What was the Worst Royal Caribbean cruise?

Worst cruise ever....2006 Radiance cruise. It had nothing to do with the ship or cruiseline. My 19 yr old son's 19 yr old friend who joined us on the cruise climbed onto the outside of the ship and tried to jump off . This took place on the 4th night of the cruise. After he had jump down several decks on the outside of the ship he finally ended up on Deck 2 or 3 going through the crew quarters and out on a "ledge" on the back of the ship. He was out there for several hours with crew trying to talk him into coming back in.

Finally after about 3 hours the Captain came down and threatened to throw him off the ship himself if he didn't come back in and sure enough he came back in.

We were escorted to our cabin and had security posted outside our door. The next morning we were politely asked to get off the ship and stay off in St Marrten. We were escorted down the pier with all of our luggage and were on our own.

I must say through all of this RCCL was wonderful to me! They helped me secure flights to get back home ( at a cost of over $5000) in no way did I blame them for putting us off the ship.....I didn't want to be there with this idiot either.

This friend of my son's we had known for 10 yrs and had no idea he was on medication for ADD and some psychological disorder.

This is why I always urge people to never take any of your kids friends on a cruise. If they are under 21 you are responsible for them and if they screw up you are screwed!!

The night this all happened the ship was put on lock down and they also put 2 life boats in the water in case he jumped. There was talk that I could have been held financially responsible for the fuel costs for that as well but thank goodness that didn't happen!!

You win :p

My "worst" cruise which wasn't bad at all really, was my Labor Day weekend Majesty cruise. It was the worst because it turned out to be just a drunken party cruise - not for me, but for a very large percentage of the passengers. There were at least three bachelorette parties going on, with drunk bridesmaids in bikinis dancing around the pool deck making idiots out of themselves. I'm sure it was quite a show for the guys on board  There was also a very large family group that were the rudest people I've ever seen on a ship, pushing their way to the front of lines, being really obnoxious in the shops on board, talking loudly in the past guest party when the Hotel Director was speaking, etc. It made me never want to take another weekend cruise, ever (I did, and thankfully they were nothing like the Majesty cruise).

Independence, early December 2013, eastern Caribbean. This ship of about 4000 pax was overwhelmed by about 2000 seniors, possibly because RCI was selling last-minute deals into seniors homes??? I'm a senior myself, but I have never experienced such rude, aggressive behaviour from fellow pax before.

These people ran the ship. Their many, many walkers and scooters were parked in the passageways all the time. They ran their vehicles over the feet of people waiting in line, to get to the front. They saved a dozen or more seats in every venue for their pals. They monopolized the waiters in the dining room with their many demands for special foods RIGHT NOW. We could never get an ice cream from the soft serve machine on the pool deck because they formed a barricade of their walkers and their chums - that machine was theirs.

The staff were powerless to deal with their numbers and their rudeness. I remember a Russian crew member standing on a chair shouting, "No! You're doing it wrong!" as these people barged to the front, regardless of the people who had been waiting in line. As if they gave a hoot. They didn't.

Indy, early December, eastern Caribbean. Never again. Never, never, never.

I thought I was going to die on the Brilliance Dec/10, but I'm still here. I don't think of it as my worst cruise, because it wasn't. It was the most memorable, I'll give it that.

It's hard to even quantify my worst cruise. First World problems, really, when you think about it. Think of people in this world dying, starving, in dictatorships, etc - your worst cruise would be their heaven. ;)

DH and I have gone on many Majesty weekend cruises, most of the time over Thanksgiving Weekend. They are filled with families, so lots of children. The first time we went on Majesty was over a Christmas Weekend, and that one had many many more party people or DRUNKS.

I've only been on two cruises so far and something went wrong on both, but I enjoyed both so much!

The first was Majesty in 2009, it was only 3 days for our honeymoon. The cruise itself was fine (besides the sunburn I got at the end!), but afterwards we had used all our money (we didn't realize how much we'd spend) and our flight got delayed and entire day and night. We didn't have money for a hotel and they wouldn't give us our bags. We had to sleep in the airport that was freezing cold with no money, blanket, jacket or anything. Was horrible. I learned never to fly again without a packed carryone and extra cash!

Our second cruise was Voyager in 2011 (we drove this time :P). I wont a decent amount in the casino and everyone (for the most part was friendly) but we had some annoying table mates in the MDR, they were "stuck up" and frowned upon us and made us feel belittled, so we just ate the buffet the rest of the trip. Also got a massage for the first time on a cruise and they wouldn't stop trying to sell us stuff, they even followed us to our room when we escaped saying maybe later, asking if we "found the money" to buy it.. what?? The next day after the massage my back HURT EXTREMELY bad, I never had that with a massage before, thankfully it was gone by evening, but I was in agony. And I got sea sick on the second day due to choppy waters. The lines to get off the boat were very long and we heard someone screaming at his family about having to "take a number # 2 (not in those words)" at the top of his lungs and seen someone shoving someone else in the buffet (not sure how that resolved, we went the other direction). Even with all that though, I won in the casino, won in the scavenger hunt, got so many compliments on my formal dress; I adored the cruise.

My worst vacation though would be NOLA on Halloween with my "Church going mother" who hated everything and had to pee every ten seconds and we didn't have cell phones then so we couldn't find bathrooms quick enough for her and all she did is complain. I hated NOLA then.. but when we went on the Voyager in 2011 we revisited and I fell in love with that city, so goes to show anything can be bad if the circumstances are, but if you give it another try you may love it! :)

Our "worse" cruise was a Hawaiian cruise on Celebrity. The cruise itself was great but I got sick from eating what I think was spoiled mayonnaise at the Pool Grill and spent the entire evening sitting on the bathroom floor. I was fine the next day, but did not have an appetite for the last three days of our cruise. The upside was coming home several pounds lighter!:D

Yes, I've been on 14 cruises since getting kicked off the Radiance in 2006 and they have all been great. Just the other day someone asked my son how many cruises he has been on and he answered 5 1/2 :)

Incidentally, my son has had no contact with that person since we returned from that cruise, however , a few years ago we did see his mug shot on our local TV station.....seems he tried to rob a 7-11 Convenience store with a machete

Worst by far for me was Vision back in May. We experienced horrible service everywhere we went which ranged from indifferent (at best) to downright rude or incompetent (at worst). Our waiter, cabin attendant, and even pier check in agent were the worst at their individual positions we've ever seen.

The cruise line isn't to blame for the behavior of the cruisers.....You yourself admit that you have been on several other weekend cruises and had never seen it as bad as that Enchantment cruise.

Was the service provided by the cruise line bad? What would you have liked the cruise line to do differently than they did? The idea to 'not offer drink packages on the weekend cruises' isn't going to happen.

Never had a totally bad cruise, but my last cruise on RCI on the Radiance years ago swore me off the line for awhile (trying again on Freedom in October with a positive attitude). It was when Radiance was having plumbing problems and it was horrible. Literally, BROWN water coming out of the bathroom sink faucets at times. Sewer smell in the room a good portion of the time (thank goodness we had a balcony!). Toilet not working 1/3 of the time. Toilets on our floor all out for hours at a time (including middle of the night). Toilet backing up in our relatives room all over their cabin. Bad luck to be next door to a chain smoker who was a cabin rat - always out on their balcony any time we wanted to enjoy ours. We literally used our balcony about 20 minutes the entire cruise for that reason. After that horrendous experience I swore off RCI until their smoking policy changed (figured the plumbing problem was a relatively rare thing that could happen to any line). Looking forward to Freedom and I'm sure we will have a great time.:)

I have to agree with many previous posters, firstly the only time I have not enjoyed every minute of the cruises I have taken are when I was in a bad mood before it started. Even then, the ports, staff, food and excursions were just as expected - excellent.

Just once, I was really disappointed that our sailaway took place during the muster drill and we missed the fun.
