Husky1987 Posted June 8, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 8, 2015 Howdy folks, My wife and I have booked the Adventure in September 2016, back to back with Southern Caribbean itineraries for our 10th anniversary. We have one of the aft Junior Suites booked for both, staying on the ship without changing rooms. However, I'm one of those who can't leave well enough alone (I never actually know what I want to order off a menu until the words are coming out of my mouth) so now I'm giving myself all those second thoughts....specifically: I'm thinking about changing the cabin for the second week to a Grand Suite. I've never stayed in any suite on RC, only balconies our outside. I like the idea of staying in the same room over the two weeks and not having to move, and I've heard so many good things about the deck 10 aft JSs and their balconies that we'd be perfectly happy with that. But I'm also intrigued with the idea of changing cabins and "testing" out two different suite types, and seeing the advantages and disadvantages of each. And then being personally able to make those decisions for future cruises whether the increased cost is worth it. The cost difference is about $600, which is a lot but it's our 10th anniversary so we're willing to pay that for an upgrade, if it's worth it. I wouldn't be considering changing cabins unless it was an upgrade (wouldn't do it for a different JS). So I guess at this point I'm just looking for any opinions on the matter....is it really a bother to change cabins in the middle of a back to back? Is the aft JS such a great cabin that upgrading to a GS is not much of an upgrade? Any opinions and input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance! Clarea Posted June 8, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 8, 2015 It's not a huge deal to change staterooms between cruises. You would have to pack up all items that are not hanging in the closet. The stateroom attendants would then move your bags and hanging items to the the new stateroom.
Cigar King Posted June 8, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 8, 2015 Personally I like to keep the same cabin. I would say that on the Adventure I would rather have the aft JS than a GS. I really am not a fan of the GS balcony on the Voyager class, when compared to the aft JS. YMMV. FWIW, we did your exact cruises in December. Very nice. Enjoy your cruise
Rare cruiselvr04 Posted June 8, 2015 #4 Share Posted June 8, 2015 We did a back to back last year. Aft jr suite first week but could not get it for the second so we moved to a side jr suite. No big deal. You don't have to pack your hang ups. It took me maybe 30 min to throw things into a suitcase and a little longer to unpack and settle into the next. We still had time to do the special turn around lunch and got off the ship and walked around the port area in Galveston. Ask your new steward to clean your grand first so you can move your things early. We moved stuff, used the new safe and then left so he could finish cleaning the bathroom and came back later to unpack. Have a great time and congrats on your anniversar! Mrs Cigar King Posted June 8, 2015 #5 Share Posted June 8, 2015 What does your wife think of moving. Cigar King looked into doing just that on the Adventure but I did not want to have to pack and move. Smart King listened to reason.....:D

Cigar King looked into doing just that on the Adventure but I did not want to have to pack and move. Smart King listened to reason.....:D ;) Of course that's the ultimate decision making authority! She actually likes the aft cabin, and we switched from a 9 day GS on the Jewel, I believe it was, to this B2B for 14 days in an aft JS because she liked that idea. She has said she's okay with whatever we end up doing with the second week. In the end we'll probably stay in the same JS....but I'm just a tinkerer when it comes to plans so I'm always wondering if there is something a little better! To all, thanks for the input so far...it helps to have little insights. I know whichever way we end up we'll have a wonderful time!
Grandma Dazzles Posted June 8, 2015 #7 Share Posted June 8, 2015 Grand suite would give concierge lounge access and other perks.
trev71 Posted June 8, 2015 #8 Share Posted June 8, 2015 I hope to do a B2B some day. I would want to stay in the same cabin, packing up and moving would be a pain to me anyways. But a chance at a GS might do it for me.
Starry Eyes Posted June 8, 2015 #9 Share Posted June 8, 2015 Switching cabins is no big deal as crew is so helpful. We really wanted to keep the same cabin the first few times we did b2b. Then we booked a last min nuts set that required us to change cabins. Having experienced moving, we have since happily booked b2b which requires a move (to a better category the second week). So personally, we might well switch cabins if we were in your shoes. Especially if you would not otherwise have lounge access.

They are doing a b2b on AD in Sept....they want to get off the ship on turnaround day... Any idea when they can get off and what time they have to be back on?? Thanks! They will get their new SeaPass cards and in-transit cards the last night of the first cruise, so they can get off with the self-assists. Since they are already checked-in, they have to be back on 30 minutes before sailing. I'd double check that all-aboard time. Clarea Posted July 8, 2015 #15 Share Posted July 8, 2015 Thanks..I was wondering the time frame we are talking about... I would think they could get off the ship 7am-8am. The ship is set to sail at 8:30pm, so I assume all aboard would be 8pm. I would double check that, because there is a second muster (first is 5:45pm) for late arriving guests, and I don't recall that time.

I would personally change to the GS for the 2nd week - having had a JS on the aft of the Adventure before there is the metal framework in front of your balcony which blocks some sunlight and is not a terrific view, I.e. You cannot see down to the sea like on Radiance or Vision class ships. Add to that the full suite perks you would get in a GS I think $600 would be worth it. Rare Teeara Posted July 9, 2015 #18 Share Posted July 9, 2015 I'm one of those who would prefer to stay in the same cabin. What's the point of a B2B if you have to pack up at the end of the first week just like you would if you were getting off the ship at the end of a single week cruise? :D

cruisnpat Posted July 9, 2015 #20 Share Posted July 9, 2015 Having done several B2B's I would stay in the JS and use that extra 600.00 as a down payment on another cruise and then probably go for the GS. What ever you decide have a great trip.
looking4info Posted July 9, 2015 #21 Share Posted July 9, 2015 Would not think twice about it. Switch to the GS. The cabin change is simple and painless. As mentioned you also get the suite perks. If you enjoy a cocktail or three before or after dinner the lounge is a great place. Figure 3 drinks per person per night would estimate at around $340. Also throw in the bridge tour, reserved seating etc. Great way to celebrate the anniversary. Well worth the extra $
Thoie Posted July 10, 2015 #22 Share Posted July 10, 2015 I'm one of those who would prefer to stay in the same cabin. What's the point of a B2B if you have to pack up at the end of the first week just like you would if you were getting off the ship at the end of a single week cruise? :D I'm hemming and hawing about this very thing at the moment, but mine is more mundane. I've got a 3 night trip backing onto a Transatlantic (13 nights). At the moment I've got the same inside cabin for both. I could technically upgrade to a balcony for the transatlantic for not that much more than I was originally going to pay. For the first 3 nights I could just live out of my suitcase and not really unpack (if I packed well in the first place and kept toiletries, clothes and underwear for the 3 nights on top). Risk - there's bound to be something I decide I want that involves rooting through the rest of the suitcase. Then there's the question as to whether I really want a balcony at all. In the past I've barely used a balcony on TAs - so maybe I'd be better off saving the trouble of moving and use the money in the casino instead :)

You have to be back on in time to attend the muster drill whatever time that is. All passengers have to attend the muster drill at the atart of every cruise. That is correct, but Adventure out of San Juan has two muster drills. One is at 5:45pm or so for the majority of guests, and another is later for guest that arrive after the first muster drill.
