Has anyone tried to cash travelers checks on Royal Caribbean? I am going on the Jewel and have read post that said the ATM's are sometimes not working. I called Royal Caribbean and they said they do cash them but the website said only in casino which makes me think there is a charge. Any info? I don't want to carry all my funds in cash for security reasons.

You can cash them in the casino or at guest services, there is no charge....K.O.

So, to sum up:

If you actually have travelers checks - they are very very very hard to find these days - you can certainly cash them without charge at the Guest Services Desk. I have no experience with the casino and travelers checks.

You can cash ONE personal check per voyage up to a maximum of $200, at Guest Services.

Curious is that per person or per cabin?

I have no idea! I have only done this myself. My guess would be per person, but it's just a guess. (or at least, per account. If you each have separate bank accounts, in other words, it could be per person. But not if you have a joint account. :o)

I was thinking the same thing. OP-where do you find your traveler's checks? I looked for some for a trip a few years back and gave up!!

Things may be different up here in Canada but they are readily available at our banks. The ones I get through my bank are AMEX travellers cheques.

We used them on the Brilliance last summer. Guest services cashed them without any fee. I think there was a $300 limit or some such per day. I had a hard time finding them as our bank and local AAA doesn't carry them anymore. They want people to buy a prepaid Visa card. I found out that those cards don't have a three digit code on the back of the card and guest services had a real hard time getting it thru one of their machines some was glad I didn't buy one of those cards. I ended up joining a local credit union for a minimum amount to open an account. They have traveler checks and for "senior" customers they waive the fee.

While in port however we have come upon stores that won't accept travelers checks.

I should hope so. I HATE that stores accept any sort of check. It's such an archaic kind of transaction, and so slow. Nothing drives me nuts more than standing in line at the store and then waiting for the person in front of me to write a check. I swear if I owned a retail establishment, there is no way I would take checks- personal or travelers.

Banks and some stand-alone offices. http://www.aetclocator.com/wheretobuy/travelerscheques/ will find outlets near-ish any address.

Dag. There are three banks near me that still have them. Not mine, of course. Mine is just the largest bank (or one of them) in the country. Why would THEY have anything that would be of us to consumers?

Now I wonder what their fees are for non-customers..........

Patience is a virtue. So is tolerance.

Readily available here in the UK too.

A lot of banks have switched from traveler's checks to prepaid credit cards. The last time I tried to get checks, they told me they had phased them out in favor of the cards. So now I get cards.
Although I have a prepaid USD Visa card which I use in stores and restaurants when visiting the US, due to RCI conditions, I take some cheques to reduce the balance of our on board account.

As stated in RCI feedback

'We do not currently accept pre-paid credit cards for onboard payment'
