And what gets cleaned on the balcony?

Ashes? Butts? IDK. :D

The no smoking policy on the balcony is probably based more on not offending current cruisers vs. the no smoking policy in the stateroom not offending future cruisers. (if we ignore the possible spread of fire from balcony to balcony)

While underway, you can smoke occasionally on the balcony. No one cares unless there are multiple smokers or you are running like a chimney. Just shut your balcony door and stay behind the dividers. Of course, don't smoke while you neighbor next door (down wind) is out unless they are cool with it.

And never cruise next to us!

I get all the non-smoking rules.......EXCEPT the e-cig rule. I quit smoking over a year ago but still enjoy my e-cig on occasion. I suppose I can even understand using it in public areas, but on your balcony? That makes no sense to me at all. There is no smell, no ashes and what smoke there is evaporates in seconds. I don't think I'd hesitate to even use it in my room. I use the e-cig all over my house and a non-smoker could walk in seconds after I put it away and never know.

People do it all the time. in fact the room smells nicer after lol. Just be careful with the smoke alarms as we once set off the smoke alarm with an e cigg as someone used an e cigg right under it. Because we were in the haven they came turned it off, asked how and we said it was a vapor and they said nothing and didn't bill us anything. I think the issue is more in public as not everyone realizes it is vapor, not smoke.

We were on the Escape in April of 2016 and are going again on the 28th of this month. In April you could not smoke outside Margariteville on deck 8, but could smoke in casino in designated areas. Has anyone been on Escape recently and know exactly where the smoking areas are? Thanks for any info you can give.

On Escape you can smoke at:

* Deck 17 upper pool bar -- along railing overlooking pool and at nearby high-top tables.

* Most of casino deck 7 only when open -- non-smoking areas of the casino are the hallways and an aft section.

* Humidor cigar lounge -- deck 8 adjacent to Tobacco Road

* Spice H20 -- deck 17 aft

* Haven -- outdoors on deck 19 forward

We were on a New England cruise a couple of years back and smelt smoke in the cabin as soon as we went in. Turned out it was the robes in the closet either had been worn by a smoker or had been in the closet when a smoker hung up their clothes. It smelt really bad, even after the robes were removed. Kind of like been next to a smoker in a line up or an elevator.

Smokers just don't understand. Nor will they ever.

I know....we smokers are so dumb. (Insert sarcastic tone). Personally I DO care about others and will refrain unless I am in a designated area. You shouldn't judge all by the actions of some.

Can anyone fill me in on the Dawn since the refurb?

Terri Lee

We were on the dawn October, 2016. Smoking is still allowed poolside port side, Bimini outdoor bar port side, promenade port side and casino. Not allowed promenade starboard side or deck 13 anymore or the pool deck bar.

I did not say any or all smokers were dumb and I'm sure there are many smokers who are like you and do care. Unfortunately those few (some) as you say, who choose to ignore policies and or do whatever they want, seem to always gravitate towards an area that I am in. For some reason they don't feel policies apply to them.

Just a note about e-cigs.

Just because you, a smoker, can not smell them do not make the mistake that those of us who havn't destroyed our sense nerves can't smell them :p You also don't think that you stink but we can still smell you, lol.

That said, it is Norwegian's ship... smoke where they let you, don't smoke where it is banned.... and if you are a non-smoker OR a smoker and have a problem with this, then you should find a different ship.

Wow. I've been away from the board for a while and what happened to the positive tone. Someone asked about where to smoke and it has come to this such the tone. I'm curious what significance is was that the women smoking was 'heavy set" did that make it worse. Not sure this is a board for me.

As we all know as of November (2015), those of us who smoke have lost precious real estate. For those who have cruised since the switch could you please list the vessel name and areas where you found it permitted to smoke. No need to post the obvious spots like the garden villas or cigar bar, post of your dislikes of smoking are also not welcome, this thread is to help us all get along not pick another great CC debate.

Just a friendly reminder of the OP's intention.

I described the woman because someone asked...

This has really happened? What is your source? Was the person leaning over? I reread the rules and there is nothing about a $250 minimum, that is it. Let me know where you got this info from.

It really happened (according to the CC member)

The source was the CC member who reported the smoker and provided pictures.

The person wasn't "leaning over" but was easy to see not because of her size but because those balconies on GA/BA extend out past the balconies above (where the CC member was).

I gave the best description that I could remember since the original thread was probably deleted.

Just a friendly reminder of the OP's intention.

The OP doesn't get to decide who can post and who can't.

When there are posts that state...

I'm probably going to smoke on the balcony while no one is around and if I get charged 250 I don't really care, but would like to know where the other options are so I can avoid that.

....the OP's intention has been ignored by at least 1 smoker...

HAL recently prohibited cigarette and vaping from balconies but allows vaping inside staterooms. The reason for prohibiting vaping on balconies is, I believe, because people can confuse vaping with smoking and will complain, causing unnecessary visits to the offender by security personnel. There isn't a rational, reasonable reason for a prohibition otherwise.

I'm glad to see this thread. I recall the outside cigar bar on the Star in the Beirgarten, up above the pool, and I thought it was a great location that wasn't a "smoker's ghetto".

Does the breakaway have a smoking section in the haven? On the haven private sundeck?

Thanks

Yes, one small section up on the Haven top sun deck but very few people use it. You can Smoke in the Vibe on the Breakaway but it is an additional expense when the Haven area is next to it. The Breakaway seems very smoker friendly.

You don't get to pick and choose the types of responses that you get. Unfortunately there are still too many smoking areas on all of the ships, hopefully they will decrease the available areas again soon.

As noted by the OP this thread isn't for disagreeing with smoking and how many smoking areas there are. I am sure all us smokers feel there's still NOT enough smoking areas. WHy would you come on a thread about where to smoke to say theres too many?

going on,pride of America, first time on NCL. non smokers, does NCL have balcony smoking ban?

NCL does have a non smoking policy on the balcony. We were on the Breakaway March 26th 2017. Many people would still smoke on the balcony but NCL Crew did enforce the policy and would talk to the guest and apply the $250.00 cleaning charge. The Breakaway had the area called the waterfront and on one side of the boat it was a large smoking section. This section was packed at all times of the day and night. I think the area should be larger so it is not all confined to the area by the door. I think it is smart that one side of the boat is smoking and the other side is not. All people paying their hard earned money on a cruise should be able to smoke if that is their choice, same with drinking and relaxing. I am a smoker and I would never smoke in the cabin or on the balcony because it is against the rules. I also don't want my clothes smelling like old smoke. I consider myself a very polite smoker and if you are a none smoker stick to nonsmoking areas.
