Sailing from N.Y on 8/29 what is the best way to dress that day?

Jeans are always fine in NYC. Tourists will wear shorts, but in Manhattan which is the business capital of the world men still wear suits even if it's 95 degrees out.

They're fine, but hot. DH wears a suit to work year round, but shorts when home in the summer. It's a vacation!

Now, that's a serious first world problem for hard-core CC to help out ...

OP, will be you arriving by stretch limo to impress (nobody care or notice it, not those inside the pier doing the check in ... are you checking into Haven ?

Which ship - the Z gangway path can be long & the incline can be a challenge for those with high heels :D

Slacks are qually acceptable compared to Bermuda shorts ... insect repellent is optional due to the possible West Niles

For sun protection, straw hat for shades & to stay cool - outdoors, that is. As always, check WeatherUnderground first

If that's your embarkation day, don't worry. You will see everything. People may have been driving to the port for 5+ hours, others living out of carryons. You will be fine in most anything you're comfortable in.

Thank you everyone who left sensible replies....I was just concerned that it would be chilly when we set out to see at that time of year!!

It's definitely still very warm end of August in NYC. It may be breezy at sail away, but I'd say a warm breeze, not chilly at all.

A better question for you. Sailing out of Cape Liberty 12/12/2015 on the Anthem.

Shorts or parka's with ear muffs for standing on deck during sail-a-way.

Not only is it warm now but September is predicted to be higher then normal this year. The current 10 day forecast has the 26th high at 84. NYC high is usually 2p to 4p in August.

Depending on cloud cover and how much cooling at night the city gets also effects how hot it is the next day.

Further out 29th is predicted high 87 low 70 Sunny 20% chance of rain.
