Last Minute Summit Questions

Leaving in a few days...some last minute questions:

1. Where can I find fresh squeezed juices throughout the day? Is it available every breakfast?

2. Where can I purchase non alcoholic smoothies? Thinking about the kids...

3. When I go to the casino - if I want to take cash out can I charge it against the credit card without it being considered a cash advance?

4. What's the $5 crepe place called? Is it open all day?

5. Which place has free desserts to take away...and sandwiches?

6. Can I put a daily spending limit on the kids cards?

I think that's it for now...let me know if you think I missed something!

Remembered 1 more - ice cream. Where and when? My son is already planning on 7-9 cones for his trip. Sprinkles available??

The only fresh squeezed juice is orange and you can get that in the MDR, for a charge.

Smoothies are available in the buffet, at the bar area. Again, there is a charge.

No, you cannot use your credit card to get cash from the casino. They only accept your sign and sail card and travelers checks.

Bistro on 5 is the crepe restaurant. It's open all day and for part of the evening.

The desserts and sandwiches can be found at the buffet and at Cafe al Bacchio.

If you open your kid's account with cash, rather than a credit card, you can put any amount on their account and tell the kids once they spend that, no more money.

Ice cream is located in the buffet. They have hard pack and soft serve ice cream.

Fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, and I believe also orange juice, are available for breakfast in the buffet for $2.50 a glass. Enter on the port side, by the glass elevators, and it's right there. I don't know what the bars have. The main diniing room also has fresh squeezed joice available at breakfast.

Enjoy your cruise.

Just to add, the gelato which is better icecream is available at the Ice Cream parlor across from Cafe Baccio. Their is a charge for this ice cream- unlike the ice cream serviced at the buffet. It is much better and worth the splurge

Enjoy your cruise.

You can put your SeaPass card in the Casino machines, but that would be dangerous for me, lol. I'd never be able to quit before going broke. I just use Travelers Checks for extra cash and bring a limited amount, forcing me to quit before it's too late, lol.

I usually don't win a lot, but in Jan. '08 on a Mercury cruise to Aust/NZ I won $500 on a nickel machine and last Feb. on Summit to the S. Carib. I won $278 on a nickel machine the first night. I decided to celebrate by getting a massage later in the cruise. I had talked myself out of it, not wanting to spend the extra $$, but there it was! Love those nickel machines. There weren't many left on my last cruise because most of them had been replaced by penny machines.

I'm interested to see what is in the Silhouette casino in Jan.

If you want to get the kids OJ and smoothies you might want to look into the NA bev pack for them.

The fresh OJ and etc are available almost all day from the bar in the buffet. There are also smoothies at the Aqua Spa Cafe.

If you are in a CC cabin or higher I think you can get smoothies and OJ from the room service menu at no charge.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I have been debating a package for the kids but might just stick with paying...

so there is a bar inside the buffet area?

A bar inside the buffet? No, but if you walk all the way aft and go

outside, there are tables, chairs, umbrellas and you will see a bar

out there:).....one of my favorite places on SUMMIT:)

Thanks for clarifying that - I thought I was having a serious memory problem, having sailed on the Summit 2x in the last 18 months and having absolutely no recollection of a bar in the buffet. It is the Sunset Bar, which is not in the buffet but is located outdoors on the aft of the ship. We did spend lots of time out there, and it is my favorite place on the Summit as well.

Actually on our September Summit cruise they had a "make-shift" bar on the port side of the buffet (as soon as you walk in - it sometimes houses ice cream). It was set up to sell wine, waters, sodas, beer, etc.

That's exactly what I meant when I said bar. On our Summit cruise, they turned the ice cream area on the once side of the buffet into a sort of "bar" where you could get soft drinks, bottled water, smoothies and wine.

Let me explain a little further about taking money from the Casino which may be what you are looking for. As others have said, you can't take money off your credit card in the Casino. What you can do however is take money out at 5% on your sign and sail card. When you do this, it goes onto your on board account. At the end of the cruise, everything is sent into your credit card company by Celebrity as one purchase. If you have an affinity card where you get miles, etc, you will get miles credited for the money taken out at the casino. You also will not have this go on your bill as a cash advance but a purchase.

Thanks again for the clarifications. So maybe a bar in the buffet, we will see. And Celebrity charges me 5% to put money on my onboard account that i can then use in the casino...oh wait, I can take cash out from the sign n sail card so I have cash and that will just be charged a normal charge at the end of the cruise on my credit card.

Have they always charged that 5%? Its been a long time since we sailed but I dont remember that...

No they did not charge anything at one time. Then it was 3% now it's 5%. They are trying to limit the practice of people cashing in their non-refundable OBC and taking it home with them, which many people did in the past.

The charge was started about 3 or 4 years ago, it used to be that they did not charge. People caught on to this very quickly and were using the money for non-casino reasons such as tips (prior to auto tip), large purchases off the ship, excursions, etc. There were many threads on this and it became pretty much common knowledge that you would be charged at the end as one purchase and pick up incentives on your credit card. Since the amount I believe at the time was up to $2500 per day, you could make out pretty well as long as you didn't go into the casino with their low win percentages.

Leaving on the Summit in two weeks. A few last minute questions. Do you still get a "beach bag" in your cabin? Saves bringing one if you do. How are the hair dryers? Can I bring my own and a curling iron or straightener?

Yes they give you a thin open beach bag. A better zippered one in the suites and I think perhaps CC and Aqua class. They may give it to you the second or third day. The hair dryers do not have much power. So you should consider bringing your own. I bring a curling iron with me and plug it in by the desk vanity.

So even though the Summit was solticized they didn't put a bar in the area?

On the Solstice ships we often get beverages from the guysinthe buffet.

We were last on an M ship in 2004 so I don't remember much.

Hi:)....well, from what a few other folks posted, they said there

is "sort of a bar"......but I was on Summit in August and don't

recall seeing it. (Maybe I just never noticed it:eek:)

But, if you are talking about the bars that the S class ships have?

Those are portside, inside the buffet....you can actually sit at

that bar....., no, that bar is not on the M class ships.

There is one bag per stateroom, which is a problem now that I travel with friends, instead of late DH. But I have so many at home, that I give myfriend the one in the room.

I have short, easy-care hair and have no problem with the hair dryer. The new ones I've used on the rehabbed M-Class ships have had more power then the old ones.

We leave next weekend and have a few questions.

1. When do you put on your baggage tags? TA says put them on at the pier, Celebrity says put them on before you leave home.

2. Does anyone know anything about the Buffalo Airport? Never flown out of here. We have an early (5:30 am) flight and was told can't even get into the airport until 4:30. Doesn't seem right to me but .....

3.What floor of the Summit do you board/disembark on?

Thanks.
