Rare aussielozzie18 Posted February 9, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2015 Interested in doing a cruise to Tassie on the Diamond Princess. On the itinerary is an afternoon of scenic cruising in Wineglass Bay. As I plan to book a balcony, can anyone who has done this cruise advise if there is best side of the ship for this? The ship will be coming from Melbourne and once we leave Wineglass Bay, we will be heading to Hobart.

By The Bay Posted February 9, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2015 Not having done the cruise, but my guess would be that the Captain would cruise one way and then turnaround and cruise back giving both sides a view.;)
aussiecruiser275 Posted February 9, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2015 The way the ship will anchor I would suggest either AFT (view of bay) or Port (view of the mountains on the left). The ship usually anchors facing away from the bay. At least they did earlier this year.
caribill Posted February 9, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2015 The way the ship will anchor I would suggest either AFT (view of bay) or Port (view of the mountains on the left). The ship usually anchors facing away from the bay. At least they did earlier this year. If they drop both front anchors, then the ship will stay with the same views. If they drop only one anchor, the ship may rotate which will change the view no matter where your cabin is.
Aus Traveller Posted February 9, 2015 #6 Share Posted February 9, 2015 I suggested the starboard side because that is the side the land will be on before and after Wineglass Bay. At the Freycinet National Park it is likely both sides of the ship will have a view.
icat2000 Posted February 9, 2015 #7 Share Posted February 9, 2015 I've done this cruise. Don't recall the ship dropping anchor. From memory because it was in November 2013 the ship just turned the ship around so both sides could view it.
LC1950 Posted February 10, 2015 #8 Share Posted February 10, 2015 Yep, have done it on the Dawn Princess and no anchors dropped, just a very slow sail and several full turns so it won't matter whether you're on port or starboard, you won't miss anything.
