Century Suite Guarantee or Sky Suite S2

We're considering a cruise on the Century in Australia later this year and are considering trying a Suite, which we've never had before as there are some good prices when compared with Concierge.

The total price per person for a Concierge C1 including taxes and gratuities is $2682. We can get a Century Suite Guarantee for a total of $2689, so only $7 more than for a Concierge. We can get a Sky Suite S2 for $2999 in either 1067 or 1073.

I've read that 1200, 1201, 1202 and 1203 suites have small verandahs so we would prefer a room with a bigger verandah.

We've never booked a Guarantee before as we usually book early and pick the location we want but since the price is so close to the Concierge price it's very tempting for this cruise. I realise that the Century suites are not as big as on other ships but it still could a nice to try.

We currently have a cruise booked on board the Solstice for a Solstice March 2015 cruise but will have to cancel that one because of work committments. We have the beverage package included, along with $300 OBC. The current Pick Your Perk promotion expires today, April 30, so I may need to decide on the Century cruise today to be sure of getting the drink package again.

Celebrity are offering a Farewell Century promotion that also expires today that gives you the choise of an OBC of $100 for Concierge and $200 for Suites. As an alternative to that they are offering Captain's Club members a discount of up to $250 off instead of the onboard credit - $150 for Concierge and $250 for Suites. Plus, you can combine this discount with one other offer of your choice. It would appear that we would each get the $250 discount off our fare so although I would expect that we would

lose the $300 OBC we already have we would be ahead with the $250 each discount.

If we do this cruise we will both become Elite. My wife has 240 points and I have 282, since I did a cruise in February with our Son which my wife didn't do, so if we book this cruise in at least Concierge class she will have the 300 points.

So the big decision is whether to try a Celebrity Suite Guarantee for $2689 or a Sky Suite S2 in 1067 or 1073 midship for $2999. I see on the Celebrity website that the Century Suites are 190 sq ft with a 35 sq ft balcony while the Sky Suites are4 246 sq ft with a 69 - 179 sq ft.

I would appreciate any thoughts on these choices, especially if you've stayed in either of these suite types on the Century.

I would definitely go for the S2 over the Century Suite guarantee. On Century, and only on Century, I'd be afraid of being assigned category NS (Century Suite) if I were sitting on a guarantee category. Category NS is not actually a suite with regard to size (especially the bathroom), but rather a standard balcony cabin that comes with Butler service, thus the Suite category rating.

How much more is the S1 than S2? While we've been in Sky Suites on both decks 10 and 12, we much prefer the S1's on deck 12, except 1200, 1201, 1202 and 1203 as you've already mentioned. All the other deck 12 S1's have deep balconies.

Good luck with your decision and have a wonderful cruise.

Thanks to you all for your replies. We've decided that we will select a cabin ourselves rather than not knowing what we'll get with a Suite Guarantee.

The S1 cabins on deck 12 are $3239 each (including taxes and gratuities) compared with $2999 each for the S2 in 1067 or 1073 so that's $240 extra for each of us, so I think we'll stick with the S2 since that is midship and Spookwife said they are in 1068 which has a deep balcony so I would expect that 1067 would be identical, in the same position on the opposite side of the ship. I would also assume that 1073 would be a similar size, looking at the deck plans.

One last thing before we book - my wife can get sea sick and she's a bit worried that with the Century being a smaller ship she may be more likely to get sick compared with the larger ships we've sailed on, including the Constellation and Solstice. I would appreciate any thoughts on how the Century handles rough weather compared with the other ships. This is a 12 night cruise that travels from Sydney to New Caledonia and Vanuatu in October.

For $480 difference, I think you made a good decision going with a mid-ship deck 10 selection. And that should also play a more positive role (being mid-ship) for your wife. Although I said we much prefer deck 12 Sky Suites on Century, we have no aversions to those on deck 10. We just like deck 12, that's all.

A consideration: Booking a Century Suite on Century gives you access to Michael's Club with all the benefits. The Sky Suite does not. I know, it doesn't make sense since the Sky Suite is usually more expensive, but that's the rule.

Another consideration: The Century Suite I had on a 3 day Caribbean was the worst cabin I've ever had. The balcony was constantly dirty from soot and in poor condition.

Very interesting to know! What exactly does access to Michael's Club give you? Do you think they give Century Suite occupants this special perk knowing the suite isn't really a suite by most people's standards? Thanks for sharing this info...

The biggest benefit is the free drinks. They even go beyond the premium package. Unlike the Elite Hour you can take drinks with you. Snacks on Century are from Murano. Same is true on Reflection so they are much better than Elite Hour. You also receive the services of the Michael's Club Concierge. A breakfast is served, but on most ships the Elite breakfast is better IMHO. However, Century might be the exception. There is an afternoon tea on Reflection, but I don't know for certain that it is fleetwide. Michael's Club on Reflection had special entertainment on formal nights. You will needothers who experienced Michael's Club on other ships to describe what they experienced. The concept is new and evolving and the experience may vary from ship to ship. The drinks however are standard. Hope this helps.

Aft century Suites are the same size as any veranda and an awful location under the outside portion of the buffet. The trash will blow on the veranda and the noise and lights blare all night. I wouldn't sail on the Century again after our cruise on her last month.

We just got back from a Century and had booked a suite guarantee, and got a Century Suite. Yes the room is no bigger than the regular balcony rooms, but the bathroom was a bit nicer than I expected, and the balcony had room for 2 loungers, 2 chairs, one small table and one regular height table. The lounge chairs were the strap kind, and we did ask for beach towels to put on them- there also was a small amount of soot, that we just shook off the towels before we laid down.

The aft location was ok, but the room was very noisy from creaking during rough seas. There was never much of a crowd above us at the Sunset Bar, so I never felt that was an issue. There was a small amount of trash, a sugar packet or two, once an empy paper cup, but those were all cleaned up when the steward came.

The BEST part of a Century suite was Michaels Club and the special Suite perks. We had the premium drink package anyway, but would not have needed it all, due to the drinks in Michael Club. Had great hors douerves, lite breakfast(including lox and any beverage from COVA cafe), special evening events- senior officers meeting, piano player, guitar player. Getting escorted onboard the ship, getting escorted to tenders, and getting escorted thru disembarkation was great.

The concierge, Tudor, was always in the club and would take care of any requests you may have or resolve issues for you- we are low key and did not have any real problems or requests. Our Butler was great too, but both suites get a Butler.

We definetly felt very pampered on this cruise, and never even made it to the Elite Cocktail Hour or Breakfast. We knew with a Suite Guarantee that we would either get a larger Sky Suite in a better location or the aft Century Suite with the extra perks, so we were prepared for either.

We will probably never be able to book one of the high end suites, so the Century Suite was a great deal for us and made the cruise very special.

Thanks everyone for your advice. We booked the Sky Suite S2 1067 and my wife is happy that it is mid ship.

Only just over 5 months to go!

Stick with your sky suite. They're very nice. Those Celebrity suites on the Century are not suites. My friend had one of each on our Century cruises in February. Said she couldn't sleep at all in the Century suite for all the noise. AND, which no one has mentioned, the bed is against the wall on the long side. Person on the inside needs to crawl over the person on the outside to get out. Her sky suite on the next leg was lovely and roomy.

Happy cruiser, in room 1144, the bed was not against the wall, must be different in some rooms.

Sorry, my mistake. She was in a family ocean view which does have the bed against the wall. She was sailing solo, so not a big issue. That room did have a large deck, but she said the noise level in the cabin was intolerable. She was in 9245.

Hi there so good to hear you had a great time in a Century Suite,we are in one in Dec 2014.We also probably will never be able to afford a higher category so will be nice to be pampered.I think we can put up with a little soot for the benefits.
