quiksilver23 Posted December 7, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 7, 2013 I remember a couple years back I was on a Carnival cruise and someone complained there was no alarm clock in their room. Or if you are travelling with family and meeting for breakfast? Although I would meet for lunch instead!
cruzeluver Posted December 7, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 7, 2013 (edited) A few years ago we were on a ship with a "gentleman" who complained about anything and everything. The one that about killed me was his complaint that the ship was too small. Yeah, because the size of the ship is a carefully guarded secret. Edited December 7, 2013 by cruzeluver spelling
sail7seas Posted December 7, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 7, 2013 We have heard complaints the ship is too cold, it is too hot, the food is too spicy, it is too bland, the Captain chats too much, the Captain doesn't speak enough..... you get the picture. There are always people who will complain for the sake of complaining. :D  And you don't have to be on a ship to meet 'em. :)
Gunner22aa Posted December 7, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 7, 2013 Was sailing on the Golden Princess to Hawaii and overheard a lady say she was going to demand her money back because this trip was nothing like she read about in the Cunard brochure. dolittle Posted December 8, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 8, 2013 On a Med cruise a table mate of ours (midwesterner) would say everynight that he did not trust these ''character's'' over here . He was also glad that the ship was not full of those ''characters'' from Europe. We were crazy for going out alone in europe we should only do excursions with the ship.It took everything in me not to remind him that the good old U.S.A.leads the world in ''characters''. JimAOk1945 Posted December 8, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 8, 2013 Here are a few copied from an online newspaper article on Huffington Post -- A husband on a two-week honeymoon cruise complained that the staff did not decorate the cabin in white, did not scatter rose petals everywhere each morning, and did not deliver champagne and strawberries via a private butler. The man requested no special service; he just expected cruise employees to "know." -- A couple claimed the captain was "rude" because he did not wait two hours for them at a port, even though they had left him a note earlier that they had "too much to do." -- A young woman had heard that British singer Gary Barlow once took the same cruise, so she demanded to know why he wasn't on the same cruise again. -- A man on a cruise around Alaska requested compensation for the warmer clothes he had to buy after failing to "get an impressive tan" and being unable to "swim in the swimming pool each day." --A couple said the service was so excellent on a cruise that they spent a lot more on tips than they expected, and wanted their gratuities to be refunded. A few others forwarded to HuffPost that didn't make the list are still pretty funny: -- A first-time cruise passenger blamed the captain for not warning him that he could get seasick, and asked for a schedule of cruises in which he wouldn't get seasick. -- A pair expressed disappointment that their ship didn't look like the Titanic, and that its dissimilarity to the doomed ship should have been made clear. Cruisin' Chick Posted December 8, 2013 #8 Share Posted December 8, 2013 After returning from a Hawaiian cruise, I was in the midst of writing my review when I noticed one of my roll callers (who I never ended up meeting as she didn't come to any of the meet n' greets) posted her own opinion of the cruise. One major complaint was that the rinds were kept on the pineapple wedges. On the next cruise (another Hawaiian one), I didn't make it to a meet n' greet, but somebody who did told me that somebody decided to complain about the lack of strawberries. We had a laugh over that as there was plenty of other fresh fruit. Before our last cruise (another Hawaiian one -- we love those Princess Hawaiian cruises:)), I was checking out the recent reviews on this site's front page of the Golden Princess, while waiting for our cruise. Somebody complained about the entertainment, especially about all the Hawaiian music. This person seems to be in the minority as many who have done this cruise on Princess, especially those doing the same one several times -- even more than us -- usually mention hearing Elua perform as a major highlight of the cruise. sherilyn70 Posted December 8, 2013 #12 Share Posted December 8, 2013 I remember a couple years back I was on a Carnival cruise and someone complained there was no alarm clock in their room. But there was a phone with wakeup call service. Personally why would you need one? your on vacation. I want a clock in the room so that I know what time it is when I wake up in the middle of the night. My body tends to wake me up at 5am, my husband however is not very agreeable to that. So easily being able to see what time it is tells me if I should be extra quiet and sneak out or it's time to try and get back to sleep. We had problems with the wakeup call service on my first cruise. They were having problems and didn't even bother to tell us... it would call us hours late or never at all sometimes. When we were in port we had to buy a travel alarm clock for that reason and I have never trusted wakeup calls since and use my own alarm.

polySeraph Posted December 8, 2013 #14 Share Posted December 8, 2013 At one of our NCL Meet & Greets we heard a woman complain to the Hotel Director that NCL wasn't like Royal Caribbean. ("On Royal Caribbean they do it this way. . . ." "You should do it this way too", etc.) She looked around at everyone else for validation and seemed surprised (and annoyed) that we weren't agreeing with her. BlueRiband Posted December 8, 2013 #15 Share Posted December 8, 2013 (edited) On an 11-day Caribbean out of New York we had a complainer who used every public venue to express his dissatisfaction. His No. 1 complaint? Nobody told him there would be three sea days between New York and St. Thomas, V.I. Yes, it was Cunard's fault that he didn't read the itinerary before he signed on. Happy ks Posted December 8, 2013 #19 Share Posted December 8, 2013 Probably the weirdest complaint I've read here on CC over the years was a man stating his toast, upon delivery to the table, was not hot enough to melt butter. I always would envision a waiter leaping over tables trying to get his toast to him while still piping hot. Another complaint I heard was a woman, first cruise, who complained there wasn't luggage pick up with a bellman's escort off the ship upon disembarkation. Can you even imagine how long it would take to do this with every stateroom :roll eyes: Her comparison was that 5 star hotels on land would do so. She stated she would never cruise again because of that happening. Buh Bye ;) The rudest was a woman on our roll call, I recognized her as she had her CC name painted on her carry bag. She was insisting on meeting one of the officers at the Pursers Desk, since she'd met them on a prior cruise. Why she couldn't just leave a message, I don't know, instead she was berating the poor clerk and calling her names. I witnessed her abusive behavior to other staff throughout the cruise. Suffice to say, I did not attend any M & G because I didn't want to be associated or recognized by her. Pity that the weird or rude ones stand out to us, there are so many more very delightful people to meet onboard cruise ships. The vast majority are happy and thrilled to be on vacation. luddite Posted December 8, 2013 #20 Share Posted December 8, 2013 We sat through a breakfast within earshot of an elderly couple from Lawn Guyland as they complained constantly about some problem with their breakfast. At dinner that evening we passed them on the way to our table and....... they were STILL complaining about their problem with breakfast. Some people would complain if they were hanged with a brand-new rope.
reedl Posted December 8, 2013 #21 Share Posted December 8, 2013 On the bus from the New Orleans airport to the Mississippi Queen (a paddlewheel steamer) a lady in front of us spots a Carnival ship docked and asked, "Is that our ship!" I can handle this one, as it is not a complaint, but instead first time cruiser ignorance. When she figured out it was not the ship she was going on, I am sure she was embarrassed. reedl Posted December 8, 2013 #22 Share Posted December 8, 2013 I was on the Mariner back in 2004 in a GS. We had access to the CL, and had a great time (even though nobody drank, we enjoyed the serene quiet area, and chatting with the CL Agent). Anyways there was this couple who was in an inside room, but this was the 19th or something like that cruise so they had access to the CL. The complained every day about something on the cruise. The food was not as good. The ships were not as good a quality, the ports were worse, etc. etc. etc. I finally asked them the fourth day if they did not like cruising so much, why did they still cruise? That shut them up for the rest of the cruise.
lannp Posted December 8, 2013 #23 Share Posted December 8, 2013 Several years ago on a shore excursion in Norway, during a scenic stop overlooking the harbour, a woman pointed to the QM2 and said I wonder what ship that is. Ahhh, that's our ship. Aboard the Diamond Princess from LA to Hawaii. The first couple of days out of LA were quite rough and about day 3-4 a woman complained all through lunch about how rough it had been and she was too ill to come to dinner and she had brought all her formal dresses to wear. Finally I asked her where her cabin was located - you guessed it - the highest passenger deck which you should never ever book if you are worried about motion and I tried to calmly point out you are in the middle of the ocean and you never know what to expect. As we left the table a woman whispered in my ear that she kept quiet because she couldn't think of any polite replies.

kcwingwalker Posted December 8, 2013 #25 Share Posted December 8, 2013 I once was seated near an older lady who complained to the waiter that the grits were improperly prepared and proceeded in great detail how they should be cooked. The waiter was extremely patient and pleasant. On the same cruise a young mother stood up in the MDR and said loudly "the food on this ship sucks" and left the MDR with her toddler............really great parenting!
