The life lesson for the 12 year old is that games can be designed to be harder to win than they appear, even to the point of unfair/impossible to win. Fine to believe you may have won if the game had been fair....but fair or not, the boy did not win the game. Fine to complain to the cruiseline of one feels the game is unfair. Fine to tell others on cruise critic that the game seemed unfair....few here are apt to be surprised if the big prize is impossible or nearly impossible to win.

I am very disappointed with the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line because of their customer service. When I was enjoying myself in the arcade I won an IPad Mini. But it was TAPED TO THE SIDE OF THE CONTAINER so no one can win it. I took pictures---couldn't believe it!!! When I contacted the casino staff who supports the arcade, they did NOTHING. Then I contacted customer service/guest services, they did nothing, then I wrote a letter to corporate. They did nothing but sent me what I learned was a "form letter." All the cruise seemed like buy buy buy along with an "infomercial." Their new ship should be called the nickel and dime of the seas. Next time we cruise, I’m going to get my family to cruise with another company.

The title of the thread says he is Diamond. Not sure where the plus got added, but either way, such status has nothing to do with the arcade game. Maybe if he had been to many carnival rather than many cruises, he'd have expected rigged games. The boy says he "won" in his first post (right before he says nobody could win).

In reading the whole paragraph, I took it that he left a word out......I read it as "I was enjoying myself in the arcade thinking I won an iPad" (because the next sentence was about how nobody could win it)

So yes it does say that........but the point was it was taped to the machine and NOBODY was going to be able to win it.

I still don't see where he (or mom) says anything about Diamond Plus. Anybody want pipe in that posted he was Diamond Plus??? (and yes I agree......that really doesn't matter what "status" you are....but to try and gig them for "Diamond Plus"?)

Respectfully, but are you sure this is the place you want to teach your child about how to conduct himself on the Internet? Would you shove him into the middle of a bar full of adults to perform a political protest? Are we supposed to be impressed/moved/overwhelmed by cuteness?

 

Rather than teaching your kid that yelling until he gets his way is the way to go, this would be a great time for a very important life lesson: the game is almost *always* rigged, and the people who rigged it don't care how loud you yell.

He wrote that he won it. Maybe he left a word out or maybe he really believes he won it. Either way, he wrote it...that answer your earlier question.

 

 

The boy says nobody could win it due to the tape. You seem to fully accept that as fact. I am willing to accept that there is tape, but we do not know anything about the tack of the tape vs the force of the machine. Hypothetically, one could use a weak tape such that a strong hit from the correct direction could dislodge the prize (winner) while all other hits end in a loss. Does the boy really know if the game designer carefully planned and tested to tape to allow he rare win or not? Clearly the game is harder than it first appeared; maybe a win is just highly unlikely or maybe it is impossible. Either way, the boy lost his money; if he is same the will learn a life lesson.

So, now we've gone from he won it (his own words) to he would have won it and now to he should have won it. Seriously? My kids and grandkids (one an Eagle Scout btw) were taught to be truthful and honest. To say that many arcade games are rip offs may be true but this is not what either of you said. If telling things like they are is nasty, then guilty as charged.

I cannot understand how anyone can say this child is horrible. He is stating what happened to him and I must say he expressed himself very well. A spoiled brat? why because he has had the opportunity to go on 12+ cruises. At his age I wish that I had the same opportunity. It is an opportunity that I am giving to my grandchildren. Does that make them spoiled brats? They have not yet reached the level of diamond but will soon. And spoiled brat they are not. When he says "they didn't do anything" what does that mean? Did they just give him a blank stare at guest services or did they tell him "we don't control those games" or what? What did the form letter say?
