Lakesregion Posted May 5, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 5, 2016 Still extremely vague. Will the Carinthia lounge breakfast and lunch offerings be at an extra charge. Hard to see what could be offered for breakfast that would warrant an extra charge unless they pull all of the fancy items from the regular menu such as lox, smoked finninen haddie etc. And surely the article is incorrect in stating that afternoon tea is to be held in the tiny champagne bar rather than in the Queens room. That would be such a major change not to the liking of the vast majority of the passengers.
Mid-Atlantic Ridge Posted May 5, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 5, 2016 Probably as sloppily written press release, the champagne bar usually hosts the upgraded afternoon tea, at least it still did in December last year. There were some media files with the release that cruise critic didn't include in their piece which start to flesh out a little more around the output from the "development kitchen". See PDF file. There were some media files with the release that cruise critic didn't include in their piece which start to flesh out a little more around the output from the "development kitchen". See PDF file. M-AR Interesting but hardly innovative breakfast selections. I thought there already was a coffee lounge where one could obtain free pastries of the likes of those shown where one had to pay for decent coffee. As for the other items, they are easy to produce for photos but when there are 100 dinners in the queue at Verandah they may not be so easily reproduced in artistic nor taste quality. I shall keep an open mind and most likely an adherence to the Britannia dining room for all of my meals other than a few in the pub. Loved the mashed peas. Toffeegirl68 Posted May 7, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 7, 2016 When the option of offering 'light' food selections / coffee etc in the revamped Winter Garden was brought up at discussion forum I attended last year, I don't recall any mention of it being offered at additional cost. Hopefully it will be a simple, low volume offering - and inclusive.
tv24 Posted May 7, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 7, 2016 Yes, an indeed vague press release, and not very illuminating or helpful.

Now that you mention it in that light I remember on the QE2 that they had a small early morning before the buffet opened area for coffee, pastries, bagels and a few other items so one could start the day earlier than most. tourlink99 Posted May 24, 2016 #8 Share Posted May 24, 2016 I spoke to a friend today regarding an extra charge for food in the Corinthian and he indicated that was not going to happen. This was not a janitor who told me this but some one of substance from cunard..He also told me the spa was getting redone, but not totally like other areas of the ship. Thanks for that report. But just to mention that sometimes it's the janitor that has the inside information - and in my life experience, more often then not a janitor is "some one of substance". tourlink99 Posted May 25, 2016 #10 Share Posted May 25, 2016 Your certainly correct Salacia about janitors having the inside scoop on occasion, But my associate is pretty far up the totem pole. He also told me that the story of the Chart room being removed from Victoria on her refit was not in the plans. Ill be on Mary July 15 and I can report on my thoughts of the refit. I'm hoping for the best. Mark
pepperrn Posted May 25, 2016 #11 Share Posted May 25, 2016 (edited) ... He also told me that the story of the Chart room being removed from Victoria on her refit was not in the plans. ... Hi tourlink99, Actually the Chart Room isn't in, or rather isn't on, the (deck) plans. The current UK brochure shows (from 4th June '17) "Britannia Club" where the Chart Room is currently located on QV. I've read on another thread the same story that you kindly mention above, namely a rumour that the Chart Room is now staying, as Cunard have had a very recent change of heart over the future of this popular bar. The same plans show the QV stern with new cabins added, which begs the question; where are all the occupants of these new cabins going to dine, if not where the Chart Room is now? A puzzled  Edited May 25, 2016 by pepperrn

majortom10 Posted May 25, 2016 #13 Share Posted May 25, 2016 We got off QV on Sunday and was told as brochure deck plan states for 2017 that the back of QV is going to have extra cabins put on back of ship (same as P&O Arcadia-same ship design) and they were going to introduce Britannia Club staterooms and the restaurant is going to be in place of Chart Room. There was a rumour onboard that the Britannia Club restaurant was going to replace Commodore Club but cannot see that happening as was most popular venue for evening drinks on the whole ship and would be a total disaster. Ray66 Posted May 25, 2016 #14 Share Posted May 25, 2016 There are no Britannia Club rooms on the QV for sale in 2017 so presumably this is going to happen at a later date.
cruiseluvva Posted May 25, 2016 #15 Share Posted May 25, 2016 The Commodore announced last week that "we're going to find a space for the Chart Room" suggesting it will be moved to accommodate the Britannia Club.

The deck plans on Cunard's website for period after QV's refurb from June 2017 the Britannia Club staterooms are midships on deck 8 and restaurant is on deck 2 where Chart Room is currently. Cannot see Cunard changing their minds at this late stage and don't know where they would fit in a Chart Room anyone any ideas?
Bell Boy Posted May 25, 2016 #17 Share Posted May 25, 2016 The Commodore announced last week that "we're going to find a space for the Chart Room" suggesting it will be moved to accommodate the Britannia Club. Now that sounds interesting, what other venue could they use ? The only place I can think of a venue that could possibly resemble 'a sort of Chart Room' is, the seating area on the far right side ( starboard) of the Queens Room. Just need to set up a Bar there , although evenings wouldn't be so tranquil here.

suzyed Posted May 25, 2016 #19 Share Posted May 25, 2016 (edited) We were told that the entire "slot machine area" on the QM was going away to make single staterooms! I imagine they will have a smaller "slot" area in the table part of the casino, but it surely looks like it's not going to be as much fun for me since I play slots almost exclusively. :( This refit is sooo needed. I can't tell you how many "holes" or "dips" in the floor there were....all over the ship. Hope they get this problem rectified. On a very positive note....we felt the beds and bedding was heavenly! Very comfortable! Almost like sleeping on a cloud! Edited May 25, 2016 by suzyed

Hi That's interesting My wife and I just got home and we had two lunches in the Golden Lion but she didn't like the mash peas. I think as Brits we are used to the mass produced mushy peas which are much more liquid as such and probably very unhealthy! However other than mashed peas it was virtually faultless. So lucky to have lived onboard for 8 nights.
Thaxted Posted May 27, 2016 #22 Share Posted May 27, 2016 Along with the new dining possibilities on QM2, Cunard is promising an expanded wine list. 46 vintage Ports will be on display in the Carinthia Lounge. https://www.luxurydaily.com/cunard-schools-consumers-in-wine-appreciation-aboard-queen-mary-2/
NSWP Posted May 28, 2016 #23 Share Posted May 28, 2016 I was hoping for some real information. Please don't stir up the Cunarders Mr Gut, they might not let you on QM2 in February !! LOL.
Bell Boy Posted May 28, 2016 #24 Share Posted May 28, 2016 If they make the photo gallery smaller or move it to ? Connexions, could they make the current gallery a Chart Room? That sounds a possibility. Come to think of it, it's quite a big space and a wasted venue just to display photos . Also handy for the Britannia restaurant too. ( pre dinner cocktails) ;)
RobertGraves Posted May 30, 2016 #25 Share Posted May 30, 2016 It sounds a possiblity, but looking at the deck plans closer, the photo gallery is not such a big space to replace the Chart Room. And it's considerably narrower. Perhaps the Midships Bar could be expanded, to include the photo gallery. In this case, the rooms that separate the two spaces should be demolished. This could create a unified space and a (more or less) decent lounge near the Britannia restaurant for pre-dinner drinks. The bar could stay in the middle, serving both the wings of this space. In any case, this could not match the beauty of the current Chart Room. Cunard, leave the Chart Room where it is!
