If I don't sleep on my 4-day cruise, will it be like an 8-day cruise?

We are leaving on a 4-day cruise from Galveston in 16 days. Wishing now we booked a 7-day cruise, but time off work is the reason we are doing just a 4-day. So DW and I are thinking that if we stay up for the entire cruise it would feel like an 8-day cruise. Any thoughts on what we can do during the wee hours of the mornings? We are not really sure we can endure not sleeping during the cruise, but might as well give it a shot. My DW thinks we will only make it until 10:00 PM on the first night, but I have faith we can do it.

You can help the night cleaners do some cleaning.

I would not recommend this, even after as little as 36 hours without sleep even a cruise would be not enjoyable. I can relate to the military aspect of this article, it is not fun.

Ive done a 3day, 5day and 7day. Sure, a 4-day will feel shorter than a 7-day. But if u get up around 7:00/8:00am and begin your day....and stay up until midnight im sure u will feel like u got the full cruise experience. Relax and enjoy the time u have.

No way it will not be enjoyable to walk around like a zombie.

No. It will feel more like a very exhausting 4 day trip. It will be miserable. A huge part of me going on vacation is to relax and catch up on rest that I normally don't get at home. Being on the go 24 hours a day would defeat that purpose.

But I'll admit that I have partied it up on short cruises before and stayed up all night (although not for 4 days straight), only to return from these mini vacations feeling worse than when I left.

Y'all have given me some good ideas for my 4-day cruise.

1. I have skills with the vacuum, so I'll help out with the late night cleaning crew.

2. Sit by the pool at 2 in the morning, I should have best choice of seats" and I can also help "save seats" for the chair hogs as they come out at 5 AM to claim their recliners for the day.

3. Walking around the decks of the ship as a zombie sounds super cool. This is a must do.

4. We don't gamble and sitting in the casino breathing second hand smoke is not our idea of fun. But spending the night at the Pizzeria sounds fantastic. Of course with as fast as they are, I should be able to get at least two slices in about a six hour window.

5. To make the trip seem like an 8-day trip I will start sleeping 12 hours a day for the next 15 days. Thanks for that great tip!

6. Staying up for countless days in a row, would bring back memories of my glorious days in the Army. I'll bring my old uniform and boots with me to make it feel more authentic.

7. Running a marathon on a cruise, now that's a grand idea! Problem is I may end up losing count of the laps I've taken around the small track. How many laps would I need to take to run a marathon on the ship's running track?

8. If I stay up the entire time and take pictures of what I see. Will my pictures show fuzzy people standing around and strange creatures flying through my pictures? That in itself would be worth staying up for.

9. I wonder if I can get away with not paying the tips as I'll be too busy staying up and won't be using my cabin. In fact, I should be refunded for the price of the cabin as I won't be sleeping in it.

Oh the bonus of staying up. if I stay up for the entire trip I'll probably be so tired and stressed out that I'll need another vacation when I get home! Cha Ching, Winner, Winner chicken dinner! I'll just be forced to take another cruise! It's a win all the way around!

Will be watching to see if on the third or fourth day of a four day cruise. A passenger who appeared to be in a zombie like state fell overboard:eek:. His wife who also looked to be afflicted was nearby setting on the deck drooling and laughing.:D

This post is brilliant! Why pay double to be on the Walking Dead Walker stalker sold out cruise when we could all just not sleep and have the same experience:-)

No I don't think it will be like an eight day cruise because you will be very tired and will not enjoy the cruise. I always enjoy an eight day cruise because it is great to have the one extra day.

cruiseon the brain, and to this post, I rest my case
