Don't recall seeing them on the Blu menu. They do serve a wonderful soft shell crab in Blu.
Rare ghstudio Posted October 15, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 15, 2013 Given the cost, there is about zero chance of seeing them on your ship. Perhaps they will be served with mote marine caviar :)
miched Posted October 15, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 15, 2013 Have they in the past? Don't recall seeing them on the Blu menu. They do serve a wonderful soft shell crab in Blu. The first time in Blu I had them and they were very good. The next time they were over done, the breading was burnt to a crisp, and they were dried out because of that. The next time they must have been deep fried in oil that wasn't hot enough and they were very greasy. The breading was sopping in grease and the crab was soggy. Again it all depends. Still keep ordering them, as I am not forced to eat it if it isn't any good. .

Stone crabs are in the range of $35 a pound and that includes the weight of the thick shells. They are wonderful, but enjoy them when you get to florida.... jackdiamond Posted October 16, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted October 16, 2013 I just viewed a report on our local news here in SWFL; and apparently the first day's harvest here was very efficacious. I may pick up some on our return tomorrow from Lt. Columbo's beach on Sanibel Island.

2morecruises Posted October 16, 2013 #13 Share Posted October 16, 2013 Yea finding them on any ship would be less than nill, however I will be dining at Joe's Stone Crabs on South Beach tomorrow night. This is their Centennial Year. :D Mouth is already watering figuring I'll order a plate of "Selects" (extra mustard sauce please), hash brown potatoes, creamed spinach and a slice of key lime pie. A good Chardonnay helps too! Thank the heavens for October 15th. 2MC

still-learning Posted October 16, 2013 #16 Share Posted October 16, 2013 Love that place even though it's almost impossible to get in. We go at lunch, same menu items available, getting in was no problem... Joe's is our favorite pre-cruise meal tradition! :)

bighairtexan Posted October 16, 2013 #18 Share Posted October 16, 2013 NOT stone crabs I'm referring to, but I have to agree w/ miched. First time I had the app in BLU several years ago it was perhaps the best thing I had in Blu the entire cruise. 2 weeks ago it was so overly battered and soggy. ICK. Even the specilty restaurants will never have them IMHO You must be buying stone crabs in the wrong place! Here's an article in today's Miami Herald explain that Joe's Stone Crab is paying only $7 a pound for the claws: http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/10/15/3691657/crabbers-to-joes-stone-crab-restaurant.html

wf083145 Posted October 17, 2013 #21 Share Posted October 17, 2013 We've never seen stone crabs on any ship. We will be in Miami in March and will be going to Joe's if at all possible. We used to have a tradition of going to Monty's at the South Beach Marina for stone crabs and huge lobster tails. On our last visit we found out that Monty's had closed the restaurant and had become an icky marina dive.

We're The Groupnors Posted October 17, 2013 #24 Share Posted October 17, 2013 Do they serve King Crab Legs in the MDR? I've never seen crab legs in the MDR as an entree on Celebrity, but have on other lines. They do have some crab appetizers, depending on the night. Despegue Posted October 17, 2013 #25 Share Posted October 17, 2013 Princess used to do a Seafood Buffet on Embarkation night in their Horizon Buffet ( casual dining ), and that featured crab legs among others, but alas, this has been eliminated some years ago...
