.
DougH Posted October 3, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 3, 2013 If you mean on the new shorter than 7 day cruises I doubt they would have one. Normally it is the Captains choice on lunch or party, and does depend on the route. On my recent Grand Mexico cruise it was party (I missed, cutoff was 450 days) on the Island Alaska in May both on a B2B were parties, In Feb on Pacific it was a luncheon
Sitmar Lady Posted October 3, 2013 #5 Share Posted October 3, 2013 I'd be interested in knowing if they have them on the 3 & 4 day cruises as well. Wow 450 days was the cut off???? Yikes, that number is getting higher and higher these days.

Yikes, that number is getting higher and higher these days. In the current sailing of the Royal, the top 3 have over 1200 days!! I will need 9 lives to get to that!! caber Posted October 4, 2013 #8 Share Posted October 4, 2013 Back in 2007 we were invited to the MIP cocktail party and have been to a couple of lunches but recently we don`t even get near the cut off, :( and we have cruised ever year since on Princess. faymuiheng Posted October 4, 2013 #9 Share Posted October 4, 2013 Never been to one. Can someone let us in on the secret? What's it like, and is it worth going to?
Aus Traveller Posted October 4, 2013 #10 Share Posted October 4, 2013 On the South American cruise on the Grand, the cut-off was around 770 nights for an invite to the lunch.
windsor26 Posted October 4, 2013 #11 Share Posted October 4, 2013 Never been to one. Can someone let us in on the secret? What's it like, and is it worth going to? It is splendid. We actually got to one lunch on a Fiji cruise - most surprised as we only had 180 at that time. We were the second the last couple on the list., You sit at tables with a member of staff and the menu is very high end. Our starter was lobster which was presented with other sea food as a 'face' beautifully crafted. The main for me was filet minion and there was a fish alternative. The sweets I cannot remember except that they were beautiful. There is wine or other drinks of your choice and the Captain sits at the table with the top three couples. We enjoyed the company of the Future cruise consultant and the tour director. I am sure I will not get on another one as the totals are amazing these days.:(

Much more refined and professional than the lunch that I normally have on a work day here in New York for sure. Princess as always does a good job!:) We will probably not be selected again with so many cruisers collecting many more days every year. I am certainly glad that we have other interests because more than a couple of weeks of cruising per year are about my max.;)
partybarbie Posted October 4, 2013 #13 Share Posted October 4, 2013 One nice perk is that you get a free picture of you and the Captain. Considering what Princess charges for photos, that alone is a reason to go.;)
shootingstar07 Posted October 4, 2013 Author #14 Share Posted October 4, 2013 I am going to keep my fingers crossed that they have something ( and I make that list) on a getaway cruise. I made the cocktail party on a 7 day AK cruise. It was very nice. Doubt if I will ever get invited on a long cruise - unless I live to 100 and spend the last 10 years in a cabin on a Princess ship!! Now that would beat a nursing home!! Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
yyjguy Posted October 4, 2013 #15 Share Posted October 4, 2013 I prefer to cocktail receptions, as that way to you move about and talk with those passengers and officers that are of interest to yourself. This much better than being stuck a table and hear nothing except conversations about grand kids and medical treatments! Officers from the entertainment, medical, shops, casinos would bore me, but those from the engineering and navigation departments would be nice, but you have no choice. If it is luncheon, I pass and let someone else attend!
caber Posted October 4, 2013 #16 Share Posted October 4, 2013 The last time we got to go to the lunch we were at a table with the Chief Engineer. He was most entertaining. :D
Griller Posted October 4, 2013 #17 Share Posted October 4, 2013 The last time we got to go to the lunch we were at a table with the Chief Engineer. He was most entertaining. :D The last 4 MTP lunches we attended we had the Chief Engineer - Iranian and not talkative, was worried about his engines and left early, Passenger Services Director, NZ and good company Human Resources Manager, informative and talkative Cruise Director, best of the lot, stayed until the end and had a good time. That was on the Diamond Princess last month. Yes, 4 in one month, every 7 days. We had the Captain Roger Bilton twice but it was foggy on the other two occasions so we had the Staff Captain as Roger stayed on the bridge. Roger is pretty good at entertaining, nice guy. SueFrankuk Posted October 5, 2013 #18 Share Posted October 5, 2013 We went to the MTP lunch on the Royal Princess in August, there were only 82 elites on board and the MTP had only just over 400 days!, the only other time we were invited was in the South Pacific. Shogun Posted October 5, 2013 #19 Share Posted October 5, 2013 Hi There We have only been to one, and only got in because so many people cancelled we were called about an hour before the meal, it was very nice. Once we did a cc lunch for about 70, it was held at the same time as the most travelled in the same dining room, it was very funny seeing the mt folks better dressed looking at us happy much as the doors open they went to the left we went to the right. yours Shogun

turbo46032 Posted October 6, 2013 #21 Share Posted October 6, 2013 One nice perk is that you get a free picture of you and the Captain. I had to pry my wife and my daughter from the very charming Captain (Star, Alaska) last year .The crew photographer was not very charmed when I pulled my Nikon and took pictures myself... We've been on 3 Princess cruises and were invited to two MTP's, the Alaska one with unreal cut-off point of years plural... 1,000+ days. Do the math, the number of week-long cruises was impossible. 5fathom Posted October 6, 2013 #23 Share Posted October 6, 2013 We were invited once as a high Platinum on a Canada New England cruise. Now our 200 days gets us nothing. They did say however the days should be good on an Alaska cruise.
pris993 Posted October 6, 2013 #24 Share Posted October 6, 2013 We have 22 Princess cruises, not sure how many days, we have not keep count of days, something like 200 or so. We got invited only once, on the Ruby on a 7 day Carribean cruise a year or so ago. Was very nice held in Sabatini's. Would love to go again. Just got off the Grand, did not get invited, learned the most travelled passengers had 1000+ days... interesting since this cruise was a 7 day California Coastal. By the way, Princess still does formal nights, we enjoy them, even if many others don't choose to dress formally. Mention this since the OP's question suggested the "most travelled event" may have been done away with like formal nights. Formal nights may have been done away with on some lines but not Princess. Those must have been Around the World Cruises? Got a feeling that they are confusing the Luncheon with the Captain's Circle Cocktail party. They would not have been invited on their first cruise, but would have been on the next two. ...certainly totally different events:D
