aggiewife12 Posted January 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2015 This is one of my dresses I'm having made for formal night. It's tea length and a satiny material. I'm assuming it's formal enough. My DH will wear a white dinner jacket. What kind of jewelry? Definitely need a statement necklace but pearls, diamonds, or sapphires?
Cozzette2 Posted January 2, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2015 That dress is super cute and perfect for formal night. What shoes will you wear ?
aggiewife12 Posted January 2, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted January 2, 2015 Haven't decided on shoes yet. Maybe something dyed to match. I want a classy 50's look. I'll even have a petticoat so the skirt will be full.
aggiewife12 Posted January 2, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted January 2, 2015 If the navy will match, maybe these!

Rare Lois R Posted January 2, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 2, 2015 Very pretty and yes, it will work on formal night:) We all have our own opinions about jewels;)......is the dress black? For me? I would wear a white metal....either silver, white gold.....not sure what you have in your wardrobe.....a pretty necklace with a pendant and a pair of drop earrings......OR if you are going for a "classic look"? I think pearls would look lovely....with a medium pearl chandelier type of earring. Or an earring with a pearl stud in the lobe with a teardrop shape coming down. OR if you have diamonds or fake diamonds...... I know real ones are no where in my budget but I have some pretty fake ones that I wear. Again, these suggestions are what I think would go.....I am sure other gals will have their own opinions/suggestions.
slidergirl Posted January 2, 2015 #9 Share Posted January 2, 2015 I love the retro look of the dress (even though it's not my style). The shoes have the rhinestone bling to them, so I wouldn't do pearls up top. Just me. I would, like someone else said, do the silver necklace with some silver/rhinestone/Swarovski crystal. Swarovski has some nice retro-looking pieces. Add some medium-size chandelier earrings and go!!! Note: I make my own things with Swarovski - you can find your local bead store and get stuff to make exactly what you want!!!
Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted January 2, 2015 #10 Share Posted January 2, 2015 No opinion on what jewelry to choose. I just want to add that I love the dress. It is gorgeous. I wish I had the figure to wear a dress like that. There used to be a famous television actress in the fifties who started every television show by whirling down the stairs in fabulous dresses. This dress reminds me so much of what she would wear. I can just see her grand entrance in that lovely gown the OP has chosen.

Anyway, I think pearls would go with the look.
Rare Scrapnana Posted January 3, 2015 #12 Share Posted January 3, 2015 I think pearls would carry out the retro-look but not with those shoes. Like slidergirl, I think a white metal with crystals/rhinestones would look great with the shoes and dress.
Langley Cruisers Posted January 3, 2015 #13 Share Posted January 3, 2015 Gorgeous! Funny, I didn't get the "retro" vibe at all. I like the shoes. But I do think you will "make" it retro if you went with pearls. Have a fun afternoon trying things on at home! Then only take what you need to prevent over-packing. aggiewife12 Posted January 3, 2015 Author #15 Share Posted January 3, 2015 Thanks everyone! As long as the colors match, I am definitely getting those shoes. I found this vintage choker that I think will be perfect. I will wear diamond earrings. Sapphire is my birthstone, so I'm sure I will wear it again. I'll even have a petticoat so the skirt will be full. Shoes dyed to match, or otherwise matching your dress, is a classic 50s look. Perfect for the silhouette of the dress too! Given that...I'd vote for pearls...that also seems very 50s.

arkiesgirl Posted January 4, 2015 #24 Share Posted January 4, 2015 I agree. Lovely dress and any of the necklaces will be lovely, just don't pair pearls with the rhinestone shoes. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
