How Does It Work When........

We're considering a cruise on The Pride and they say that there's a famous entertainer they're featuring. Is the show an extra charge to attend or first come basis and how many times are there performances?

 

I think the entertainer is Lionel Ritchie on Oct 11th.

It's part of the Carnival Live series. I haven't experienced one myself, but I believe there is a small charge for tickets. Here's a link - I didn't read it though :)

Thanks for the link! $75.pp, if it's available. Kind of sucks for the charge. I got to see if the tickets are refundable if we decide not to go.

The concert is held while in port so sailaway doesn't happen until after 10pm. There are 2 levels of tickets with the VIP ticket also including autographs and pictures.

 

The concerts are in the main theater, but I wouldn't ever go to one and especially not as a VIP.

 

I don't think any of the shops or casino can be open until the ships sets sail, so to me that just takes away a night of entertainment. So you won't see me booking one.

I agree...also, aren't the seats on a first come, first serve basis? $75 each for Lionel Richie to sit at the top of the balcony, if I did not get there early to obtain a seat, to me is a bit much. That would be someone I would go see free at the fair.:rolleyes:

For regular ship entertainment yes, but for Carnival line which features headline performers/groups there is an upcharge.

Now that you asked this question, it made me think. I do NOT recall anyone coming here on the boards raving OR hating the specialty entertainment. I wonder why? :confused:

I would imagine it would be because people aren't going to book this if they have no interest in seeing the artist that is performing. The prices seem to be in line with what we pay for land based concert acts so we would consider this if there was someone performing that we want to see.

This program is in it's second or third phase, so Carnival must see it as a success.

 

Seems I read awhile back that all dates that include these performances sell out.

We had Martina McBride in concert on one of our cruises. I believe both and Meet and Greet and concert sold out. We did not pay to see her, but we did stand outside of the main theater and could see (until they pulled the drapes) and hear the concert.

I guess it depends on what you like. I would gladly and easily pay that and more to see Lionel Richie. He sells out concerts all over. I tried to get tix for him in A.C. two years ago and the one show he did sold out in two hours. So it all depends on what you like. I'm glad to see the Live series add some variety. When it first started, it was just about all country acts. That's fine but it is expanding. I wouldn't book a Carnival live sailing unless I planned to see the entertainer, OR unless I could make plans to benefit from the longer time spent in that port. Would be nice if they offered these on longer sailings. JMO.

Maybe because the people who book these cruises are more into the entertainer and not so much into reviewing a one-off performance for a community that is more interested in other aspects of cruising that have little to do with a "special for a cost" event.

I wouldn't mind seeing Lionel Richie. He had a long career and large fan base and many, many hits. My dh has been in a rock band for the past 34 yrs. Even though this is not the kind of music he plays he respects it and I'm sure he wouldn't mind seeing him.

Thre have been posts and reviews of Carnival Live. There are not many of these that happen (compared to the number of total sailings). I think Carnival is very happy with the success of these. Bands (and sigular entertainers) such Jennifer Hudson, Daughtry, Journey, Kansas, Foreigner, Heart, Stxx, Boston, Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts, Martina McBride and the list goes on. Very popular. While it may not be your cup of tea, it has done more than well. You can use the search button to find some of the review and or posts.

We miss Boston on our next crusie by a week (we booked before they had announced and they are on the next sailing). Would have loved that....and loved to see Journey even more.

I would not pick my cruise because of one of these concerts but I would defiantly book one if it was available on my sailing. :)

My one concern would be that the sailing would be more crowded then usual. I see posts that people say that they hate when there's a group, for example, the Shriners, etc., that the ship is taken over by it and the crowds are worse then usual.

We are getting ready to sail on the Ecstacy. We specifically booked this cruise to see Rascal Flatts. VIP tickets were $250 each so they cost more than cruise. But my husband is a huge fan so this is a once in a lifetime thing for him. We are very excited.

My one concern would be that the sailing would be more crowded then usual. I see posts that people say that they hate when there's a group, for example, the Shriners, etc., that the ship is taken over by it and the crowds are worse then usual.

 

Since Carnival just about always sails full that would not be a problem. When there are large groups on a ship the problem is that the group takes over certain areas. This would not be the same as this is not one large group of cruisers.
