Smoking on RC Navigator of the Seas

I know there is a new smoking policy where you cannot smoke on the balconies anymore or in the bars on the ship. So a few questions....

1. Where exactly can you smoke (specifically), I know there is a basic description, but does anyone know exactly where? I have been searching for a deck plan that shows the areas.

2. How hard do they enforce the balcony smoking? I enjoy my balcony more than anything on the ship, and having a drink and a smoke late at night on my balcony is great.

Please no bashing about smokers, I have seen threads where it is pretty harsh, just looking for real answers to the questions above.

IIRC port side of the pool deck and port side of Deck 5? it is one of the decks the MDR is on and just outside of the access doors at that end of the ship.

DO NOT SMOKE ON YOUR BALCONY.

i repeat DO NOT SMOKE ON YOUR BALCONY.

the rules clearly state that smoking on he balconies IS FORBIDDEN. if you are not willing to abide by that then don't bitch about the consequences later.

I read that the casino and a cigar bar is also available to smoke still? But cannot find anything hard evidence of? Do you know?

Also, thank you for implying I would "bitch" about the consequences later since you know absolutely nothing about me... I have been told that people still smoke on the balconies, and it is a policy that is overlooked...as many policies are overlooked on a cruise ship. Hence why I was merely looking for clarification as to how it really is. If you are unsure of the answer, that is ok. :)

I was recently on RCI Freedom of the Seas with a smoker, so maybe Navigator is similar. FOS had smoking areas with cig disposal ashtrays/cans (easy to spot) in areas all on the port side - deck 4, by pool, up on 12, and smoking areas in casino and I guess cigar bar but we didn't go in there. This person did smoke late at night when the ship was moving so it was windy, on their balcony. never while in port. just be considerate - do not smoke when others are around and always properly ash and dispose of butts, never overboard.

I'm not trying to be unkind here, but if I noticed you smoking on your balcony, I would report you in a heartbeat. Every single time. And if nothing happened, I would escalate the matter until the balcony smoking stopped. There are a lot of people who feel like this, so unless it's 3 am and you are the only one out on a balcony, you're very likely to get noticed and reported.

Thanks for the answers....that helps. I do not and would not want to impose my habit on others around me. I am always considerate of others around me...its funny...that is why I always smoked on my balcony (as I said, usually late with a few drinks), as I do not like to smoke in the public areas unless a bar or casino, especially where kids may be running around...lol

You will always get some negative responses if you post a thread about smoking.

Personally, I would ignore and reply where the poster repeats themselves in block capital letters.

Given that you have simply sought clarification indicates that you are not an inconsiderate person, we have, but no longer cruise with RCL, due to their balcony policy.

That said, I believe that there are several smoking area's on RCL ships.

Have a great cruise.

Today you can still smoke in the Casino and the cigar lounge.. supposedly that may change in the near future.

and YES they DO enforce the no smoking on the balcony rule. and more and more of your fellow cruisers will turn you in every time.

as much as you enjoy smoking on yours I enjoy NOT having to breath it in on mine. your right to enjoyment does NOT supersede mine,.

Please do not smoke on your balcony! Even late at night on a moving ship the smell still travels. You have no way of knowing who else is enjoying a quiet drink, or even a parent trying to calm a child or baby. The rules are there for a reason - lots of people use their balconies in the wee hours. You can go up on deck to a smoking area and sit.

there's no way anyone could smell smoking on a fast moving windy ship. I was sitting right next making sure no smell!

but I don't think ship personnel would ignore it, as mentioned above, if they were aware of smoking on a balcony, that's true.

Sorry, but you are incorrect! Of course people in adjacent cabins, and above and below, can smell the smoke - where do think the smell goes - it doesn't just disappear.

FYI... on our last cruise a couple were "snitched" on about smoking on their balcony and were told one more time and they were off the ship at the first port. We go up on the deck area that is a smoking area to smoke our cigars. Not sure about the casino as there was a rumor not being allowed anymore. Enjoy your cruise.

Really? This is so not true, oh my goodness...

On our last cruise, same thing... a couple who was smoking on their balcony was visited and reprimanded by the Housekeeping Supervisor for that deck (so our cabin steward told us). They do take it seriously.

Asking about smoking on CC is asking for bashing. The cruise lines post smoking policies, but ultimately, you just have to check it out on board because the policies are in flux and also depend on the region of the cruise (ex. Europe vs. Caribbean). RCCI and Princess have pleasant cigar lounges and also deck areas. But again, you will get more flames here than you will get answers to your question and to even ask is futile. There are far more anti-smoking zealots on CC than those who can respond in a reasonable and courteous manner.

in fairness, it mostly got banned due to the major fire hazard it presents.

You have a point, and I thought about that when I was typing. The Star Princess fire happened in 2006, though, and some cruise lines STILL allow smoking on balconies in 2015. And a fair few of those fall under the Carnival parent umbrella, such as HAL, Costa and Seabourn. Other lines in the group, like Princess, have stopped it.. So I was guessing that pressure from insurers was not the only factor.

A very good reply, well said.

I wish I could say you are correct, but you are dead wrong. If someone is downwind of you, they'll definitely smell the smoke.

I'd also point out that often the ship isn't moving at all.

  • 1 month later...

Does anyone know if there is smoking in the casino now? I am thinking about a november 2015 cruise and I will only go on a ship with no smoking in the casino. As much as I like this boat, I am afraid the smoking in the casino is going to kill it.

someone above mentioned maybe the policy has changed in the recent past?

not all Royal ships have gone smoke free in the casino full time. some only do so on Formal nights. or not at all.

Celebrity does not permit smoking in their casinos at all.

Don't forget that this guy is going to smoke a cigar which can be smelled on a ship 10 miles downwind of his. I personally feel that the cigar smoking area should be on a barge towed a significant distance behind the ship. Cigarette smoke is awful. Cigar smoke should be outlawed by the Geneva convention as a chemical weapon.
