I won $5 in the DOND audience (casino pull tab ticket). Every night I watched those on stage win $200-300. On the final night they pulled a ticket and a woman won a cruise. I don't play bingo or frequent the casino but I imagine that's where the big winners (& losers) are found. Isn't there at least one fleet-wide game with a rollover payout?

On our last night on our cruise this year we saw a woman win almost $15,000 on a penny slot machine. She must have been playing max bet to win that much and max bet on some of the penny machines can be a lot. So who knows how much ahead she ended up being ahead for the week.

Someone posted a pic on Facebook of their $22,500 win on a penny slot machine.

I won $1800 for winning the Texas Hold'em tournament on our first sea day in Alaska in 2009, which was nice for a small gambler like me!

I won a HUGE prize on our Family cruise on the Breakaway. I reconnected with my family. No phones, ipods, text's ect... We, did things as a family. Actually sat down for meals together, AND TALKED!!!. I was a wonderful experience. You forget the little things in life with all the distractions of modern living.

I believe that was the biggest prize, at least for us.

I won $1,700 on a penny slot machine. On my last cruise someone won $40,000.

I wonder, if you win that much over International Waters, what's the tax on it. I can only think once you declare it in the custom forms, you'll then report it as regular income? Any accountants here that could answer? :)

I don't know about $40,000 and customs (nice problem to have) but I won a little over $1200 in the Gem casino a couple of years ago and was given the same form you get in land based casinos to report it on your tax return. (Haven't had many of those either. Lol)

On our last cruise some guy won $2,000 on the pull tab and the reason we found out is because he was the 1st contestant in Deal or no Deal and the MC made a big deal about how lucky he was, 1st winning the 2K and then being picked as a contestant. He proceeded to win 25 cents in deal or no deal LOL.

My wife and I were amazed that people had so much luck, we never win anything. One lady was talking to another lady at a different table in the suite restaurant at lunch, so she was loud, and she was telling her how her husband won a free cruise at poker then another $1,000 in the casino.

It seemed everywhere we went people were talking about how much they won etc.

Supposedly, for American citizens, any winnings over $1,000 and Carnival sends out a tax form (1099?). I've never won anything close to that so can't verify.

What a wonderful post.

You, indeed, won the biggest possible prize of all. :)

And what is even better is you know it!!

I don't know the dollar amount but if you win a certain amount, a U.S. taxpayer is supposed to get a 1099 to report the winnings.

I've heard if you win the free cruise,, it is for the book price of the cruise even though most would never actually be paying the full, undiscounted amount for that same cruise.

Our honeymoon was our first ever cruise and we won $1000 on the tab strips they sold at bingo, won $100 at bingo another time, and a del sol bag, t shirt, nail polish and hair accessories set at a pool side gathering of the sun last March. Felt pretty lucky already on our honeymoon but that was a great bonus for us! We also came away form our 11 night cruise up in the casino!

For IRS the tax depends on what tax bracket you are in.

I wasn't aware that you had to declare it on customs forms, unless you have the amount in cash. Then you'd also have to have forms showing origin since it is more than $10,000 in cash.

But usually the casino gives check or gives option of wire transfer to your bank. In either of those cases, nothing to declare for customs.
