homeinboca Posted May 9, 2014 #576 Share Posted May 9, 2014 (edited) When the Royal started its sailings last year, bookings were near 100% months in advance. Based on an E-mail from Princess today, the Regal is not commanding the same amount of interest and bookings. It's always like that for the second kid. First kid gets all the attention, second gets the hand me downs. We have booked the Regal in Jan 15 and judging by the availability, it looks like less than 50 cabins are booked. I'm sure prices will drop for that too, although they have only dropped now for early Dec 14. Edited May 9, 2014 by homeinboca

Based on an E-mail from Princess today, the Regal is not commanding the same amount of interest and bookings. Hi - I've been thinking the same thing. I know it is still six months away, but very few midship mini-suites have been booked for the Nov. 9th sailing. And we've had two price drops in the last week. Maybe once the Regal starts actually sailing the bookings will pick up. This excerpt from a recently posted CC listing of 8 Best Cruise Ships for Sea Days doesn't bode well. It does look like the article was originally posted in Aug. 2013, but it's still not a ringing endorsement. Royal Princess is the line's newest ship, in a class of its own. It has an enlarged Piazza and Movies Under the Stars, updated kids' club, a television studio, new and improved dining venues, and the SeaWalk, a glass walkway that hangs off the side of the ship. (Small balconies and less-than-enthusiastic passenger reviews keep us from nominating it as Princess' best for sea days at this time.) Happy sailing to all. IECalCruiser Posted May 9, 2014 #580 Share Posted May 9, 2014 (edited) Princess is currently running a "Save Up To 40%" sale on Regal Cruises. What does that actually mean? We are booked on the 09/11 Grand Med cruise. The current sale price is $100 more than the launch pricing. That is also true of the 06/19 and 07/01 sailings and those two cruises are past final payment date by 23 to 35 days. The best pricing is on the 08/06 sailing which has been discounted just over 23%. For the ten Grand Med cruises, the average discount for the lowest priced balcony is about 8.5%. Checked the other three cruise that were on the original schedule and the 06/02 cruise is $100 below launch pricing while the 06/09 cruise is $250 above launch pricing. Interestingly, the 17 day combined cruise is $450 below launch pricing. Overall, not a lot of price erosion from launch pricing and four sailings are charging a premium. PhillyCruiser Posted May 10, 2014 #588 Share Posted May 10, 2014 From "Il piccolo" newspaper: The premier Matteo Renzi will be in Monfalcone on Sunday to attend the ceremony of the "Regal Princess". Just as the last cruise ship built by Fincantieri on behalf of Princess Cruises had a "godmother," this one will therefore have a "godfather". The Italian Prime Minister in fact follows in the footsteps of Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, the godmother of the twin "Royal Princess," who last year baptized that ship at the Ocean Terminal in Southampton. The movements of the head of the government are still top-secret. His plane is expected to land at the airport of Ronchi dei Legionari around 9:30 A.M. The beginning of the ceremony is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. at Panzano. The Prime Minister will be accompanied by the Deputy Minister for Economic Development, Claudio De Vincenti. The CEO of Fincantieri, Giuseppe Bono, with the "front line" management, and the heads of Princess Cruises will welcome Renzi. 330 meters long, the "Regal Princess" has a gross tonnage of 141 thousand tons and can accommodate 3,600 passengers. After an initial season of Mediterranean cruises, which will begin in the coming weeks, in autumn, the new ship will continue its activities in the waters of the Caribbean. ---Professoressa Joan

need2cruisesoon Posted May 10, 2014 #592 Share Posted May 10, 2014 This is an article about Roberto Bruzzone, he is the designer for all the Carnival Cruise Lines ship designs. This is the same guy who over saw the design and development of the Royal Class ships. Be prepared for more mega sized ships with small balconies, no mid ship stair case and an absence of a promenade deck for upcoming builds. It keeps getting better and better. Be prepared for more mega sized ships with small balconies, no mid ship stair case and an absence of a promenade deck for upcoming builds. It keeps getting better and better. I seriously doubt if he gets to set the budget for new builds which would come from much higher up the chain of command. Last year on the Royal a top engineer for CCL ship development said that Micky Arison sets a price he'll pay & won't change it. It was posted on the Princess forum that during a behind-the-scenes Ultimate Ship's Tour an engineer said that by not finishing the stairways for passenger use above deck 7 it saved $3 million. If this is true I think it was a very poor decision but it probably was made at the top levels of CCL. The stairways are there and possibly were not finished for passenger use to keep within Arison's budget & possibly also affected other changes during construction. It'll be interesting to see what the future brings & whether some of the things some passengers miss will be added in the future. However I think that it's very doubtful if Roberto Bruzzone is the one who makes the final decision. Edited May 11, 2014 by Astro Flyer

dmwnc1959 Posted May 11, 2014 Author #599 Share Posted May 11, 2014 I was monitoring several Twitter feeds when I found the Live link above, and clicked on to it about a minute before they did the Changing of the Flag ceremony. Regal Princess is now officially part of the fleet. Speakers included Jan Swartz of Princess Cruises and the Prime Minister of Italy. The Regal Princess dancers performed a couple of songs from one of the production shows, and then everyone in the Princess Theater headed for the Concerto and Symphony MDR's for lunch. Hopefully there will be some video and pictures later from Princess Cruises. :D
