Hey me too! We don't have pennies in Canada anymore - smallest coin is a nickel :)

I'll see your Nickle and raise a Nickle that RCCL goes the way of Celebrity "No Smoking" in the Casino.

This was my thought exactly. I agree that eliminating smoking from balconies and clubs will make it worse-case in point-the casino is the new smoking club. Having a non-smoking section is utterly ridiculous in such a small space. Smokers will continue to take it over, and I doubt rccl will eliminate smoking in the casino.

You can't please everyone. But I think the cruise lines will find they are alienating a lot of paying customers (smokers). My DH smokes...am I happy about it, no...but I still think that smokers are being ostracized more and more and I find it very unfair.

My advice to those who don't like cigarette smoke-live and let live. Most smokers are very courteous, my DH included. But if you are walking through a smoking section, don't complain about the smoke. Smoke drifts and it can't be avoided.

Again, I think the new policy is a bad idea and I believe it will be changed.

That's my 2 cents. And yes, I am a non-smoker.

I agree. I think they left the casino smoking because they know that smokers will spend more time there since it is the only indoor place and spend more money on booze and gambling. The problem is the die hard anti smokers aren't happy and they want the ship 100% non smoking so no reduction of space will make them happy. They just want to complain. You see it here all the time where someone asks a question about smoking areas and the same people always have to reply that smoking is terrible (like those that smoke don't know) and then proceed to complain that smoking is allowed anywhere.

Fwiw I am a non/ never smoked person.

That is one time, not several as the other post implies, out of how many ships that have been sailing for how long? Odds are more likely that a fire originate from somewhere else.

I bet there insurance rates were going to go thru the roof and by making no smoking on the balconies they reduced it - the higher insurance would get passed along in higher cruise fares.

We had a balcony on our transpacific cruise with smokers both sides of us, for 30 days we couldn't use it so no longer book balconies - when Princess stopped smoking on balconies we were used to oceanview and book that now - saving lots of $$.

We have a balcony booked on Oasis, our first since 2007.

Yup, I fail to see even a glimmer of logic there either.

I normally I don't spell things out for people but here goes: Why-would-you-feel-like-a-second-class-citizen-because-you-can't-do-something- that-no-one-else-is-allowed-to-do???

My DH likes a cigar where can he enjoy that with maybe a nice drink?

Just an observation from this side of the pond but if you refer to someone as a DH it has a whole new meaning. Let me explain, the D is a shortened version of Richard and the H is the upper section of a person (the round bit with the eyes in it). It puts a whole new slant on your feeling about him smoking. Our prime minister over here got himself into a whole lot of trouble because he thought LOL at the end of a text from a lady friend meant lots of love. Hope this makes you smile it's not meant to be offensive, but it only takes a few more key pressess to write a word, and it's not as if we are limited to text.:D

There have been a number of reports like that - the casino turning into essentially a smoking lounge with quite a few smokers not gambling, just smoking.

I'm willing to bet if that continues - smokers using it as a smoking lounge without gambling, and therefore non-smokers who WOULD gamble being driven away - that you'll soon see that policy changed. RCI won't be pleased with the loss of revenue in the casinos.

I agree with you.. someone's job is to compare the casinos revenues before and after the policy change. :( They also know how much $$$$ Celebrity's smoke free casinos make...:)

Because-the-non-smokers-have-not-had-something-that-was-once-taken-for-granted-summarily-taken-away.

I know that's a fine line but judging by this thread some people are still feeling the sting.

If a smoker pays the same fare as a non-smoker and is made to feel like a second-class citizen, then yes... it is.

I'm all for limiting smoking in indoor areas...fair compromise for all involved. But outdoors on balconies? If you're standing on your balcony, you're inhaling way more dangerous stuff from the smoke belching out of the stacks on the ship than you ever could from a cigarette.

The new rules strike me as kind of unfair.

When was the last time you cruised? Smoke belching out of the stacks on your ship is very minimal (unless your on carnival) :D and on your balcony a non issue unless you happen to have an aft balcony. Bad information with no facts to base this on is a problem on many posts....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

There have been a number of fires on cruise ships, and many of them have been traced back to discarded cigarettes

The Star Princess fire was quoted as "probably started by a Cigarette", it prompted the cruise industry to change the material used on the balcony and the furniture on it.

Other than that incident, no other cruise fire has been deemed as started by a cigarette.

No smoking on the balconies of any of the staterooms?

Although the policy states no smoking on the balcony, has anyone experienced guest smoking out on the balcony? Just wondered?

Yes, just off a b2b and the second week we had smokers next to us. After a few days I complained to guest relations and it was handled promptly. No more smoking neighbors:)

Please don't tell me you really don't get it. Think about it again. :D

Don't get it - its a weird (for choice of a better word) statement to make

I normally I don't spell things out for people but here goes: Why-would-you-feel-like-a-second-class-citizen-because-you-can't-do-something- that-no-one-else-is-allowed-to-do???

That still doesn't make sense - non smokers don't WANT to smoke on their balcony so why would that affect them?? WHAT???

What happened to the carefree days when people went on vacation to have a relaxed time? Smokers are uptight now as they are being watched and scowled at and non smokers are patrolling looking for someone to scowl at. I don't smoke, but I will not complain when I come across someone who does as it is not illegal and I can avoid if I choose. A lot of other people from

European countries cruise and will find these new rules off putting.

Well I'm not a smoker but I find this silly.

What I think you're saying is that since no one can smoke, no one group should feel singled out, ie second class.

But that's off the mark because the reason they feel second class is because it's their favorite activity has been banned but not others.

For example, if they banned reading on your balcony, if you didn't read you wouldn't care, but if you did like to read you'd feel put out and picked on.

I think that's why no one gets this because in general we understand that when a person is in a group that's affected by a policy that doesn't affect others they feel oppressed.

Of course as a non-smoker I understand and appreciate that it's for the benefit of the majority, but I can see why smokers are disappointed.
