Reasons for why you cruise?

Living in Florida is a help for cruising

1. Some cruises are just to get away, for normal life. Many cruises of 4-7 days can be booked for less than a land based get away to South Beach, Key West, or Disney.

2. Being exboaters, and fishermen, we like being out on the ocean and love transatlantic cruises.

3. We use cruises to see "MANY" places we have never been to and could not afford to visit one at a time, if we like the places we will return for a land visit.

4. We like "MOST" of the people we meet in the, D and D+ lounges and have enjoyed stories of world traveler/cruising experiences of others. We really enjoy those travelers who understand that travel is not rocket science and even on a cruise ship there can be problems, and can put a sense of humor in talking about issues, and realize that it is just conversation GOOD OR BAD LOL

For me, a cruise is the total vacation package....... there's entertainment, pools, food, games, spas, casino, bars, and so much more all within walking distance. And, new places to see and experience most every day, how can you beat that? :D

I agree! Then throw in the drink packages that's icing on the cake that already has icing on it.

I love cruising because I don't have to drive, cook meals, clean up, & I can people watch to my hearts content. There are so many activities planned on the ship that I don't understand people saying there is nothing to do. I usually just observe these activities however I do try to dance & I've played Bingo & gone to the casino for a short time. I take advantage of any entertainment available because it is an experience. I can also see new places I have never been to. The employees on the ship have always been very pleasant & willing to assist in any way possible. It's very convenient for us together because hubby doesn't fly & the drive to Baltimore is only about 1 1/2hours distance. I also feel confident going with a friend or another family member & I would not hesitate to go by myself. You don't have to spend a fortune for extras because, for me, I don't need them. Free drinks are included (tea, coffee, milk, water) in the price. All of the entertainment is included. You don't have to get off the ship in port if you don't want to.

I could not think of a better way to hoilday , unpack .... Unwind , I have never complained about the food ... My my standards are lower than some , but any meal that doesn't involve washing dishes after is ok with me . Plus with shows casino , and the fact you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a bar ....win win

Plus I don't have to cook, clean, or find a designated driver!:D

IMO it's the ultimate in relaxation & escape from reality!

I couldn't have said it any better.

I don't have to plan where our meals are, or where we are going to sleep or be entertained.

Someone makes my bed and cleans the bathroom.

Best part is sitting on balcony with the cheese plate watching the sea go by.

We cruise every spring break and take land trips every summer.

On a cruise, you can do as much as you want or as little as you want. You only have to unpack once, and you don't have to worry about fixing meals and cleaning up afterwards. We went on a Carnival cruise once and we were waiting for the main show to start. There was a couple that sat next to us and complained to high heaven about the food. I asked them, "how do you eat like at home?" Do you have steak and lobster at home? I think a cruise is what you make of it. I think some people are prepared to complain before they even get on the ship.

I've been cruising for 30 years, started in my 30s and I still love it. Yes, it has changed a great deal but a very enjoyable way to travel, see far away places.

As a single person, a great way to be by myself, or around other people if I want. All my cruises and I've only had one time where I changed my dining table. I always do early seating, large table and no complaints from me. I always meet the nicest people, well traveled, from many different places.

It is such a good way for me to see places, I wouldn't travel by myself. Next up back to the Med, followed by a transatlantic, the more days the better! I never cruise for less than 10 days, no big mega ships, or Caribbean just not for me. I did that in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, but now that I'm retired I can be gone for 3 or 4 weeks and I love cruising that much!

Never thought I would like cruising. My sister and I did it once and loved it. We both have cruising fever. We love getting away from our jobs and lounging on warm sandy beaches and playing in lovely blue/green water. We don't have that in MT.

Thanks everyone for responding to my post.....so in reading thru them almost all of them do not put much emphasis on food. so that is what I don't understand all the complaints about food????

There's always a variety of food to eat. I guess some people have higher expectations for food than others. Food is the least of my worries. The only thing I don't like is waiting for my next cruise. August can't come soon enough [emoji51]

Lots of people like to complain here. It gives them a chance to vent frustrations, a chance to find other kindred souls, a chance to build their self worth by feeling better than others, and probably many other motivations that a behaviorist could better address. Food is just one of many topics that are chosen. Take it all with a grain of salt.

I cruise because it is the most cost effective way for me to see many different places. I cruise for the ports but I do love being on the ship and staring out at the ocean. I don't care about the entertainment and I can always find something I like to eat even if everything isn't perfect.

We cruise mainly to see places we probably wouldn't get to see, meet new friends and for the relaxation. We are not into all the bells and whistles and never leave with expectations. We take each day as it comes and enjoy it for what we experienced. The little hic cups along the way are minor compared to the overall trip experience. I don't get excited over people cutting in front of me, jumping in the elevator before we get off or attempt to get in. I might not approve but let it pass and continue on with my day. One final note, for me, I can come back from a cruise all rested while land based vacations I need a cruise to unwind. LOL

Because the people who complain about the food are probably too embarrassed to reply to this post after realizing how many other good reasons there are to cruise. I think people just like to vent (or complain) and maybe make a bigger deal about the food than they really care about. Let's hope that they actually really enjoyed the other aspects of their cruise and had a great time, but they didn't like the food and that's what stood out as negative so that's what they wished would get better and make a "perfect" cruise. Who knows. People in general just like to complain and there have been studies done that people are more likely to write a letter, review or complaint about something when they didn't like it, than when they did. Which would explain why ships like the Adventure have such low ratings even though plenty of people who have never written a review will tell you it's a great ship.

Food of course is subjective. To choose a ship, or cruise line due to the buffet to me is like choosing a university because of its dorm food. If it works for someone OK but I myself would put buffet food way down my list of things we look forward on a cruise.
