I agree, something like Deep Woods Off or such that is like 25% DEET.

 

You may not need it; but it is best to be prepared.

Yes, those are very handy for travel and also have a high concentration of DEET.

Not sure if I can name a brand here or not... but when I travelled to India I took "The Great Outdoors" insect repellent which was a product of Watkins. Excellent product, and yes it has deet as a key ingredient.

You must use one with Deet and not one with only a little Deet.

A shotgun might be the best bet. You do realize that the state bird of AK is the mosquito. They have been known to carry off small children and small dogs.

 

Seriously, you do need to have a repellent that contains DEET. I have been told that once you get above 30% DEET, the stuff is no better at repelling mosquitoes. However, the stronger stuff also supposedly lasts longer.

 

Be careful with the really strong stuff as it can dissolve certain fabrics.

I always have a head net in my camera case. Has come in handy many times especially with No See Ums which I strongly hate.

Wonder Lake still had a fair amount of bugs a couple of days ago. I think the relatively warm weather has made the bugs last longer than usual this year.

It would depend on the bug. Some take a real killer frost to knock down. Mosquitos here in Edmonton Canada will be back until the overnight hits 0 C or -32 F. Shame to say, but not cold for us.

We have run into Mosquitos in Fairbanks for the past two days. Not horrible, but definitely around.

We were in Fairbanks a few days ago. No mosquito just those little black flies. Did not need repellant. Same for Denali. No bugs at wonder lake, just plenty of berries.

Just to prove we were there.
