12 year old Diamond cruiser that received no respect!

Recommended Posts

And sorry, I still don't understand how Sammy can claim he won the iPad mini; if the answer was already stated, I didn't see it...

.

The game he was playing should allow the prize to drop if the lights line up. He's saying that the prize was taped so even when he won, it wouldn't drop. It is shady, and the poor kid probably dropped $50 trying to win an outdated iPod mini..but I agree with the earlier poster who pointed out its a life lesson that playing those games will never win you much of anything. Still if RCCL knows it's happening they should remove the game. But none of us has that kind of power or we'd all be cruising for free.... [emoji6]

Many people here have signatures with two peoples names, two people in the avatar photos; etc. I see no difference here and am at a loss why you are singling this person out.

letting a pre teen post is against policy. and having two names or 2 people in a picture does NOT MEAN that 2 people are sharing a single account..and those that do are very clear about who is commenting each time. it confises things otherwise.

had Mommie come on here decrying the injustie on behalf of her son it would be one thing. having a child do so regardless of how 'well spoken' they are is another.

I'm fairly certain he didn't know it was taped until he knocked over the box and it didn't fall.

Just another Saturday night on CC! Sorry, kid, but, as your parents can teach you, games like that are rigged. I'm sorry you thought you won and then you didn't. I hope you continue cruising your whole life, I wish I was cruising when I was 12! :D

A difference without distinction IMO

I just don't understand why anyone would defend RCI or who ever owns the machines for taping the iPad to the side. It's just wrong.... there is no explaining or justifications needed.

there is no definitive proof that that is the case though..I sure as hell cannot discern anything from the two pictures that were supplied.

sure the kid may THINK or BELIEVE that is the case.. but NONE OF US CAN SAY FOR SURE if it is let alone automatically assign blame or culpability upon Royal for permitting it or condoning it.

Yes I read the thread and there are a lot of adults that should be 100 percent ashamed of how they responded here. It is just plain awful.

Right? Almost makes you wonder why the parents shoved their little darling (who does, after all own a MUCH better iPad already, as he told us) into a forum full of cranky adults! After all, this reaction was completely unforseeable.

And of course everyone is definitely who they say they are online.

*IF* the package is taped up that means the game is rigged so as to be impossible to win. If that's the case it's not really defensible. If a subcontractor owns or operates the game Royal certainly knows how they operate it. The casino, spa, and shops are run by vendors but if they do shady business that does not absolve Royal of all responsibility.

Now, we all know those claw game arcade machines are rigged to only win a set amount of times. That's one thing. On a ship casino and or games of chance are not regulated the same as on land. Okay. Fine. Take your chances. But if the game is purposely set up to where it is not possible to win that is not a defensible position. Why would Royal allow or condone that from a vendor? It's just bad practice.

Respectfully, but are you sure this is the place you want to teach your child about how to conduct himself on the Internet? Would you shove him into the middle of a bar full of adults to perform a political protest? Are we supposed to be impressed/moved/overwhelmed by cuteness?

Rather than teaching your kid that yelling until he gets his way is the way to go, this would be a great time for a very important life lesson: the game is almost *always* rigged, and the people who rigged it don't care how loud you yell.

This has got to be the most bizarre thing I've seen on a reliably bizarre site.

💜 this.

Just when I think I've seen CC at its lowest... I'm proven wrong. Sanctimonious adults name calling a 12 year old... Surely I've seen it all now.

I think I know the game he's talking about. There's an arm that you have to line up with a hole in the plexiglass, if you line it up just right the arm goes through the hole and pushes the prize down where you retrieve it. I've seen these games on ships. What he's saying is that he got the arm through the hole, but the iPad mini was taped to the inside of the wall so that the arm wasn't able to push it through to fall down to the collection area. That's how he "won" it (got the arm through the hole) but the game failed to give him his prize because of the tape.

We had an issue on the Liberty in June. My daughter played various games the entire cruise trying to build up tickets to buy some chair stacking game. (Yeah... $80 or so for a $4.99 game... I know). Anyway, she finally got enough points and went to redeem at the redemption machine. She hit the correct button, but the door didn't unlock. It deducted the points from her account, but the door just didn't unlock so we could grab the game. I found a Voyagers counselor and asked him to call someone, which he did. Said it would be a few minutes. It was actually about 90 minutes, but we waited until the guy came. He was the casino maintenance guy too, so I can understand that the arcade probably wasn't his first priority. Anyway, he manually open the door and DD got her chair stacking game.

So at least on the Liberty, Royal staff do manage the arcade to some extent.

For those posting on this thread, you should google 'games of chance' such as keymaster, the claw or stacker, which are legal in most places. They are games of chance and not skill. The ipad being referred to is probably an empty box referencing what is possible to be won, however on these machines, the probability of winning the main prize is practically zero until a particular number of games have been played on that machine . the exact number will be set in the machine, say 800 or 2000 etc.

The legality of these machines is questionable , however most states and locations consider them legal as they are games of 'chance.'

Sometimes it is advisable for an 'adult' to first read the rules for the particular game before letting children play them with false hopes.

The way I read it, Sammy won the game but didn't receive his prize. Kinda like winning the race but not getting the medal.

Whether or not Sammy knew it was taped down, and whatever the prize may be, it's still pretty shady of the video game owner/operator/contractor to knowingly rig or manipulate a kids arcade game.

Huh, this thread is something different...

12 year old feels disrespected by the adult staff of a corporation. He is by the way Diamond status, and evidently wants his due.

Mother who has been on Cruise Critic before thought it a good idea to put her 12 year old on here, and is surprised and offended by the response he gets.

A Bill Clinton style debate about the meaning of "win" or "won"

A sprinkling of name calling aimed at a 12 year old.

And yet oddly similar...

Cruise critic members questioning the legitimacy of the OP.

A variation of the claw game that is found to be a rip off.

The topic of the thread isn't the problem, this is a PSA to warn others, forget the title.

Cruise critic respondents tear apart each individual word of posts, and throw out some insults.

OP gone, but debate lives on.

Very good point. This was not a type of claw machine, as I had been thinking, this was a key machine. Basically akin to a slot machine.

I did not make this post for me. I could care less about the stupid tablet. right? Yeah I did this so others don't get scammed by Royal Caribbean You just don't realize why I made this. I have enough. I even have a ipad mini. A higher version than in that machine. Why did I play that game? Because it was a game. But taping it so no one wins is unacceptable...

I am in 7th grade we have a huge anti bullying program going on. One reason is because someone KILLED themselves over a online chat board. Other kids did that made him think his life was useless. So for adults to go and do the same thing is unexceptionable. You are adults. Act like it. Not like a 12 year old bully.

just an fyi, its 'I couldn't care less'. To say you could care less means you have a bit of caring left, which is not what you seem to intend.

again, just an fyi. I thought you might be interested in correcting this in the future. I do hope you get some resolution to the issue.

Parents often think their children are more mature than they are in their ability to express themselves.

One thing I remember from teacher training many years ago was that middle school and high school students are not adults when it comes to receiving sarcasm or smart mouthed cracks from adults - they are still children, and even if they ask for it, don't do it.

Children should not be allowed by their parents to post on this board because they have to know how some of these threads flame the OP.

Domino D thank you for trying to bring some sanity to this thread. It really doesn't matter if he's 12, it really doesn't matter if he's D+, it also doesn't really matter if he said he won instead of saying he should have won.

The point is the OP had a problem and wanted others to be aware of it, simple as that. Doesn't matter if he is a "spoiled brat" or had an attitude problem, those two descriptions make up about 95% of the posters on CC.
