Hi .. we will be on Celebrity Solstice in December from Auckland to Sydney. I imagine that the ATM will dispense US dollars even though the ships currency will be on Australian dollars ... is that correct ... or am I still confused?. I would like to bring some US dollars for tipping bar staff and am not sure if better to get money from the arm and change to small bills at the casino or bring it with me ... although I would have to purchase US dollars from a currency exchange here in Australia. Thanks. Suzi.

I don't think solstice currency on board is Aus$ pretty sure it's US$.

Staff will be happy with tips in Aus$.

We usually spend $50-150 at each port. You can't possibly go on a cruise and bring no cash. We bring about $1000 and always have some left over. We don't gamble

In your opinion, right?

I bring a small amount of cash with me but I never spend the amounts

you are referring to in "every port"...some places I haven't spent a

dime.

I would be very surprised to see the ship's currency on Australian dollars. I believe all of Celebrity's ships are on USD regardless of where in the world they are cruising.

We bring cash. Sometimes a whole lot of it. I don't want to mess with figuring out the money on vacation. That's part of my whole vacation prep.

We need small bills for tipping before we even get to the ship. We tip the guys who take our luggage onto the ship.

Most of the excursions we take prefer cash. We never book excursions that require a fee ahead of time. I don't want to have to go to Guest Relations the first thing on a cruise and withdraw cash. Never have used an atm on the ship or in a port.

I may be kind of "old school" but I put the exact cash in a marked envelope for each tour and I just bring those with me from home. Those stay locked in the safe until the morning of the tour. We have extra cash for tips. Usually $5 to $10 for a half day tour, $10 to $20 for full day (I read that somewhere and that seems to be the *right* amount). A couple dollars for the driver.

We bring some singles for tipping at the elite cocktail party (we just like to) and for tipping other people. Once or twice during the cruise if we need to, we get change from Guest Relations. We used to bring $2 bills but read somewhere that they weren't as popular because they're so rarely used and *some* think they're not real. We always always tip in cash to the room steward and assistant, the butler, and the wait staff.

In the Caribbean we use US dollars. Elsewhere we buy the currency we need ahead of time. Best rate we ever got was actually from our AAA people. Who knew they give hotel discounts, car rental discounts, AND currency exchanges at great rates?!! I certainly didn't. :o

We generally bring a couple hundred dollars in cash with us and possibly couple hundred in Euros if Europe. The car service we use in Rome requires payment in cash at time of service or PayPal in advance. We usually opt for cash payment.

We do tip extra in cash for exceptional service, but do not do this until last evening of the cruise and then Thank the individuals personally.

With the world of Credit Cards about 95% of what we spend is done on the cards. I always like to have a bit of cash for those occasions where credit cards are not accepted.

I spend ZERO cash once I get on a ship. Celebrity bills itself as a cashless cruise line, and bills me automatically for gratuities in advance, so I'm all set.

I never felt I was getting any worse bar service by not bribing, er, uh, tipping extra.

If I gambled, I'd bring cash for that, but otherwise, I spend no cash. If I host a gathering, I add an extra tip to my SeaPass account for the butler at Guest Services.

On shore, I spend with credit card as much as possible, but do of course carry a hundred or so with me for those times where cash may be needed.

I'm a mile whore and want all my credit card points I can get, to help pay for the next cruise, so spending cash is my enemy!

!

Agree with this completely.

We witnessed a very loud and boring person complaining that he had given a barman $100 tip on first night but still had to wait his turn to be served!

Once the bar person realised the bore had gone he told us that in fact the complaint was not strictly true. " people like that have to wait longer if I can get away with it , they click their fingers at you give a large tip and think they have bought a slave"

Had good fun watching the 'bore' struggling to get served each night and getting more tetchy each time[emoji41]

my CC name should probs be "donttipbuttreatstaffwithrespect"
