InTheWASide Posted November 14, 2014 #551 Share Posted November 14, 2014 I saw that. Sorry I meant a separate movie theatre like on the Eurodam Sent from my iPhone using Forums Does not appear so but I've heard talk about something that will address that in an area that the microsite has yet to feature; but you are correct - No "screening room" like on Eurodam/Nieuw Amsterdam or like it was put on Oosterdam/Zuiderdam and the ability to do them in the Queens Lounge on the Noordam/Westerdam does not seem like it will be the case given the new configuration of that space. Oceanwench Posted November 14, 2014 #552 Share Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) I finally got a chance to look at the site, video and deck plans. Those things that "stick out" from the Lido deck by the aft pool really do remind me of Regal Princess's SeaWalk. On that ship one of the walks was located right behind the bar, too. The glass-panel floor is pretty cool but at some points you can look straight down at the balconies below. With the expanded Queens Lounge, it might allow them to use the main theater for the showroom during the day. Honestly, if HAL gets with the program and introduces technology from 2001 they will have an on-demand TV system with movies to watch so a "theater" space is kind of wasted to the moneycrunchers. It can be better used as revenue-sourced venues (more dining, etc.). What I find interesting is the "Lido Marketplace" name for the Lido, and the deli is called NY Deli and moved away from the Lido itself quite a bit. It'll be interesting to see this area evolve over the next year.

Well if the bedside USB ports and the high-def atrium ceiling simulating the outdoors are any indication I think we're going to see some amazing technology. Bet we might even see some in-cabin "smart tv's" A poolside deli option I think would be much more popular and successful than the Slice Pizza they have on a lot of the ships. In fact I didn't even see that option. The fact they are specifically saying "NY Deli" makes me wonder if maybe there's some sort of affiliation that may be announced later. On a new note: Anyone else notice the unlabeled bar up on the sun deck? Wonder what that might end up being (if anything other than just a generic bar). Also, seems like the aft pool is missing something but as I mentioned Slice doesn't seem to be there, maybe it won't be utilized as an individual food space anymore. I was thinking that there might a screen that would drop down in front of the front quadrant of the main theater... otherwise any lectures that use slide projections (and most do) would have to go to the Queen's Lounge, and attendance at many of those lectures on sea days far exceeds the apparent capacity of even an expanded QL. casavaha Posted November 14, 2014 #557 Share Posted November 14, 2014 I left HAL a few years ago because of the terrible music on the ships. Dancing to decent music was impossible. So I went over to Princess. More venues for dancing, better ships. So now I see this new ship and I am wondering if HAL is going to put money into decent bands. If so I will certainly be interested in cruising with HAL again. Greg
PathfinderEss Posted November 14, 2014 #558 Share Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) I really like the colors/decorating for the Neptunes. It's an updated look. I only see 3 drawers which isn't so great. I'm sure there are shelves in the closets but shelves aren't drawers. The mini bar must be under the glass shelving beside the verandah door. I haven't seen a comparison for square footage of Vista/Signature vs this cabin. Is it comparable square footage? Also, it seems whoever posted there is no dressing room as on the other ships is likely right. I can't tell for sure from the diagram. From the diagram I'm not seeing any dressing room either Sails, in the Neptune Suites but yet there seems to be one in the SS cabins. You are absolutely right, the SS cabins look like a nice layout with a dressing room, whereas the Neptune suite seems to have a toilet area separate from the bathtub and sink area, but no dressing room. sppunk Posted November 14, 2014 #560 Share Posted November 14, 2014 I notice that too, and also did you see they have dropped Northen Lights? Anybody see a Sports Bar or Casino Bar? There is a "mix" area between the piano bar and Explorers Lounge, but yeah I don't see any specific sports bar. InTheWASide, I hadn't seen the detail about bedside USB ports. THANK GOD! :)
Laminator Posted November 14, 2014 #561 Share Posted November 14, 2014 I notice that too, and also did you see they have dropped Northen Lights? Anybody see a Sports Bar or Casino Bar? There is a small bar with what appears to be 6 stools in the casino. It is forward on the starboard side.

Not sure I like that. Our SS on the Prinsendam had a separate room for the toilet and one sink. The other sink and tub/shower were in another room. Each room had its own entrance plus there was a connecting door. We really grew to like that setup.

It's nice to see they took something from the Prinsendam that works well:D the rest of the layout is not similar at all, but that layout that is circled has some definite advantages ;) Looks like this ship will have FAMILY cabins as well. I know that will make some people happy ;) a recent article from Porthole magazine for those that are interested: http://www.porthole.com/holland-america-line-gives-glimpse-of-ms-koningsdam-cruise-news-nov-14-2014/?utm_source=Porthole+Newsletter+List&utm_campaign=bf956e2f22-Cruise_News_14Nov1411_14_2014&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_2bb4b07ca7-bf956e2f22-90431449

No sports or casino bar that I saw Sent from my iPhone 6 using Forums No Sports Bar? Where are we sport fans supposed to congregate to watch our favorite teams play in whatever sports we are interested? On every cruise where there has been games televised and the ship was able to obtain the TV feed in which I was interested, the Sports Bar was packed and beverages were being sold. Rare cbr663 Posted November 15, 2014 #568 Share Posted November 15, 2014 I really like the design choices for the new King. The choice of finishes is certainly more modern and a great step forward. The Queen's Lounge looks wonderful. The Culinary Arts Centre now has tables and chairs which I like. Is anyone else concerned that Deck 2 has basically one narrow hall way in which to walk? This looks like it may be a very busy deck. I hadn't noticed the single/solo cabins. Thanks to previous posters for pointing it out. Great move by HAL, let's hope that the premium isn't too large. The introduction of new dining options is always a welcomed addition. I was hoping that there would have been more speciality dining restaurants. Looks like HAL is taking a step back from the suite experience. Having just one true suite on a ship this large is surprising. Perhaps HAL has learned that the suite life is not its niche and those cruisers looking for a true suite experience cruise elsewhere?

On the plan for the Koningsdam, there's no door shown to separate the toilet from the sink, so you'd have to walk by the person there  to get to the rest of the bathroom. Kind of defeats the purpose of the separation of the components.
