Alcohol again

If my wife has a medical note saying she should only have 1 or 2 drinks a day, can I get the package and she buy a glass or wine or 2 at dinner?

Or does she have to have a note saying no alcohol? If she note saying none, will that be on her card and prevent her from buying a drink?

Funny. i always wondered about that.. I cruise in May and I dont plan on having any children. But what would happen if my DW was pregeant and I wanted the package.. ??? if she cant drink, does that mean i could get the package and not her... and for the record I would never get the package cause I would never get my money out of it..

I would love to know the answer to this question. My wife is also on medication that only allows one drink per day, but I do enjoy the drinks. In the past, we have been getting the package, but it would save us money if I could just buy it for me and pay for her drink at dinner.

If you buy the package on the ship, you don't have to justify or buy for all in the cabin.

Just purchase the one package on board for yourself and enjoy the cruise!

I was under the impression that on RCCL every adult in the cabin also had to purchase the package. Is this new, or the sutuation if you buy it on board?

From the RCCL web-site...

Fine Print: The drinks packages are available on all four-night or longer sailings (sorry, Majesty of the Seas weekend sailings) and can only be purchased on the first or second day of the cruise. If one adult in a cabin purchases the package, all adults over 21 years old in that cabin must purchase an all-inclusive package as well. Package users may only order one item at a time for individual consumption. There is no daily limit on how many items a person may order.

Are you sure of this? Because that isn't what it says on the Royal Caribbean website. This would be great. I likely won't ever buy it because I don't drink enough, and have D+ Happy Hour privileges. But this would sure be great if I didn't. My wife would never drink enough to come close to breaking even (not sure I would either).

It does also say "medically unable to consume alcohol," so for the OP I suspect that you'd need a Dr. note with total restriction, not just "a few drinks a day."

If someone tries either the note or buying onboard, I'd be interested in the results.

Is this from direct experience? I would think you do have to justify any exception or this would be widespread. The program guidelines state all over 21 in the stateroom have to purchase the package. But there have also been reports of exceptions to this being made on board - but I don't believe that is policy, but more of on board discretion by whomever is selling it. This may be tied to verified medicinal exceptions.

Several people have posted that if you wait and buy the package on the ship, they will allow just one adult to purchase. I haven't had any personal experience doing that but the rumor is out there.......

If that was the case then why would anyone pre-purchase the package? Everyone would simply buy it on board for one person and the other(s) in the stateroom would share, and RCI would lose out on at least half of their revenue with the program. RCI would certainly know this is happening and would likely step in to enforce their policy. (I'm sure they track the beverages issued to each passenger).

"Several" may be the case and is certainly not many. As mentioned before, there have been reports of this happening but it may be linked to valid reasons. I am certain RCI would put a stop to it before it became widespread.

As you say, the rumor is out there....

Like I said I got the package for myself, and I DID NOT share. I paid for my wife's drinks as we went

Didn't mean to imply that all who did this would share. Just meant that the temptation to do so would be something RCI would certainly not endorse. The fact that you did not share is probably a reason they sold it to you in that manner. But it is contrary to their stated policy, so it is confusing.

I'd expect this is a "glitch" & will be corrected soon.

But hey! It's worth a try, I'd say.........

I NEVER get my money's worth but the hubs more than does.......

On the Allure, I bought the package onboard while my wife was getting some lunch. I was under the impression that we both had to buy it, but they only charged me for mine and did not ask any questions about anyone else in the cabin. She bought hers 15 minutes later. If I had thought about it, I would've just paid for her drinks as we went.

I don't think if a spouse or fellow cruiser in a cabin would need to declare anything.. Not everyone drinks. Some are even alcoholics...

A single purchase of the drink package is allowed. Not a rumor... Is no different than the soda package... You can purchase on the ship and not everyone in the cabin must have it.

I don't drink soda.. Hubby will purchase the soda package.. I drink alcohol, but hubby doesn't .. We will purchase separate packages on the ship.

I think it varies from ship to ship and even from different areas on the same ship. Recently on the Radiance both my son and I tried to get the package for just one person in the cabin(DIL drinks very little and I am a non drinker). The first time we tried to purchase it we were told all people in the cabins had to purchase it. So we went to a different area of the ship where he was able to get it for just himself and I was able to get it for just my wife.

You can only get one drink at a time with the package. You also have to sign, so I think they can keep track of when and where you bought the drink and maybe even what time. So sharing a package may not be as easy as you think.

PS I wont get it again, drank way to much.

We never had any problem getting more than one drink at a time with our package back in April. We had a great waitress in the Casino & our drink waitress at dinner took good care of us. She even gave us our after dinner drinks in the little loving cups (not supposed to with the drink package). Then at the end of the cruise, she made sure we all (three couples) had one of every color, so we all had a complete set. :D
