reallyitsmema Posted September 4, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 4, 2015 Are there any advantages to pre ordering dinner wine on RCL versus on board in the MDR. No, not really. Also be aware that you may now carry on two 750 ml bottles of wine per cabin.
cb at sea Posted September 4, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 4, 2015 No advantage at all. The wine is WAAAAY overpriced. I drink wine at home, but on the ship, I'll stick with cocktails or beer...more "bang" for you buck. Their wines aren't great or cheap!
avn2525 Posted September 4, 2015 #5 Share Posted September 4, 2015 You can carry 2 750mL bottles of wine per cabin and you can take them to any bar or the dining rooms and there is no longer a corkage fee! They are more than happy to open them and pour them for you. They even gave me a clean glass to take with me after dinner since I told them I wanted to take the bottle with me to enjoy later. FP1969 Posted September 5, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted September 5, 2015 Appreciate the quick responses. Yes I was aware I could carry on 2 bottles of wine. That will only last a few nights at dinner. May as well wait till I see the evenings menu before ordering wine. Markup seems to be about 3 or 3 1/2 times the cost of a bottle at home. About 5 years ago RCL used to offer several different wine packages that seemed more reasonable. If I remember correctly the price came out to be less than $30 a bottle with some very good selections.

Slightly different than the Wine and Dine but with good offerings/pricing for the package. In March, on Radiance, they also offered a 20% discount on two different bottles each evening in the MDR. Aussie FF Posted September 5, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 5, 2015 There is a disadvantage. We found that the wine we like to drink was cheaper to buy by the bottle. Under the old wine package. Cheers

It is true that the percentage markup is less on a more expensive bottle of wine. For example, Caymus Cab is around $88 on the ship, and around $70 to $80 retail. Oberon Cab is around $20 retail and in the $40's on the ship.
