Cabin Changes on Guarantee

This may sound whiny, but I'm not really whining. I know the rules and I lost the bet this time.

I booked guarantee inside "no frills"...very cheap...on the BA for 5/1.

I got a "no frills" cabin (got what I paid for) which, I think may be the worst on the ship. (5102)

Has anyone ever had a guarantee cabin changed (without upgrading)?

There is one available in the same category that is in a better location and, although I'm sure the answer will be "no", has anyone ever achieved this?

If I can't move "for free" I'm going to upgrade to MS. But, I would be happy in that available cabin.

Go ahead and flame me.........:)

Okay, I think you knew the answers ... so I will bypass

Just going to turn on the 3" firehose - what is a MS category cabin upgrade that you otherwise will be paying for ??

Still 3 weeks away, maybe you can play the game & wait until T minus 3 to 5 days out, see what's remaining & contact Upsell and see what they might offer to upgrade, possible for a little less - go ahead, do another bet :D ;)

Guarantee "Free at Sea", because just about all mini suites are mid ship.

I don't drink, am on a very healthy diet, have a private tour booked and like to leave the internet at home.

As far as 5102:

1. Potential for too much noise from above

2. Potential to feel a lot of movement

3. 129 sq feet...prisoners have more room.

I can't think of anything good about the cabin, other than it's on the BA.

I'll be monitoring the prices and cabin availability diligently.

My TA is out right now, but I'm going to call her later so I can hear her laugh at me.

I think you have now learnt a lesson on booking a GTY so far in advance before the cruise.

I booked GTY only twice ... we wanted to go on a last minute (well, less than 2 weeks before) cruise and the only thing they had was GTY. We needed a cruise badly, so we took a chance and went ahead ...

We booked Inside GTY (with 6 days to go) and got a BA cabin on deck 13 (Breakaway CTN).

Second time we booked an Ocean View GTY and got an OA cabin (Gem).

We got lucky.

When I booked it was the last day of the "no frills" sale by travel agents. I didn't know a couple of days later NCL would have the same offer.

Well, I did call the TA who called NCL, and everybody laughed. It seems all the insides are guarantees now anyway.

I'll just wait for the last week and see what I can upsell to. Worst case scenario: ear plugs and bonine.

However, if the insides are so in demand, maybe I'll call the upsell dept. before the last week.

ETA-This is not the first time I booked this far in advance. But, the other times I had better luck.

Way back in 07 on our first cruise we booked a Balcony GTY and about 9 days out we got an assigned cabin. 4 days out the assignment was gone and it listed GTY again, 2 days out we had another assignment for a once in a lifetime upgrade to what they now call the 2 Bedroom Family Cabin. So it has happened but not sure if it is still happening.

I am still hopeful as we received our cabin assignment a few days ago for our Apr 10th cruise so I am watching and waiting for the upsell dept to sell more Balcony Cabins and bump us up. :D

On our POA cruise we booked an inside GTY and got assigned a cabin on deck 10 all the way in the back opposite the aft cabins. Not happy with it, called my TA and she was able to upgrade us free to a OV on deck 5. Still not happy, she called again for us and got us an obstructed OV midship on deck 8 which we were very happy to have, even with them saying it was a downgrade from the OV on deck 5.

I hear you. But from past experience, they used to say no to upgrade unless a full fare of the upgraded room is paid. Now they say NO to paid or unpaid upgrades from GTY staterooms. Period.

Now, you could call and see about the room you mentioned available in the same category but better location. Don't keep the hopes up, but no harm calling. Come back and post your outcome.

If all fails, still enjoy your cruise. The BA has many things to keep you very busy and you may realize that you are only using your room to sleep. Good luck.

But, but haven't you read the threads where people booked an inside guarantee and were upgraded to a Haven Penthose for $100/pp! 😸

As of now, no inside rooms are available in most categories, just guarantee and they won't put me back in the pool.

If.Haven Suites are in the front of the ship, and spa cabins are in the front of the ship, and I'll be lower than all of them, so how bad can the rocking be?

And the noise has to stop eventually, right?

For the record, DH thinks it's stupid to pay more since the ship goes to the same place and the food is the same and the entertainment is the same no matter where you sleep.

Worst case scenario, I'm stuck there but I'll have a large casino/jewelry budget.

I really don't want to sound like a whiner. I knew this was a possibility and in reality I am willing to spend more. I just a thrifty person who loves a deal, loves to gamble and and will continue the quest until all options are exhausted.

Many people consider their cabin a place to shower and sleep. Perhaps your husband is that way. On one of my earliest cruises my TA cousin suggested a GTY. I said "no way, Jose". I reserve my gambing for other arenas.

That being said, you have the right attitude. And you never know. Something magical might happen.

This was the week before the sailing. Someone on the M&G mentioned he was upgraded to a balcony from the obstructed OV cabin, so that was the cabin I got. The funny thing was, he was the moderator of the M&G and so we were getting gifts in the room like chocolate covered strawberries and wine all week.

Call the upscale department. I'm three weeks from cruising and went from an inside cabin to haven't for the same price we paid for inside room.

If I understand correctly, you went from an inside to a Haven for free?

There is always someone who has to burst my bubble. Last week I went from an inside GTY to a large balcony (because there had been a price drop) and thought all my Christmases had come at once. Now I wonder if there is more I could have been offered.:rolleyes:

We booked an oceanview guarantee back in November. Our cruise on the Spirit leaves April 16. We were assigned a porthole view cabin on deck 4 directly across from the medical center. No thanks.

I called this past Thursday (called the upsell number first, they transferred me to the reservations line) and got moved up to deck 5, mid-ship picture window. Kept the UDP and UBP we already had, didn't have to pay anything extra (but didn't get any OBC even though that room was considerably less than what we paid months ago). The woman said as long as rooms are available, they are happy to transfer you.

So I'd try the reservation number first.

Really? This is an unheard of upgrade. I don't know how this is possible. Which ship and what date is your sailing?

Was just about to venture into the world of insides this week with a very very last minute guarantee inside on the Epic at a price so low it would be rude not to take it.

Been checking the edocs every day to watch for the cabin number to appear and today its appeared(3 days to sailaway) Balcony Mini Suite. :D
