LUCINDA574 Posted April 13, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 13, 2016 We are booked on the Empress for May 9th that overnights in Cozumel. Are we able to come and go on the ship at anytime and will dining and other amenities be open while we are in port? tia, this is our first cruise with Royal and with an overnight port. mad-dog74 Posted April 13, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2016 Wondering the same thing for a Bermuda cruise... Can you come and go all hours of the night or do we have a curfew? ;-)
impatientlywaiting Posted April 13, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2016 (edited) We overnighted in San Francisco last September. There was no curfew; you could stay out all night if you wanted. The shops on board were closed - just like in any port. We ate dinner as usual (MTD) and the Windjammer was also open. debshomespun Posted April 13, 2016 #5 Share Posted April 13, 2016 Wondering the same thing for a Bermuda cruise... Can you come and go all hours of the night or do we have a curfew? ;-) We have 3 days in Bermuda, and the ship is just like a Hotel. You can come and go whenever you want. The gangway is open from the time you dock, (24/3) until it is time to leave. You can stay out until 2 or 3 in the morning, or leave the ship at 3 or 4 in the morning, no one cares. Just be sure to be on the ship when it is time to leave. :D
gagirl7143 Posted April 13, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 13, 2016 Works just like a hotel. You can come and go as you please. You check in and out just as usual. All meals are the same as any other day. Sometimes the. Evening show is sometimes replaced with a love and marriage game or in European ports a local folk show as many people are off the ship til late and they save money by doing this. Hope this helps b
cruisegirl1 Posted April 13, 2016 #7 Share Posted April 13, 2016 We did an overnight in Venice (on celebrity) and in Istanbul on RCCL and we could come and go as we pleased. Shops and the casino were closed. On one of the ships, (sorry I simply cannot recall which one ) dinner was open seating at the assigned time. In both cases we arrived back to the ship about 11pm. In Venice we went off again the next day at 7am. The Venice overnight was mid cruise. The Istanbul overnight was the last night of the cruise. Many disembarked then rather than wait to disembark the final morning. Have fun M

spookwife Posted April 13, 2016 #10 Share Posted April 13, 2016 the ship has an open gangway 24/7. the on board hours for the eating venues and bars remains the same for the most part. the shops will be closed as well as the casino. at dinner time on our SF cruise stop the place was EMPTY and everyone was on Fisherman's Wharf chowing down on sourdough bread bowls full of chowder. TBone2K Posted April 13, 2016 #12 Share Posted April 13, 2016 Looks like RC is trying to capitalize on this with multi-day excursions: http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=6936 Has anyone actually ever spent the night away from the ship? (I know it won't make sense to some spending additional $ when your room is already paid for, so no point in saying that again. However there are some who think eating a meal on shore or even specialty dining is a waste as well.)
Desert Cruizers Posted April 13, 2016 #13 Share Posted April 13, 2016 i feel when you overnight in a Port, many want to enjoy the time seeing as much as you can, dining out knowing you don't have to rush back to the ship. We have stayed overnight in Honolulu and will again next August during our Copenhagen TA and one of the Iceland Ports.
voyager70 Posted April 13, 2016 #14 Share Posted April 13, 2016 Why would anyone do this? You are not waiting to disembark, you are enjoying the last day and night of your cruise? We had an overnight in Dubai on the last night of a cruise. Many disembarked on the last night rather than the next morning (after a full day in Dubai) as many of the outbound flights for Europe & North America leave in the wee hours of the morning. Not sure about Istanbul but that may be one of the reasons.
ckfred Posted April 13, 2016 #15 Share Posted April 13, 2016 If you participate in a ship-board activity while docked in an overnight port, the member of the cruise member's staff might kid everyone for not being off the ship. We were in Reykjavik on an overnight docking, and the staff member couldn't believe how many people showed up at 10:30 for trivia. Most everyone had been off the ship for an extended time the day before and just wanted to relax, while a number of passengers were on excursions or shopping downtown. Desert Cruizers Posted April 13, 2016 #16 Share Posted April 13, 2016 (edited) ckfred a year from this August we will overnight in Reykjavik and really looking foward to the stay. Since we will be doing a 6 to 7 hour tour, we will most likely want to relax the rest of the evening then go back into town in the morning for a short time.
