A Complete Guide for New Smoking Areas on NCL vessels

I see you have been a member of CC 4 months. If you want to have some fun go type in smoking in the search heading. This is one of the most hashed subjects from the past. Remember not every couple that sails together are non smokers. Some the DH smokes and DW does not and so on. Carnival had a ship that was smoke free. Ask them how that worked out. Every cruise was cut to the bone price wise to fill the ship. Every passenger has rights so try to remember that on your next cruise please. PS look for me in the Cigar bar 17 Oct on Getaway. Have a nice day.

Just wanted to say I thought your reply was great! I wish there was a "like" button lol

While I do not mean to stir up controversy, NCL should make all of its ships non-smoking.... Just like airlines, passenger trains, bus lines and many cities have done in restaurants, parks, etc...... Even with designated areas, many passengers ignore the designations and smoke wherever they want, even near the kids pool on the BA which is plain wrong.

Even though I would agree with this post and would love smoking to be banned completly from everyday life and cruise ships since it is a really bad habit and has many health issues involved including second hand smoke for innocent people. I do think there should be space for people to inhale their urges on the ship since it is a long trip

But on the other hand it doesn't feel right being in the casino playing without that smoky smell in the atmosphere.

I'm interested in your experience regarding smoking on the Breakaway. My husband is a smoker & has never cruised. I'd like to find a cabin convenient to smoking sections. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

On Breakaway, you can smoke outside at Maltings bar (deck 8), in the casino (designated smoking/nonsmoking sections), one small enclosed smoking area near the pool, one of the pool bars and there's also a designated cigar room also on deck 8. No smoking on your balcony.

Before I forget:

Sky

Deck 12 aft over the Great Outdoors

Deck 11 port side of the pool bar and

port side of pool deck forward

Deck 7 casino

Deck 6 promenade ashtrays are along the walls port side, may be starboard as well, just didn't get out that way.

With the utmost respect - this thread is asking where one can smoke. Do you honestly think that anyone cares that you want the ships to be non-smoking? Not on this thread! LOL

As you had no information as to where one CAN smoke was there really a need to throw your 2 cents into this, which you knew WOULD stir up controversy.

Want to talk about non smoking NCL ships...start your own thread....and I promise not to show up there and tell everyone that they should be able to smoke and where the CAN smoke. BTW, there are non-smoking cruise lines.

Well said Harriet. :D

This is not the thread to add your .02 about whether you think it's right or wrong to smoke. It's meant to be a thread to information those that DO smoke where to go to follow the rules OR for those that DON'T smoke, the places to avoid. There's hundreds of other threads out there to join to debate the issue of whether or not there should be smoking.

The posters statement comparing to buses, airplanes and so on is laughable...since you are only on any of them for several hours compared to being on a cruise for days-weeks. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

Smoking areas on the Escape:

Outside:

* 5 O'Clock Somewhere Bar on the Waterfront (deck 8 Starboard) - very large area outside with plenty of tables and chairs, you can get there both from the Tobacco Road Bar and the 5 O'Clock Somewhere Bar. Partly with a roof, so you are protected from the "elements". :)

* Spice H2O: Several tables near the bar (deck 17 aft)

Inside:

* The Humidor - entrance from the Tobacco Road Bar on deck 8 starboard.

NOTE: There is absolutely NO smoking in the casino, because of the open design to the surrounding areas!

Most of deck 7 is smoking. You will see an ashtray on the wall where you are allowed to smoke.

Deck 13 outside of Moderno is a smoking area. Deck 13 on the port side..forward of the pool area is a cubby area for smoking.

Deck 12, port side had an area of tables with ashtrays.

We sailed on the Jewel in May to Alaska, my mom, daughter and I. Fell in love and now sailing on the Jewel next Oct. to Mexico with the entire family. We have 2 family members who are major smokers...so, can I ask..I had seen the cigar bar...can you smoke cigarettes in there as well? And while I was in casino, can't remember if there was smoking there as well???

I forgot to mention the small bar situated outside on deck 18 (?), the one you can see above the pool deck in this photo from CC member "eroller". It was allowed to smoke there as well. I don't find this bar on the deck plans from the ship, I am probably looking in the wrong area....

That bar is actually on Deck 17 forward, above the pool deck.

Also, if you are in the Haven, you can now smoke on deck 19 forward (Our first three days on the TA, we were told no smoking in Haven, but after many complaints, they gave us back the forward area).

Has anyone been fined the $250? Is it per day, per person or once for the whole cabin if you smoke on the balcony?

I have some friends we cruise with that only book a balcony so they can smoke out there so I doubt they won't do it for just $250 but maybe if it was a steeper fine.

Have no idea HOWEVER, they *could* be escorted off the ship for not following the rules they agreed to in addition to being fined if it happens more than once.

Thanks for posting this Anita, we are on the new ships in winter 2017 .

And I am pretty sure Ad is still smoking by then.

Say " hou-do" to your husband from us

Anyone off Breakaway recently that can list the area's and also Haven smoking area's on this ship??

We were aboard Breakaway last week (November 1, 2015).

Smoking Areas:

Deck 7 Outside, Starboard side, tiny wall mounted ashtray, right before shuffleboard. Inside casino (didn't gamble, so not sure which were designated smoking areas).

Deck 8 Waterfront, Starboard side. Malting's Bar (no smoking while sitting at the bar), 2 wooden barrels with ashtrays, surrounding seating just forward, and all the way aft outside Fat Cats. At Maltings bar outside, coffee, hot water, tea and Danish provided here in the mornings.

Deck 15 Waves Pool Bar and enclosed smoking area across the deck starboard side.

Deck 17 Vibe Beach Club (need a pass) starboard side, forward (and adjoining public bar) smoking allowed on one side of bar.

Sorry, can't help with Haven areas.

Have a great cruise!

From ncl website

What about smoking on the ship?

As the health and well-being of our guests and crew is of the utmost importance, Norwegian Cruise Line will institute changes to its smoking policy for all sailings on or after November 1, 2014. The specific changes prohibit smoking on stateroom balconies and limit smoking in the casino to players. On Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Breakaway, smoking on The Waterfront will be permitted on the starboard side, except by the outdoor dining areas.

Guests in the Garden Villas may smoke in their private garden and on their private sun decks.

Public areas throughout all our ships are smoke-free. If you smoke regular or electronic cigarettes, you can do so in designated areas only. If you prefer pipes or cigars, you can smoke in the Cigar Bar or designated smoking lounge. Smoking cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, cigars and pipes is permitted in outdoor public guest spaces and open decks where designated by the ship's management based on the ship's specific characteristics and arrangement. Smoking, including electronic cigarettes, is prohibited in or near venues serving food, the jogging track, outdoor sporting venues, The Haven outdoor areas and children's pool areas. On ships with The Waterfront, smoking is permitted on the starboard side excluding any food service areas. Active Casino players may smoke cigarettes in the Casino during gaming hours. Cigarette smoking is not permitted in any other indoor venue or location.

Guests are not permitted to smoke cigarettes, e-cigarettes, cigars or pipes in their staterooms or on their balconies. Cigar and pipe smoking in staterooms and on balconies is prohibited. Smoking inside your stateroom or on your balcony will result in a $250 cleaning charge added to your onboard account. If cigarette burns on furniture, linens, towels or carpeting are detected; guests will be advised and charged for the damages.

Electronic cigarettes cannot be used in public areas where there is a No Smoking policy in force; simply because these cigarettes look so realistic and therefore other guests' perception is that we are not enforcing the No Smoking rule.

So cigars are limited to the smoking / cigar lounge....no upper outside decks (on the GEM)?

I know that on some ships the cigar lounge is no longer inside but outside at the pool bar that is on the deck above the pool deck - at least on some Jewel class ships (like the Pearl and the Jade). I am not certain if that is the case also on the Gem.

At least this was my experience on the Pearl and the Jade in 2014 - before NCL changed the smoking policy. So the situation might be different also on these two ships now.
