Clarea Posted December 4, 2015 #1601 Share Posted December 4, 2015 If this is likely to be an issue, can you set up your account on a credit card when you check in and change it later to a cash account once the OBC are posted?... Yes, no problem.
Ourusualbeach Posted December 4, 2015 #1602 Share Posted December 4, 2015 Yes, no problem. Thanks Bob, I wasn't sure whether Royal would actually remove your credit card from their file once you have given it to them.
Clarea Posted December 4, 2015 #1603 Share Posted December 4, 2015 Thanks Bob, I wasn't sure whether Royal would actually remove your credit card from their file once you have given it to them. I don't really know if they cannot charge to the card anymore. The indication I had that our account had been changed to cash was the fact that I could get cash at the casino without the service charge. Bob is right. The Ultimate Bev Pkg, is going right now for $89 CAD, but are sold onboard for $67 USD, so with the 1.10 exchange rate we get on OBC, that equals to $73.70 CAD per day instead of $89. that is a savings of $107 CAD per person on a 7 day Cruise. dp

KiwiGal117 Posted December 4, 2015 #1610 Share Posted December 4, 2015 If you are based in Canada, the website should recognize that and send you to the Canadian website. However, I found the Cdn pricing inside my reservation which is in Cdn dollars. I haven't checked the general website directly lately.
davidsmum Posted December 4, 2015 #1611 Share Posted December 4, 2015 Wanted to report back that we had no problem spending our OBC on serenade! Purchased 2 drink packages as we boarded the ship which were well over the $500 limit and enjoyed our first drink within minutes!! Once in our room there were notes to advise us of our OBC purchases We were able to withdraw cash at the casino without any issues. This was a great deal and made a big difference to our total spend! Thank you! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
madeph Posted December 4, 2015 #1612 Share Posted December 4, 2015 Interesting facts. Unfortunately, my reservation is in USD so sadly the Canadian rate doesn't apply. :( Just to clarify how the casino work with your card... Do you just insert the card at the slot, punch in how much you want, charge it to the room, and play and/or cash it? I'd like to pay off the account balance each night using a debit card (don't have any OBC), would that work? I think there's a limit of $500, right? As far as I know the machines do not take the seapass cards. You need to get cash at the cashiers cage.

Clarea Posted December 4, 2015 #1615 Share Posted December 4, 2015 (edited) Oh, I see. I think they charge a fee to do that, right? They charge 5% if your onboard account is secured witha credit card. No charge if the account is a cash type account. Ourusualbeach Posted December 4, 2015 #1616 Share Posted December 4, 2015 Oh, I see. I think they charge a fee to do that, right? There is 5% fee to withdraw cash unless you have a cash account set up. There is a bank machine on board that you could withdraw cash from as well. cantellu Posted December 4, 2015 #1617 Share Posted December 4, 2015 There, I just added $499 USD OBC to both our staterooms for our next cruise. Still got the 1.10 exchange rate but limit was $499 per transaction (As explained by that particular agent ;-) YMMV I know our cruise is still a ways away but did not want to miss out on that exchange rate and I don't see our CAN $ going north of 1.10 anytime soon. The agent also sent me 2 emails confirming the Purchase of OBC in the amount of $548.90 CAD each. dp Did the email show you how much OBC you had in US dollars. That's the important part. What if the exchange was not 10% and you actual OBC was $460 USD

Go to guest services and ask to switch to a cash account. Just set up a cash account. Do not give them your debit card. They will do holds every day and it takes a while for the holds to drop off. Gratuity has already been included in the price of each package. Please note: Orders cannot be modified once they're added to your shopping cart. To change an order, you'll need to first cancel the order, and then make your purchase(s) again. so then it would be $17.62 cheaper to purchase before leaving home. am I doing something wrong or maybe missing something? i'm into saving anyway I can. tia. These rates are set and adjusted quarterly. I've noticed the shore excursions go up and down slightly (I think more than every quarter) and have assumed this was due to the exchange rate. We did book one excursion before our cruise in CAD, but we are leaving our drink package to onboard. And although it seems like more of a hassle, I am thinking of setting up our account in cash due to being able to use the cash when in port for our other two stops. PS - We also pre-paid gratuity but that's because I locked in at the old price before they increased it (think around the June timeframe) Edited December 5, 2015 by LuCruise
