On board non refundable room credit? (Newbie question)

Hi all,

 

If you read my question on using cash on board, I apologize for some of the repeat information.

 

Here goes. We're going on a large family cruise to Alaska. There was a promotion where all the rooms have some non refundable room credit. I booked the Skagway railway excursion for myself, my daughter and my son, so my room will have a deficit.

 

My in-laws are giving us all this trip as a gift, so it's all linked to one account. My question is: Can unused room credit on Family member X's room be used toward Family member y's room?

 

Or is it, as I suspect and fear, non transferable from room to room even if it's all linked?

 

Because if it's non transferable we'll sign any drinks or incidentals to the rooms with remaining room credit. Not everyone is going on the same excursions or even going on one at all.

I don't know how much OBC you are talking about, but probably all the OBC will be used up by the auto-gratuity of $11.50pp/day. Adds up quickly. :)

I had no idea this was even a thing! Thank you. Even with that though there might be some left over on some of the rooms (those who don't go on excursions or use the spa).

Not usually , OBC is usually tied to the individual room .

One other thing. This individual OBC that came as part of a promotion. If there is only one Credit Card on file, all the OBC will be on that account. There will be no separation Per Person.

Ok I see the problem. I would check the accounts before the cruise is over and make sure that each room account has used the balance of the OBC. Since it is non refundable, there would not be a credit posted to that credit card for a room with a credit balance. Simply use a key card for the different rooms when purchasing anything to use the OBC credit for each room.

You might double check that this particular type of OBC can be used for the auto-gratuity. Not all OBC can, at least IIRC.

Possibly? your in-laws could go with you to check in and present their card.. don't know.

Or, possibly, you could have the in-laws reserve some of your excursions to their room?? You (they) will get a voucher left in the room for the excursion which can easily be given to anyone.

Just thoughts.. Have a great cruise.

My question was since I used up all my OBC on the excursion, but my brother in law's room has all the OBC because they're not going on anything via Princess, we'd use his key to charge smoothies or wine on?

Onboard Spending includes gratuities... OBC is basically a credit that you begin your cruise with. Any purchases are debited against that credit until it's used up.

Some of the above information sounds incorrect.

On all the cruises we have taken (13 on Princess), we have had a combination of refundable and non-refundable OBC. The non-refundable is deducted first without regard to the current promotion (i.e. for shore excursions or specialty restaurant). When the non-refundable is used up, it will start deducting from the refundable.

At the end of the cruise, if there is any refundable left, you just go to the PAX services desk and request it. If there is non-refundable, you can leave it there:( OR go to the casino and play slots or some other game with it and try to add to it. It didn't cost you anything, so why not:D:D

When you enter your credit card info into the Personalizer, there is a box to check whether it is your card or someone else's card. It does not have to be your card. You just need permission to use it.;)

We are all checking in together. We meet up the night before and go in as a group. So we will have the card used on the booking.

When your FIL fills out the forms on

Princess, he puts in his Credit Card number..

then says all the people who can use it.

It then will be on your room key.

Since all charges will be on one CC, all the OBC

will be deducted from the charges on his bill.

 

When you check in together he gives his CC (usually you don't)

but want to this time and explain that all charges be on one card.

Whoever wants to use the OBC just have them charge their purchases to the account/room that you want to use the OBC.

At the end of your cruise your FIL will receive a final net invoice and attached to it will be his folio and the the 4 others he is paying for. All accounts will be netted to a final amount. If one account does happen to have a credit balance then that credit will be subtracted from any amounts due. It will be a simple addition of credits and debits for all five of you. Nothing to worry about. No need to figure out who has balances remaining.

 

A few days into your cruise your FIL should visit the passenger service desk or one of the kiosks and print out all of his linked accounts and he will see the net amounts as of that day.

Is anyone in your party a veteran they are they should apply for the $100 veterans OBC. That's good for $100 OBC per room.

 

I've never been asked to show my credit card, they simply ask if I want to use the same credit card I booked under.
