Royal 12/20/2015 dropped Aruba and St. Thomas

I hope I'm doing this right. I don't usually start threads, so if it's in the wrong place, let me know.

 

Just got an email from my TA, forwarding on a PDF from Princess, with an itinerary change for the 12/20/2015 sailing of the Royal. They've dropped Aruba and St. Thomas for "operational reasons" and added Sint Maarten and Curacao in their place.

 

Has anyone heard anything about what these "operational reasons" might be?

It could be anything from the dock is unavailable to fuel savings to logistics of another ship.

I was thinking the same thing. We're on the Royal's 03/09/2015 sailing, so I'm reading this with a lot of interest!!

 

Just noticed the OP's date is not until December 2105 though....

It would not be fuel savings since the two new islands are close to the scheduled ones. IMO the two new ones are a better choice than the two old ones. I have been to all four and if I never go back to Aruba again it may be too soon. There simply is not much there unless you like the beach. St Thomas can be interesting but it is very crowded.

 

I would guess there is a problem with getting pier space in the two islands.

IMHO, St. Maarten and Curaçao are much better ports. Love both of them. St. Thomas is very crowded and Aruba isn't nearly as nice as Curaçao.

On our upcoming cruise, the ships in St. Thomas are scheduled to disembark 19,800 passengers. :eek: We arrive first, but how do I get the family to agree to get off the ship at 7:30 to "beat the crowds"? :o

Book a private excursion and you wont have that issue. ;)

We have an upcoming Royal cruise (early 2015) which has stops in the two ports you've been cancelled from. Whoa did you luck out, St Martin and Curacao are much better stops. Wish my cruise could have such a schedule change.

Check http://ports.cruisett.com to see what ships and what passenger load are in port those days. Suspect you did come out ahead.

I'd have to agree with the other posters. I'd take St. Maarten and Curacao over St. Thomas and Aruba any day.

When is she suppose to arrive in Curacao? because I'm seeing on the 25th we have Celebrity Eclipse, and on Friday 26th Adventure of the Seas. Both ships docks at the Mega Pier. If that is the case, I guess she will be docking at Caracas Baai.

we are on the "royal" sailing on 11/20/15. they are on out itinery we got from princess when we booked last weekend.
