spintowin Posted October 14, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 14, 2015 Do they ask for membership card at check in for cruise or will they accept membership number? Just wondering if anyone has experience using AARP
Ozzie's Mom Posted October 14, 2015 #2 Share Posted October 14, 2015 I've never been asked and dont recall whether I had to give it when making the reservation.
worktocruise610 Posted October 14, 2015 #3 Share Posted October 14, 2015 When I made the reservation with TA I had to give membership number. Not sure about check in, this is the first time I've used it, but good question, I'll need to remember to bring my card. Thanks for asking this, hadn't thought about it ;)
deladypilot Posted October 14, 2015 #4 Share Posted October 14, 2015 We used AARP on our last cruise. No one ever asked for our membership number. Not when we booked nor when we checked in but we took it with us just in case

Just wondering if anyone has experience using AARP We had to give membership number when booking the cruise to get the AARP discount, but that was all. Never had to show the actual card. Shellbelle28 Posted October 14, 2015 #6 Share Posted October 14, 2015 (edited) You just have to provide your number when you book to receive the AARP discount, nothing after that. Edited October 14, 2015 by mbuenzli
ljrfrm Posted October 14, 2015 #7 Share Posted October 14, 2015 I've booked two cruises this year with our PCC and received the AARP discount both times. I never had to give a number or show a card, or show in any way that I actually belong to AARP. I brought the card just in case, but didn't need it. roger001 Posted October 14, 2015 #8 Share Posted October 14, 2015 I've been asked for my AARP membership number when booking. That's it.
cruisecrazy82 Posted October 14, 2015 #9 Share Posted October 14, 2015 NCL verifies your membership through AARP simply by using your name, DOB, and zip code. If not a valid member and you are booked under an AARP rate they can and will adjust your rate and remove the discount.
pspercy Posted October 14, 2015 #10 Share Posted October 14, 2015 I've never been asked and dont recall whether I had to give it when making the reservation. I didn't, I volunteered the membership number and she said she didn't need it:)
NMLady Posted October 14, 2015 #11 Share Posted October 14, 2015 I've booked two cruises this year with our PCC and received the AARP discount both times. I never had to give a number or show a card, or show in any way that I actually belong to AARP. I brought the card just in case, but didn't need it. They probably looked up your membership from your name. That is what our former PCC did for one of our cruises.
Rare LMaxwell Posted October 14, 2015 #12 Share Posted October 14, 2015 Same experience as others; just provided number at booking and was not asked for card at check in. Was advised that the member number would need to be valid on the sail date, not just the booking date.
cmdchiefthom Posted October 14, 2015 #13 Share Posted October 14, 2015 I find it interesting when I book, that the AARP discount always go through, buy my military discount never goes through. I sure you can only receive one discount, but I wonder if they are the same amount. My cruise confirmation lists WAVE, AARP, BONUS and SUITEOBC. My PCC always gets me the best deal out there, but I'm just curions.;)
cmsgtwhite Posted October 14, 2015 #14 Share Posted October 14, 2015 Chief, On the cruise I booked a few months ago for the JADE in March 2016, I tried to get a military discount and was told there was none, but then asked about AARP and got $73.00 discount for my wife & I. ($146.00 total). I found it odd that they offered an AARP discount but would not offer a military discount? But what the heck, I'll take it! Gershep Posted October 14, 2015 #15 Share Posted October 14, 2015 I just received an email today from NCL saying that my AARP membership number did not go through for a cruise that I booked 2 months ago. They attached a new confirmation showing the new price without discount. I had to send them a copy of my AARP membership card that shows my name and expiration date. Now I have to wait to make sure they adjust my reservation and give me my discount. It may take a while but apparently NCL does verify your membership. AARP number is usually kept on file for future cruises.
