OCruisers Posted September 19, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2015 Just wondering if i want to have a glass of wine with my lunch can they serve us before we sail? Yes, no problem! You'll be able to get drinks as soon as you board the ship! :D LuLu

NavyVeteran Posted September 19, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 19, 2015 Although something is usually available, the details depend on the port. If you are departing from a port in Texas, there is very limited liquor service before the ship leaves Texas waters. According to Texas law, any liquor served while in Texas must be purchased from a Texas wholesaler. Princess will purchase a limited quantity of liquor from a Texas wholesaler, and that limited selection will be available at a few bars only. Also some states require state sales tax to be collected on drinks sold while in port or in local waters, so you may find drinks a little more expensive until you sail. Seems like it has been only recently that the state sales tax has been placed on these purchases.

Happy2cruise Posted September 19, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 19, 2015 This is correct. Seems like it has been only recently that the state sales tax has been placed on these purchases. Were told anything purchased while in port, a sales tax must be charged when when we went to purchase a coffee card. Bartender suggested waiting until after sailing;)
Yensidlove Posted September 19, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 19, 2015 hmmm.... does this mean the AIBP will be charged added state tax if we purchase when we board in Florida?? Perhaps it is best to purchase online through the Princess site prior to sailing in order to avoid paying added taxes?

Perhaps it is best to purchase online through the Princess site prior to sailing in order to avoid paying added taxes? Last year, we purchase our AIBP in San Francisco, before the ship sailed. We were told that they wouldn't run it through until we were out to sea. I checked our bill and we were not charged the sales tax.
skynight Posted September 19, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 19, 2015 Is there sale tax in Florida while in port? On stickers, soda package, coffee package,or ant think else. I can respond to the soda package question. Yes, there is supposed to be a FL State sales tax added. Now, if you purchase at a bar your cruise card will run through and the sales tax will be added to the price. If you purchase from one of the tables that are around the ship you receive a hand written sales slip. Our experience has been that these charges are placed into the system in the evening after sailing and no sales tax is added. You can avoid all sales taxes by waiting until after the ship sails or pre-purchase.

The receipt was the paper one, so they didn't run the card.
