amscene1 Posted September 20, 2015 #4154 Share Posted September 20, 2015 Is the EMS a natural or man made river? And how in the would is it deep enough to support a cruise ship? Do they dredge it?
barnacle_boy Posted September 20, 2015 #4155 Share Posted September 20, 2015 When are the sea trails due to take place ? There will be two sets of sea trials. Escape is scheduled to leave Eemshaven this Thursday. This first set of sea trials, which should last several days, will allow the engineers to calibrate all of the various onboard systems to ensure that they are working properly. Escape will then sail to Bremerhaven before shortly embarking on her second set of sea trials. This second set of sea trials should last about 5-6 days, during which Escape will be put through various tests to evaluate her performance and seaworthiness. Is the EMS a natural or man made river? And how in the would is it deep enough to support a cruise ship? Do they dredge it? It's a natural river, but it is maintained to allow for these conveyances. It is regularly dredged and there are tidal barriers that can artificially keep the river at high tide.

Rare steamboats Posted September 20, 2015 #4160 Share Posted September 20, 2015 Where will crew complete the inside work Will it be completed before its first voyage ? Of course it will be completed before the first voyage on Oct 23rd (pre inaugural). There might be some minor work still to be done. But all venues are supposed to be open by that. They have worked during the conveyance. In Eemshaven they add some missing "outer parts" like some life boats, masts, antennas, rest of the stack... which couldn´t be added earlier due to hight and weight limitations for the conveyance. All interior work will continue during the sea trials and later on in Bremerhaven. steamboats
Golfin55 Posted September 20, 2015 #4161 Share Posted September 20, 2015 Barnacle boy, Why two sets of sea trials. Is it one for NCL and the other for Meyer Wreft to compare before the line takes control? I find this very fascinating. It's really some complex undertaking for all parties involved. I enjoy your posts. You are extremely knowledgeable. Is this a hobby of yours or are you involved in the cruise biz? Please excuse me if I come off too nosy. barnacle_boy Posted September 21, 2015 #4162 Share Posted September 21, 2015 Barnacle boy, Why two sets of sea trials. Is it one for NCL and the other for Meyer Wreft to compare before the line takes control? The first set of sea trials is relatively short. The main purpose is to calibrate the onboard systems and prepare the ship for open sea. The second set of sea trials is much longer. It's during this period that the ship is actually put through her paces and formal tests are conducted. Various inspectors from NCL, DNV, and elsewhere are there to ensure that the ship conforms to contract specifications and classification requirements. Rare steamboats Posted September 21, 2015 #4166 Share Posted September 21, 2015 Golfin55, There´s a pre inaugural cruise for media and TAs out of Hamburg Oct 23rd. Oct 25th there´s a revenue cruise from Hamburg to Southampton (2 nights). It´s not unusual that the ship is handed over at such a late date. Actually it´s normal. The rest of the crew will come aboard in Bremerhaven and there the crew training starts. Provisions and more will be loaded there too. steamboats
barnacle_boy Posted September 21, 2015 #4167 Share Posted September 21, 2015 As I mentioned, Escape's funnel is quite a bit taller than on Breakaway. You can see this and the mast installed . Only a few of the extended pipes have been installed, but this gives a good idea of the funnel's final height.

I saw the mast and satellite domes were stored on the bow for the conveyance. Nice to see the mast where it belongs. The funnel is looking a little more proportionate with the pipes added, but still a weak spot with this design. All the other stuff on deck really eclipses the funnel and makes it look a bit wimpy. Anyway with each passing day ESCAPE is looking more and more complete.
buckeye rob Posted September 21, 2015 #4170 Share Posted September 21, 2015 Bath by the balcony (A): Bed by the balcony (B): Although both were taken with wide-angle lenses, you can use the towels and the drains as reference points for scale. The tub in the B layout is quite a bit longer, although the tub in the A layout is wider at one end. Except for the minority of people who are wider than they are tall, the B layout will be far more comfortable. Okay then, if in configuration A ,bath by balcony, is there still the second toilet and shower by the entrance ? Does anyone have floorplans for configuration "A" bath by the balcony ? Never understand why they don't show all options. Thanks Gerry.
