When you are in the MDR you can order almost anything from a previous days menu..ex...you had delicious French Onion Soup on Monday...now its Thursday and its not on the current menu...you can still get it..this was true 5 years ago on our last cruise...im hoping things have not changed...

I don't think so. Not everything. Can't get the souffle dessert from night 1 menu because I have asked (but I didn't whine, insist, or stomp my feet).

Also try the :Cruise Chips: It is either vanilla or chocolate ice cream between two big chocolate chip cookies.

Is that in the dining room? And do you pick it up and hold it to eat? Pardon the "silly" questions, but that sounds a yuumy way to have cookies and ice cream. And yes, I AM a sucker for a nice chocolate chip cookie, or two:D

Taking notes for when I sail-this sounds like a much improved version of what I know as an ice cream wafer-ice cream between 2 thin wafer biscuits, it's a real challenge not to break the wafer and "wear" the ice cream! Which I didn't always succeed at!:D

Yes in the dining room on kid's menu. It is served on a plate & you eat it with a fork or spoon. It is to die for,

I would frequently get a plate of cheese and crackers to take to our room at night. They got so used to me, they got them ready when they saw me coming. I will miss the IC so much on the island when we cruise the Panama Canal next April.

Sounds like we are missing out as well. This is our first Princess cruise and it's to the Mediterranean on the Island so no IC :o(

What "secrets" should a first timer on Princess need to know about?

It is not a secret, but be sure to read the Patter (the daily information on activities) carefully to learn about all that is offered each day.

Don't end the cruise learning about something you would have liked to do but missed it because you had not seen it announced.

THANK YOU! A spoon would probably give me greater control with guidance using the fork. I have Any Time Dining, and have delightedly noted the Volcano and the Chips.

I was hoping for a Pub Lunch to "tease" an English Friend of mine-I've been "tormenting" her mentioning the Afternoon Tea in the Window Suite I can enjoy, and promising to take photos of the scones, jam and cream for her. And to enjoy every bite for her!

IIRC, some other poster mentioned you could go to the Dining Room just for Dessert-that could also be a possibility to remember. So many useful tips on Cruise Critic, the former work colleague who is also sailing with me, he's booked sole occupancy of an Inside Stateroom on Plaza Deck, I'm on Fiesta Desk, has been stunned by the useful information I've learned on Cruise Critic. His hair is er-challenging to control, only a particular shampoo and conditioner combination will do, so I suggested I get some Travel size bottles for him to "Bring His Own" as I'd read the Shampoo/Conditioner combination may not suit all hair types.

He asked me how I'd get on, I explained that as a Suite Passenger, I receive the same Toiletries that Elite Loyalty Captain's Circle Members do, and can also attend the Elite/Suite/Platinum Nightly gathering. I cannot take him as we are not sharing the Window Suite, and I wouldn't feel comfortable having him share the stateroom overnight anyway. I've already offered, once I'm up and enjoyed breakfast, to invite him to the Window Suite to enjoy the window views, and we can each have a Queen bed for sole occupancy! As he's 6 foot, plus and well-built, that might be important-it's his and my first ever cruise. If we were actually related, I wouldn't be too bothered, and he's also not terribly comfortable at being too intrusive, very aware that inviting him to spend time with me in the Suite is a privilege.

I did offer to "share" Afternoon Tea as the catering is really generous I've been told. He's suggested we both sit at the same table for the evening meal-we both want to try Sabatini's, Crown Grill and are hoping for the Crab Shack on the 3rd evening. I've suggested I do the bookings, mentioning a fellow passenger will be joining me, as I can get Priority Bookings with being in a Suite. Equally, I have no intention of "abusing" the Suite Privileges, but don't like sharing a table with strangers-had some unfortunate experiences and now wary. He's no problem, we've sat at the same table for our lunch many a time when I worked at the same company. We both love ice cream, so I think he'll also be VERY interested in those thoughtful recommendations.

When you just want regular chocolate chip cookies, they are normally available in the IC (International Café) from about noon on. :)

THANK YOU! I'm notorious for getting peckish through the night, so will bring a lunch box to hold a "midnight" snack! Choc Chip Cookies are a weakness of mine too, you temptress! :D

Did read about the items available changing, so will check daily and take photos to share with friends back home. Have noted to be careful about noting when photos were taken; where I was-deck, venue, direction faced and whether I had to take multiple photos to get as much information as possible because of the size of the venue.

Thank goodness for digital cameras-it's SO easy to quickly check a photo, and reshoot if necessary.

Does anyone know if a wallet which holds multiple-possibly up to 48 cards is available, and the price in USD$, I can calculate an approximate currency conversion to budget how much to allow, in one of the shops on board please? A friend has one, and finds it invaluable to keep all her assorted cards-financial and membership, neatly together in 1 tidy wallet. Her mother and sister ignored the chance to buy their own wallets, and struggle with locating the required card when they need it-she just pulls out the 1 wallet, and grabs the card! If I could, I'd like to be able to offer to try and get her a replacement for when she wears the current one out, and possibly wallets for her to give her mother and sister.

I've already, thanks to being warned by fellow Cruise Critic posters, planned to go to my Suite, and grab the paperwork waiting for me, and go to the Dining Room for Embarkation Lunch. I will have a clipboard and notepad with pen to take notes with me, so I can sort through the paperwork, recording what each bit of paper is as I check it. Am gifting myself On Board Credit as Gifts, Casino, Photography, Internet and General so well aware there will be vouchers giving the details. A kind friend sent me a gift of a Computer Tablet cover to "Help Control the Paperwork" and I already know to use magnets to display information I want to refer to. Intend to buy some as souvenirs, but will have 1 with me to try and be organised so I can enjoy the cruise experience!

Can anyone tell me what ship they were on and when they ordered the Volcano? I asked about it on the Pacific Princess and they did not know what it was but tried to tell me that it was a "drink" and I should talk to the bar staff.

There is a volcano drink.... In Hawaii it is very popular.

We had the ribs last month on the Emerald and they were very good. They were on the buffet too which was even better as the was more sauce to put on. .

Thanks, I'll pass this along to our "rib loving friends" who'll be with us on January Emerald cruises. :)

On Ruby in January RIBS were offered at the hamburger grill on deck after 6 o'clock. Nothing in Patter about this. Didn't try them ... but friends said they were very good.

:D

DH has also called room service for his chocolate chip cookies and a glass of milk for dipping;)

THANK YOU!

:D The milk would be most nourishing. I intend to bring covered mugs with me, so I COULD get a glass of milk and some cookies and leave the milk in the fridge to enjoy later.

I remembered reading it's possible with ATD, to go to the dining room just for dessert, so am going to check out the speciality restaurant menus re appetiser, soup and entrée so I won't need dessert, but can get it later! Or, I could "do" dessert at lunch.

Thanks for posting this!

We have great ribs at home whenever we wish so no big deal to us ... BUT are cruising with a bunch of long time "past cruise pals" who had SERIOUSLY rather have BBQ Ribs than lobster or go to a specialty restaurant.

We'll be on Emerald Princess with them for 19 days beginning 1/18/16.

Will it be offered every night?
