Ever since they added the Police K-9 teams on the trains, the subway thru CP is much safer.

 

Just be aware of the occasional Stop and Frisk from the police :)

Wife and I born and raised in Neenah, lived most of our adult lives in Menasha, currently live in SW Florida, and have traveled the world.

 

We have traveled on Oasis of The Seas and both feel safer there than any night on College Ave.!

 

Wow, Small world! Yeah, I don't dare walk down College Ave at night!

 

Hubby and I plan to move to Florida at some point in the next few years. I'm sick of the cold winters and he is originally from New York and would prefer to move someplace with a little more going on!

OP, I know that our responses have been quite silly (I must say this has been a fun thread) but I do understand your question since you have yet to experience CP on the ships. The truth is, there are no hidden trees, bushes, etc. As posted earlier, crime can happen anywhere but you will not only feel safe in CP at night (or any other time of day), I think you will find it one of your favorite and most beautiful parts of the ship. It's fine. Wouldn't worry about it at all. The ship is lit more than you realize. And it's probably only 20-30 meters from end to end.

What time of the "night" are you referring to? I, more then likely would not walk alone on the ship at 3:00 am, but Midnight? 1:00 am? There are plenty of people walking around at that time, as well as very visible staff. I would not be overly concerned; just be a little cautious, and use common sense as you would any time of the day. I am frequently found walking around before 6:00 am, alone, as DH needs his beauty sleep. Not to many people are out and about then, but I feel perfectly safe.

Was on Allure a couple of weeks ago. Ken Rush had a top 10 list of dumb questions from his suggestion box. One was has anyone ever been mugged in Central Park. The answer was not in this one.

On the Mariner Around the Horn cruise, I was often posting to my "Live" thread here at those hours. It was very peaceful on the Royal Promenade - and I could use the outlet in the Pub because no one was there. ;)

 

There are always staff out working, cleaning, doing their jobs. Ships are truly 24/7.

The Central Park Police Precinct in the Real CP is the one with the least reported crime in the city. That said I would rather walk through Central Park on Oasis or Allure than the one in Manhattan ANY night.:eek:

I have never felt unsafe on a cruise ship. The ship is always peaceful. I love walking around very early in the morning, before most people wake up. I can imagine you have that same feeling at 3 or 4 am on the Royal Promenade. But, that is my sleep time - in bed about 2:00 am, and some mornings up before six to catch sunrise; but most mornings up, dressed and searching for that first cup of coffee before 7:00 am.

Just stay out of the tunnels and you should be OK. Have the pepper spray close at hand, not burried at the bottom of your purse. Flashlight batteries should be fully charged for the walk across the park. Blow your emergency whistle at the first hint of trouble. When all else fails, ask the nearest waitstaff for another cocktail, and you should be fine.

That is my favorite time of day on a cruise ship. I would be annoyed with myself if I stayed in bed.

I have to agree. I have never felt unsafe on any cruise ship. The internet is a really nosey place. We would hear about rapes and murders if they were common.

 

My thought process is how could it possibly be unsafe in Central Park on Oasis/Allure, with all those inward facing cabin balconies? With the restaurant(s) on the ground level? I don't know, I just NEVER would have thought of such a beautiful area of the ship as possibly dangerous. That's a concern that I've never before heard expressed on CC.

If there are other passengers around and staff, then of course I would be fine since I'm not really alone. When I say alone, I mean really alone. Being cautious and using common sense is the important thing. But there are people that don't do that and fall victim to a nut. I remember the story of the teenage girl that couldn't sleep so she decided to go out on deck to write in her journal and I think it was around 3am. No one was around at all. If memory serves, she was attacked by a crewman.

 

My main point is, everyone should have fun on the ship, but I don't want anyone getting hurt.

I'm not particularly proud of the fact, but I often am one of the last ones out of the casino in the wee hours of the morning, usually around 2 am, sometimes later, and even at that time there are people about. I usually go get a cup a tea, maybe a cookie and go to my cabin. The hallways fairly empty but in the public areas there are always someone about. I would never be afraid to walk around any passenger area of the ship at any time.

I frequented Central Park late at night when hubby was in the cabin with dd. in fact, I recommend it! It is lit with twinkling lights and was very peaceful. It doesn't take long at all to get from one side to the other.

Did you know that Mike Szwajkowski, one of my all-time favorite Royal Caribbean CDs, is now a Royal Canadian Mounted Police(man)?

On our last cruise we had some really bad weather and I was stuck in the cabin for the last 30 hours of the cruise. We finally made it into the channel in MD and the seas calmed down and I was able to actually stand and walk around. It was about 330 in the morning and I went for a stroll having been stuck in bed for a full day.

 

Within about 5 minutes of my wanderings security was shadowing me. I realized what they were doing and struck up a conversation with them right away regarding the stormy weather and why I was wandering around on Deck 2 (and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6, etc) in the middle of the night.

 

Anyway, my point is, the ship is monitored 24X7 and if anything looks even the slightest bit out of place there will be someone there right away to check out the situation, especially in the public areas.
