What if you don't like your guarantee room?

Recommended Posts

Just curious. Got assigned 3180 on the Oasis, it is an ocean view, which is an upgrade from our inside guarantee. Reading reviews and NO ONE has anything good to say about it because of the disco above it.

Personally, if I fall asleep before the noise or have enough alcohol, a freight train could drive thru the room and I wouldn't know. However, my friend may not feel the same way.

Any advice? Is it really that bad being below the disco? (I am surprised on such a new and advanced ship this would ever be an issue...)

You have three options:

- stay with what you have

- ask to be moved to another cabin within that exact category (if available)

- ask to be put back into the GTY pool and take your chances

You may want to investigate option two above.

Cant speak to the noise level in that particular cabin but I can say that the Disco noise CAN be a problem, it just depends.

We had cabins on Deck 2 near the nightclub on Liberty a couple of years ago, if you opened the cabin door and stood in the hallway it was loud, not painful but loud. If you closed the door and went in the room you could tell anything was going on.

Onboard Disney Dream we received a free upgrade from the virtual portal room we wanted to a verandah. Upgrade was not offered, didn't even know it happened until we arrived to check in at the pier and were "redirected" to our new cabin.

The cabin was directly above the nightclub. At 10pm the music came on and the cabin was shaking like the end of the world. After numerous phone calls and tromping up and down to Guest Services we were moved to a new cabin at about 3am. There is NO WAY we could have slept in that cabin.

So if it worries you I would be proactive in trying to get it dealt with.

I'd definitely try to move to another cat H room. Not only is that cabin below the night club, but it is a connecting room. I've had a connecting room with strangers next to me a couple times, and you could hear the cabin next door through the connecting door as if they were sitting in your room. Maybe the door insulation is better on Oasis than it was for me on Radiance class, but I wouldn't take that chance.

The problem is that all cat H are on Deck 3 and most are below the night club, casino, or Jazz club. So it is kind of a "pick your poison" dilemma. It looks like there are a few non-connecting cat H on the starboard side which might just be below studio B. That might be your best bet.

Can you request to be moved back down to an interior in this case if none of the current category is desirable? I know beggars can't be choosers with GTY's, but can you ask to be downgraded from the upgrade to what you originally booked? I'm not sure, anyone know?

I'm not sure if you can request to be downgraded to a specific category, but I believe they will still allow you to be put back into the guarantee pool.

Why take a gty if you are worried about things.

Call RCI and asked to be switched. They are happy to accommodate. If the agent balks, say "thank you" and call back to speak to a different person. Years ago, we booked a guarantee as there were so many available staterooms. Sure enough, we got the least desirable. We were cheerfully moved ... no problem.

I was booked in stateroom 7100 in what i thought was going to be amazing stateroom on oasis in her inaugural season. It was a forward facing ocean view on deck seven. Floor to ceiling window looking right off the front by the helipad. What they never mentioned to us is that the "crew" night club area is right below the helipad on that ship. With the crew working all hours of the day and night ect there was not a single moment at night when there wasn't floor shaking bass and music that was quite disturbing from inside our room. Now I'm not an old fart who can't understand a party as I was only 25 at that time but when we returned to our room between 2 and 3am usually we wanted some much needed sleep! Impossible! Complained the first night to no avail... Complained the second night and they moved us to a 3rd deck interior for the night which was obviously unacceptable. 4th night no relief. Finally 5th day they upgraded us to a oceanview balcony room. This was great obviously, but I think it was just a little too little too late for us. We did although love everything else about the ship as its a great venue. Went on a 5 year hiatus from RCCL after that, but came back last year and am hooked once again.. Going on the 3rd in just over a year in April. Anyways, moral of my story is that yes, even on the new amazing ships, there are still areas that are completely unfriendly for passenger comfort. Warning to all about those rooms, (forward facing deck seven Oasis class.) Don't expect too much relief from guest services, especially if they don't feel like moving you. Took a ton of complaining.

Since you paid for an inside guarantee and were given a free upgrade to an ocean view, I'm not sure you can change to a different ocean view since that's not what you actually paid for. I'd call and ask to do such, the worst they can do is say no and move you back to an inside cabin.

Thanks for the replies!

Yes, the GTY booking was done because the $$ savings was too good. I have never been too concerned with location, but I would hope it is not unreasonable to expect a quiet room even with a GTY.

Ship shows sold out except for a balcony room that would be very expensive to upgrade into.

With the weather on the east coast and airlines canceling like crazy, I'd bet a handful of rooms are going to open up.... I'll just check on the ship about possibly moving or upgrading.

I had a connecting JS on Oasis and those doors might as well have been made of paper. You could hear normal level conversation.

Most people's experience is that once assigned to a cabin, you can move to any other cabin in the exact category, regardless of what you paid for. Some TAs and even RCI reps themselves would try to say they can't move you, but just be firm with them and they'll get it done.

Regardless of the initial guarantee payment, once the cabin is assigned, you are often able to switch to another available cabin in that assigned category. This is the case for US bookings.

As noted – if one is concerned about the location/deck of their cabin, a guarantee is NOT the way to go.

As for trying to change your cabin once on board, that is generally unlikely. I would try to do so before sail date.

Good luck
