Using or cashing out OBC?

I was not having a go at anyone, as people can do what they like in regards to spending /cruising. I was actually referring to myself that I do not enjoy being frugal when cruising or holidaying while of course I do not mind being frugal when saving for a holiday or cruise.:D

I prefer to save my spending for when I'm ashore - especially for my trips to Alaska and my upcoming trip to Med/Venice. I don't feel like limiting my spending on board in order to be able to get a few specially chosen things that will mean so much more to me in future years than a few drinks on board makes me "frugal". It makes me someone who chooses to invest in memories rather than food and beverage and casino. :)

As you point out, everyone has different priorities though.

That is why cruising suits so many differing types. Those who like to do nothing and those who are active. Those who spend a lot and those who don't. Those who like to eat in the MDR for every meal and those who don't, and the list goes on.:D

Yep! :)

I wasn't sure about the whole MTD thing, but the more I think about it, the better I like it because I won't feel like I'm abandoning others at an assigned table in the traditional MDR since I'm thinking I'll do most of my EATING in port and basically snack if necessary on the ship.

Those who like to rent out the Flowrider for just two people (me and Frank) :D

While I am not a heavy drinker, I drink champagne and that is what? $12 a pop and if I have a couple of mimosas as breakfast a glass or two later in the day or with dinner, well there ya go, I am up to that $57 a day for the drink package so, cost wise, better for me to have the package and color me crazy, but I like having all of the cruise pictures and the CD (especially if they get some good action shots on the Flowrider). We only go on one cruise a year so we splurge :p

Again, kudos to those who only have one page on their sea pass account at the end of the cruise :p

OP, if you set up your Sea Pass with a credit card to cover charges that exceed your onboard credit and then end up not exceeding it, RCCL will put the credit balance on to your credit card.

At least that is what has always happened to me (last in 2013) and what I was quoted again when I inquired this year when booking this month's cruise.

That is what will happen with refundable OBC- you will lose the non refundable OBC if it is not used and/or taken out at the casino

How do you know if OBC is refundable or not/?Regards Irene and Stan WE have $400 Obc when booking on line.

Generally, any OBC from Royal (or from Royal via your travel agent) is non-refundable. Examples of this would be OBC from booking on board, or from BOGO promos, or shareholder benefit.

OBC from Visa points or drectly from you travel agent is refundable.

If you go to Guest Services and get a printout of your account, it will show which OBC is refundable and non-refundable.

OK I'm a little confused. As per advisors here on CC, I kept an eye on the price of my cruise & when I noticed it had dropped, I called my TA. I received an OBC for the difference for each of us sharing the room. I did not use all of mine. I don't see a NR or R on my statement. Do I have to ask for a refund to my credit card? It is only a small amount $6.20 so it's no big deal & I completed my cruise. If I need to ask, do I ask RC or my TA?

Thanks in advance.

My understanding is there are two types of OBC. The type that you get when you book your cruise is non refundable. So if you get $200 as part of your deal and you only spend $100 while on board, you will not get credit for the remaining $100.

There is also OBC that you can purchase prior to your cruise. This type is refundable. If you are in the US then this is of no benefit to you (unless you want to manage your funds upfront and thus you have already "paid this money"). But if you are Canadian, then it is a benefit to purchase OBC since we get it at a better rate than the current US/CAD rate.

So in the same example, if your OBC came from you buying it, and you had bought $200 and you only spend $100, then you would get credited $100.

If you have both non-refundable and refundable, then it uses up your non-refundable first.

When we got off the Allure on Dec 6, we had spent a total of $67. That's the least we have ever spent. Going into the final night, we had a $10 credit so we decided to upgrade our meal at Izumi (which was the best meal of our cruise) and we had wine with dinner. Originally, we did not have a large OBC to spend, but we did have to cancel two shore excursions so that helped our credit balance, too. One can cruise without spending a ton of money.

Thank you all for your posts and clarea for answering my questions.

I am sailing Indy over NYE and want my OBC in my hand as cash. Some is from RCCL (dont care about that since it will be used for our beverage packages) but want my Visa OBC. So, the easiest thing I need to do is:

*Go to Casino Teller

*Ask for the amount of cash I want

*If they say they cannot do this am I asking for a slot machine voucher or am I going to a table, ask for chips and walk away. I know Ill pay 5 pct.

Seems like a lot of extra work on both sides.

Can someone please tell me what to do about my senerio above?

Thank you.
