Depending on the hardware and ports, you may not be able to use them legally off the ship.

 

Have you considered using cell phones?

You can use them. Just be discreet. For some reason people seem to yell into them. They are annoying to other cruisers.

you can but finding a clear channel is not easy.

The Caribbean countries all share the same frequencies as US radios, they sell them in Walmart in Mexico.

 

Your question was in relation to the ship, and others went off. Here's the deal.

 

They work, the better quality ones with GMRS and FMRS channels work fine. Fine = about half the range of the ship. Don't expect them to go from deck 2 to the lido deck.

 

We've used them for our daughters younger days cruising on ships ranging from the Celebration to Conquest with decent success. They have a vibrating feature, and that helps with the noise.

 

In ten cruises over the past 20 months I've seen about 5 people using them. I'd wager frustration is trying to use them bow to stern or top to bottom.

Not by yelling into it in speaker phone mode, and in all actuality I don't use it in the ship at all.

Actually we've cruised with all 8 kids and now with 16 grands. Have never needed or wanted to use them.

I almost think that there should be a system limitation that doesn't allow you to resurrect these threads after a certain amount of time has passed.

We used them before the hub app. There was no way to keep track of the kids and also allow them a little freedom otherwise. The hub app is much better than radios though.
