Unused OBC credited to Credit Card

I've never heard of that happening....

 

I know that if you prepurchase OBC and don't use it all it will be credited back to the card you used to purchase the OBC.

 

The only other type of OBC I know will be refunded is OBC that is given due to itinerary changes (ie 7 day cruise turning into a 6 day)

Having unused non-refundable OBC credited back to your credit card depends on the ship. We just did a b2b on Serenade where we had $3 of non-refundable OBC credited back to our CC.

Wow, I wonder if they had to get Mr. Bayley to sign off on that!;)

Our 5-day to Bermuda became a 5-day to Canada (thanks, Hurricane Joaquin!) and we got a refundable OBC of $1,200. That, plus our TA OBC, and our excursions being refunded, put us up over $1,300 which was posted to our credit card the day after the cruise.

Wow, that is a nice welcome home present. Hope the cruise was good even with the route change:)

oh good to know! I had heard that it's "non refundable". I didn't realize you could get it back at the end if you don't use it :-)

The day prior to debarkation You can just go to Guest Services and request it back in cash. The timing depends on the ship. Some ships allow it anytime of the day and some prefer late afternoon.

Last year we had $100 OBC from RCL that was part of the "YOURWOW" sale (I remember I had to add in the promo code). We thought we spent it all on board but were had just over a dollar left. They refunded it to our credit card.

Yes, Visa points OBC is refundable.

 

I am counting on this happening since I have $450 OBC from my RCCI Visa card to use on a Repo Cruise that leaves on October 25th from Boston. My DH and I rarely spend much onboard so we will have fun blowing this money but if we run our of ideas on spending it, I have heard that you can cash it out on the last day of the cruise at the Customer Service Desk. It will be fun to see how much we have left over after a 13 day cruise.

On our Navigator cruise in September, we had refundable OBC (from our Royal Caribbean credit card) remaining at the end of the cruise. As we usually do with leftover refundable OBC, we went to Guest Services after the show on the last night and requested to cash out. Guest Services absolutely would not give us cash; they said it had to be credited back to the credit card on file for our onboard account. That was the first time we'd ever been denied leftover refundable OBC in cash. A few days after debarkation, there was, indeed, a credit back to our Royal Caribbean card for the amount of the leftover OBC.

Ironic, we were on Explorer of the Seas last year October 18th supposedly to a 5 day Bermuda cruise and we got diverted to Canada as well! RCI did very well with OBC for us...however we spent it :p

Generally, yes. However, sometimes OBC from the TA can come from group perks, and is really from Royal, so in that case non-refundable.

The OBC I was referring to, that was refunded to the credit card, was OBC given at time of booking (we book cruises only when we're on-board and never transfer to a TA).

OBC from booking on board is not refundable. However, with that being said, there is no rhyme or reason why some ships refund it and others do not. We have experienced both.

I didn't realize that unused OBC, received when we booked a next cruise while on-board, would be credited back to our credit cards. Has this always been the case? I thought if it wasn't used, we had to cash it out at the casino. :confused:

 

In my case I didn't want to the pay the exchange to put it on my Cdn card so just took it out in US dollars and put it into my US acct when home. A money advantage - more US dollars to spend on my next cruise.
