Canadian cruisers!!

Is there a Nexus line for embarking, or disembarking the ship? Thanks!

No Nexus options at any of the US ports we've been to. It might be an option at a port that provides ferry service between Canada and the US like between Victoria, BC and Port Angeles, WA. We've never sailed into Victoria or other border ports so I can't comment on this.

A Canadian needs a passport to cruise unless the cruise goes to Cdn ports only.

"NEXUS members also receive expedited processing at marine reporting locations."

Or US ports. While there is no separate Nexus line, you can still use your card for an Alaskan or Canada - New England cruise. DW and I have done both with our Nexus cards.

True, but our experience with RCI is that Canadians, actually all non-American citizens, still need a passport for the initial embarkation on the ship if sailing from or going to any US ports.

Looking into Nexus further since it is a Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) or Trusted Travel Document it would be accepted from Canadians at embarkation for a cruise sailing between the United States and Canada, the Caribbean, Bahamas, Bermuda, Panama Canal and Mexico according to

It sounds like Terminal 18 at Port Everglades has it. We are sailing out of there in a few weeks, so I will report back about it. See the following thread around post 50, cruisers describe their experiences with it.

A&L Ont, your link takes me to a post with only 3 pages. I searched for Nexus and came back with nothing. Let me know what you searched on and I can try.

Also, I'm leaving on Saturday, so please don't look just for me when you go, I'll be back by then. :)

Thanks!

I think that it all comes down to what options the cruise lines offer when you are doing your online checkin. If you can enter the information for your NEXUS card there, you should be ok at embarkation, but I know that some lines' online checkin, at least until very recently, were geared only to accept passport information.

For the time being, I travel with both.

That would be very good. Look forward to hearing what you find out.

Thanks

I am not certain to what more you might be looking for. Nexus in Canada is the equilivant to Global Entery in the US. The link I provided talks about Global Entrey into the US at the terminal 18 in FLL, which you can use if you have Nexus. The same link has CC cruisers describing how the Global Entery line process worked at that terminal. I am not certain on what else there is to look up.

Perhaps I am not understanding what you are looking for, but if you can clarify a bit better I might be able to assist you. Since you sail prior to me, can you report back when you return, on how the Global Entery/Nexus system worked.

We were looking to put an order in at Total Wine to do a quick pick up on our way from the airport to the port. However, we can't place an order because we don't have a US address. Just wonder if anyone has a work around to this "technicality". I'd rather not go in and browse and select wine there with the meter running.

Thanks!

  • 3 weeks later...

I just tried twice to add $499USD in OBC, an hour apart, and both times they told me I had to FAX in my CC info since I already have two transactions of $499.

I don't think it's a big deal to do that, so I guess I will. She quoted the exchange rate at 1.1 still.

Anyone else have this issue recently?

I just purchased another $499 on Tuesday. I was not required to fax anything, also my sister bought another $499 on Wednesday and she was not asked to fax anything either. This was my fourth transaction. I think it depends on who you get when you call.

I made a $499 purchase about three weeks ago and was told that the next time I'd have to send a fax due to new policy. When I ordered more last week, there was no fax requirement. Seems that they still aren't sure what the policy is. I'm happy one way or the other as long as I can get that rate. :)

I just did this on my sailing last month and I had no issues withdrawing money from the casino. I did it 3 times, I believe. They tried to charge my friend but after I cleared up that there should be no charge, we were good the rest of the week.

Did you set up a cash account or were you able to do so with a normal credit card account?

It has to be on a cash account and although you can add a credit card on the reservation later in the sailing, that's only for anything above and beyond your credit. They will not refund any leftover credit to that credit card. I tried twice with no luck.

I called the regular RCL Customer Service number twice this afternoon to ask about pre-purchasing OBC and got 2 different answers. I then called the C & A number and spoke to a very knowledgeable Rep that confirmed all the info I've read on this thread.

I purchased $250 USD OBC. There's a pending charge on my MasterCard for $275 CAD. Thanks to the OP!

I am glad they are still doing this. I am starting to look at doing a cruise here soon starting to get that itch again
