allyman Posted July 27, 2015 #103 Share Posted July 27, 2015 So the aussie dollar issue is not an issue in our experience. We book the cruise itself in Aussie dollars and know exactly the price that we have to have saved up by final payment. We love the Royal loyalty program which is reciprocal on Celebrity. You must do what is the right fit for you though. Hello there, On our last RCI cruise we were interested in booking a further cruise on Celebrity Solstice but we were told the loyalty points we had accrued couldn't be combined with any points we may earn if we sailed with Celebrity. I know they are the same company and I was a bit bummed by that, so I have steered away from looking at Celebrity. But if I understand you correctly they do count? Or are you sahing any bonuses you have earnt on RCI can be enjoyed on Celebrity perhaps? If you could clarify I would be most appreciative. gaechann Posted July 27, 2015 #104 Share Posted July 27, 2015 We all are well and truly hooked. After looking at my future cruises booked I'll admit to being ADDICTED! These balcony for inside Royal prices along with my loyalty discount for balconies are proving irresistible at the moment! If later on the dates don't work for me then I can just cancel and get my deposit refunded within a few days - Happy days! :) Gae

They recognise each other's loyalty levels, except for the base and highest levels. So if you're at least Platinum in RCL, you could contact them and they will transfer you to an equivalent status in Celebrity. However, the programs and earnings themselves are separate. So points you earn on each will only accrue to the relevant program you sail on, not to the other.

So points you earn on each will only accrue to the relevant program you sail on, not to the other. I did not even need to contact them. As my levels moved up in Royal when I logged in to Celebrity they reflected the equivalent level there. This only works up to elite/diamond levels. After that you need to accrue the appropriate points on the individual cruise line. I am diamond on Royal and Celebrity shows me as elite although I only have 120 points rather than the necessary 300.
Cruzbear24 Posted July 28, 2015 #107 Share Posted July 28, 2015 It appears it is a technical glitch as this time (different person) went to process the payment and could not. He is investigating as to why and will get back to me but at least it is on record that I wanted OBC. If RCI drops the rate further, I have a fighting chance of still getting the $0.78 rate. Will find out next week. Bought some OBC today and RCI have dropped their rate to $0.77. Got USD $700 obc for AUD $910. Fondly remember the 1:1 at the beginning of the year. 😂

icat2000 Posted July 28, 2015 #109 Share Posted July 28, 2015 If the Australian dollar really continues to drop I will seriously look at my cruising on non Australian dollar lines. Everything will have to be factored in. From April 2013 it has gone from $1.10 down to now at $0.73.

I would be using 28 Degree? TIA

It went on my mastercard but it doesn't show up as a cash advance. Did the same way in Jan for our March NZ cruise and no fees incurred ( that was at $1 to $1). Rare MicCanberra Posted July 28, 2015 #115 Share Posted July 28, 2015 The dollar dropping is not great but it is what it is. Prepay anything now that is in another currency and you can maybe not spend as much as it will cost later.

I'm only doing a 3 nighter but figure I'll buy some extra cash now if their rate is better and withdraw that before I disembark to use on my American holiday next year. Another quick question....I assume I can redraw the obc at the pursers desk with no fee because I've prepaid. Is this still correct? (I know travel agents obc would incur a 5% fee). TIA. Yes, they'll quote you the rate. It was US$1 to AU$1.30 when I bought mine. Current exchange rate is US$1 to AU$1.37. I think any remaining gets credited back to your credit card. Not sure about cash, sorry.

Rare MicCanberra Posted July 29, 2015 #120 Share Posted July 29, 2015 (edited) Taking cash out (OBC) really depends on which cruise line it is. X charges the 5% in the casino but as far as I know RCI doesn't. Edited July 29, 2015 by MicCanberra

I was unable to withdraw refundable OBC in cash from guest services on Rhapsody but was able to on Quantum. I was able to withdraw both types of OBC on both ships from the casino but was charged 5% each time.

I asked the same question in the other thread for the same reason, a Vegas trip early next year. I ended up emailing Celebrity Special Services and received an email back stating any unused credit can be refunded as cash with Guest Relations when on board. The way I figure it is that at the moment $AU32.40 buys $US25 with Celebrity, current rate would buy $US22.57 from ANZ. Even with the 5% hit I am in front and further if the dollars drops between now and my trip. Only issue I can see is the cash limit Guest Relations might impose, might not be too happy giving me $US2000 in cash.
